If you look at the small open flap common to both pictures, you'll see that it resides on the front of the tank, and in the second picture, you'll notice the angle of the barrel proportional to that flap. It APPEARS small because it's facing away. There's a word for this, I forgot it though. Perspective or something. Here's an educational video to help you learn about perspective:
