try downloading google maps app, and the going into it and using offline maps to dl a map of your area.

Try resetting your device then. Also, you can get a forth starter if you don't want any of them...

Then it is, big suprise, a server issue.

I suggest you hold off on trying out the game anyway, because it is currently impossible to track down nearby Pokemon due to what we call the "3 footprint glitch". It's been like this for 5 days straight.
