Asmo is indeed really advanced, and assuming total control of the mech like that definitely requires a direct link with the pilot
Also of interest may be the concept of hybrid piloting. Where a pair of people synchronize their minds (artificially, trying to do it via meditation would be insanely dangerous) and pilot a single mech, usually with only one physically in the mech and the other performing more technical work from outside
The main issue with hybrid piloting is that the two pilots have to share their Favor, which is essentially opening a rift in your mind to share it with another
Following from this, I think now is a good time to explain the relation between planes, dimensions, timeplanes, and realities. In other words, you guys get a history lesson
Imagine, if you will, a piece of paper. This piece of paper is a plane. Another piece of paper is placed parallel to this plane, this is a timeplane. These two types of planes grow in the same direction as time flows. Now duplicate each of these papers instantly, forming a lattice of planes and timeplanes. Each point where plane and timeplane intersect is a reality
Then there's dimensions, which exist outside of reality and thus have no relation to time or plane. Dimensions are largely inaccessible via technology, but can be accessed via the use of "Favor," a metaphysical substance which exists in a specific type of dimension accessible to the human subconscious. These special dimensions are called "personal dimensions" or "dream worlds"
(This next paragraph is entirely speculation and legend. None has been confirmed by science or historians)
At some point in history, the people of the Sphere learned how to harness Favor and use it to fight each other. However, the use of raw Favor proved highly dangerous, and resulted in massive instability. With the Sphere rapidly decaying, these people escaped to another world, Tempest. A set of seven planes on the same timeplane, all of which could serve a purpose for supporting human life. The Spherian people left behind many complex technologies, such as those used for travel, but left little information on Favor itself
Favor fell out of use until around 300 years ago, when it was rediscovered and used to create armaments for self-defense and competition among the mentally disciplined. This way of using Favor more indirectly proved to be much more stable than the Spherian method, and was shortly refined into a proper martial art. 30 years ago a 17-year-old calling himself "the Diviner" invented the Divination system, allowing for much easier manipulation of Favor and granting it widespread usage among the people of Tempest
