  1. Curious, I haven't played Black and White at all, and playing Reborn is like a me returning to the Pokemon franchise after a long long break... ...but did they change how TMs work in B/W so you can use them however many times you want? I actually like how they work in Reborn and think it'd be super better for the main games if using TMs didn't consume them but likely really powerful too...
  2. The way I beat them is, I happen to have a Breloom and Spiritomb in my group at the time. Steelix = Spore > Focus Punch to death. Abra = Hyper Beam? Nah, Curse > Dark Pulse until dead. Technically, Steelix/Abra might not be that easy if you don't just happen to have a tactic to overcome their primary strength. If you make them too complex, it might just be too hard. Without those cheap tricks and if I used one of my earlier basic teams, it might have been tougher. Maybe have people list the ways they beat them and go from there ?
  3. I was kind of scared facing a level 75 Steelix or a level 100 Abra, but they're pretty easy Steelix especially is slow so no worries.
  4. This thread made me catch all 4 Poliwags I encountered in the secret cove while I was grinding up a few levels. I didn't think it was rare though...I guess it's in the same boat as Slakoth in Obsidia Park or Shroomish in Azurine Island. They never show up when you're actually searching for them but when you're just passing through ~POP!~
  5. Another point of advice, the Luvdisc in the lake sometimes carry Heart Scales so steal a dozen of those and swap some of your Pokemon's skills and keep enough on back-up in case you want to swap your skills back. For example, get your Scraggy Chip Away for the battle...
  6. I actually check bulbapedia now to make sure the shiny version of things look good and if so, I'll keep aiming for shiny. But too many shiny pokemon actually look worse than the non-shiny. In the real games though, all shinies are caught! Personally think I like the Reborn direction with shiny pokemon.
  7. It is an interesting topic. Just had no idea people would be so into discussing it. If you know me, I like to read a good internet discussion about a subject I enjoy thinking about (lol do people write books about mangas?). Anyway, I think it's going to take a bit more in-depth explanation as to why Gamefreak chose the type categories and their weaknesses but one has to remember that the ideals of the game hinge on an elaborate game of rock-paper-scissors and because of that, sometimes they just have to draw at straws, like why Fighting is ineffective against bugs (which I also noticed wasn't mentioned in the OP)... So I'll start with 2 types and try and rationalize the choices behind them... Flying Well firstly, with flying, the Pokemon that use it are semi-bolloks. Mainly because only specific creatures can fly in place like every flying pokemon can. It's usually bugs, humming birds and creatures that levitate via magic that can hover in space but every other flying type creature requires high winds or have to literally fly (i.e. in a direction). It's one of the few typings that imply a kind of movement and position...but the game creators were likely drawing at straws when they decided they're super effective against bug types and super defensive against bugs. Not all flying types are birds but that's sort of what it's implying if you're going by that idea. It makes sense, but again, not all flying types are birds and eat bugs (to name a few, Butterfree, Ledyba/Ledian, Drifloon/Drifblim...I doubt Wingull/Pelipper eat bugs even though they are birds...they likely eat fish if they are based on Seagulls). Taking into account all flying types usually being capable of speedy flight, I would actually peg their strength to bugs and grass (both defensively and offensively) is because of their actual movement. What happens when a bug hits a windshield? ~SPLAT~ Since Flying is the only typing that implies the pokemon is capable of great movement by default, it's going to make a bug splat with any of its speedy sky sweeps. Grass is just leaves in the wind (implying that flight often requires wind), making any plant's efforts to 'grow' at a moving target less effective. As for Fighting, my guess would be exactly why fighting is weak to bugs...it's like the ultimate challenge for a martial artist (in the movies). Can you grab that fly out of the air with your fist, Daniel-san? No? Then what makes you think you're going to kick that Pidgeot zipping around 10x faster and at huge distances away!? On to Electric and Rock...I'd peg it on Flying never being faster than the speed of Lightning. Not only that, but flying in open air puts you as a very strikeable target for a lighting bolt with nothing to draw away part of the charge...and if a Rock is capable of being propelled into the air to strike a flying target, it likely required much power...either flying away from the shooter or toward them, if that rock is planning to connect, it's going to hurt. I have no idea why flying is typed as doing less damage to an electric type. It makes no sense to me. Steel is the same way. For ice, it makes sense since the faster you fly, the colder you'll get. And if your wings are frozen, you get more frozen and heavier, ultimately leading to the anti-thesis of flying. For ground, in my opinion, to qualify as ground, the attack is likely connected to the ground somehow. I think skills like Bonemerang are just mis-typed. Bonemerang should be a rock-type skill..or classify it as the only Ground-type move that can hit flying/levitating foes. That Bonemerang is typed as ground makes about as much sense as why it has no effect on a flying foe.
  8. OMG! Thanks you so much!!! Trying to catch a bunch of Farfetch'd is a pain! Unless you can get them down to literally 1HP, it takes 3 Great Balls or 2 Ultra Balls >_> Anyway, caught a Venonat and got a Farfetch'd with a stick on the first try. Thanks a bunch! Now I can stop resetting. Don't suppose there's an easier means of finding a Farfetch'd with its hidden ability, Defiant?
  9. I'm still curious what makes a good EV training spot. For instance, Beedrill is listed for Special Defense EVs but it only buffs Spec def by 1 and Att by 2 and they don't seem very common. But a better spot, to me at least, would be Azurine Island on headbuttable trees. The pokemon encountered are Pineco (+def) and Burmy (+spec def) and occasionally Exeggcute (+def), Yanma (+speed) and Farfetch'd (+att). You'll get a lot more Pineco and Burmy through for both your defenses and just avoid Yanma and Farfetch'd. Would that be considered a good spot? I think the only problem is Burmy use Protect occasionally and Pineco sometimes has Sturdy both requiring using 2 attacks.
  10. Um, they're not rare. Skorupi evolves at level 40. I've been killing them for the 2 Def EVs and to level up lower level team members up.
  11. Alright, I'm finally starting to pool my favorite pokemon and make them the best that I can. What I need now though is a Stick for my Farfetch'd. It doesn't seem like the wild ones ever hold it though as I've caught nearly 2 dozen. Do they still have a chance of carrying it or is the Stick not programmed into the game?
  12. I'm wondering the actual strength of pokemon attacks in relation to humans. At least, in the anime, it shows humans getting hit by electricity, fire, ice, water, even fighting moves and most of the time only feeling pain but still capable of going on. Either pokemon attacks aren't quite as deadly as they look or humans can be as resilient as pokemon. Of course, when you start getting into pokemon of monolithic size compared to a human, they're considerably more deadly.
  13. There are many myths in the Sinnoh region. Below are several from the library in Canalave City and other sources in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Sinnoh Folk Tales (Japanese: シンオウ むかしばなし Sinnoh Folklore) is a book of three folk stories. "Sinnoh Folk Story 1" Pick clean the bones of Pokémon caught in the sea or stream. Thank them for the meals they provide, and pick their bones clean. When the bones are as clean as can be, set them free in the water from which they came. The Pokémon will return, fully fleshed, and it begins anew.
  14. It's widely debated if the world of Pokemon resides on Earth or an Earth-like planet. It certainly takes inspiration from our Earth but there are many hints leading to believe that it is *NOT* Earth. Place names are hardly a solid link. Needless to say, pokemon-world isn't on *OUR* Earth. It has places and background unrelated to Earth that do not exist and vice versa. It could be written off that pokemon-world is Earth but with pokemon, but this is a thread about discussing such topics not really discussed. Even if 'Indian Elephants' exist, what separates them from Pokemon? Or any 'regular' animal that it's safe to eat compared to a Pokemon? And since the lore of Pokemon alludes to the possibility that humans themselves descended from Pokemon, possibly being Pokemon, how do we know such creatures aren't Pokemon? Just because they aren't in the Pokedex yet? And new Pokemon are discovered 'every day' just like in our world, new species are discovered all the time. You might see an alternate species of Mamoswine that resembles more closely an elephant that was once not considered a Pokemon... Haha my point exactly. You posted while I was typing
  15. But does it tell you what that regular food is made of? As for the mention of Indian Elephants, have you ever seen in the game, anime or manga things like regular animals like frogs, dogs, horses or just ambient creatures like birds, cattle or mice that would appear randomly? The mention of the Elephants might likely be a 4th wall mention to us as the player and not the actual playable character, i.e. they're pokedex entries we're reading about the game.
  16. I find it hard to believe there are non-pokemon animals in the pokemon universe. The only ones I'd assume exists are tiny insects. Beyond those, it is mentioned time and time again that humans eat Pokemon. There is even in-game mention that you should pick a pokemon's bones clean so they can be reborn in the Diamond/Pearl games. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Sinnoh_myths EDIT: That said, I'm sure there is food that isn't made of Pokemon. It's obvious since even 'carnivorous' Pokemon eat berries, alluding to the idea that all Pokemon are likely omnivorous and food is prepared that isn't made of meat. That doesn't mean, however, that Pokemon aren't eaten. It'd be a huge waste if a large population of the world's animal population went on not getting eaten...they'd quickly overpopulate the world.
  17. Curious what topics regarding the Pokemon world some people might be interested in that likely will never get attention in the real series. If we're being truthful and realistic, Pokemon are scary beasts! But the anime and games seem to gloss over stuff like that! One topic I think is glossed over is one very important one that links everyone in the Pokemon world! Food. There's already evidence that Pokemon prey on other Pokemon and that a food chain exists. It'd be interesting to see an extensive Pokemon Food Chain of which Pokemon will feed on which and which ones are at the top and bottom. But beyond all of that, one thing that makes me curious is how humans fit in that chain. Do they have hamburgers in the Pokemon world? If so, what are they made of? One of my favorite pokemon, Farfetch'd, has been confirmed as being hunted to near extinction to be made into a tasty dish (why do you think it's my favorite?!). Are the Miltank and Tauros farms also for slaughtering them for beef? I bet a big Staraptor or Pigiot would make a tasty meal for a large family. Or some Stantler or Swasbuck jerky would make a great snack on trips through the wilderness. Would there be salad delicacies from special grass-types? (although it kind of defeats the purpose of being a vegetarian if the pokemon is killed in the process). Anyway, what other topics do you sometimes think about? I'm sure there are plenty and the whole kidnapping of kids is only the easiest to pick out.
  18. Didn't the little lore-test say that it was Shade's idea for Corey to commit suicide? Or was it Shade's idea for Heather to run away? As for naming your Gengar after him, Shade did sort of take the guy's body. Kind of alludes to the idea that Shade didn't just name his pokemon after a recently dead gym leader...maybe he has a means of turning spirits into pokemon. It's an interesting little twist that is ripe to be explored. Considering how dark some of the pokemon's backstories are, it's a shame it's not explore more in the actual game or anime and it's been forever since I read any of the manga...

    About Serra...

I did start out with Infernape and Magmar, but didn't try to sweep (her son was proof enough!). Magmar used Sunny Day then swapped to Ariados just cause. I wanted it to be as memorable as Aya's battle but it left me unfulfilled
  20. I read the bookshelves before I knew there was a need to. It was only after I beat all the trainers and Fern did I realize I couldn't get past the door.
  21. Is Serra just easy? Or did I just try too hard? Technically, she beat me the first two times, but I just reset after the losses because the first loss was more or less to see what level her pokemon were at and the other because I got frustrated when my Infernape's Flame Wheel and Close Combat missed three times in a row and I just wanted to start over before the loss. The first loss was because I was truly interested in the level of her pokemon. I was expecting hers to be level 47-50 but after facing her son (swept nearly his whole team with a level 44 Noctowl with an X-Special and Echoed Voice) to find out he had multiple level 50 pokemon (I think he had 2) which took me off guard...only 2 of my pokemon were over level 45 (Infernape and Flygon at 46). When I tried Serra first, I still had level 40 pokemon so I wasn't expecting to win. My problem is, it felt like the only thing I had to do was grind up levels to win. Granted, it was still close (I like close calls) and I ended with a near dead and confused Magnezone managed to land a Flash Cannon on her Glaceon and a near dead Scrafy finishing it off with a Hi Jump Kick (which I was expecting to miss and kill himself then her fast Glaceon finishing off my Magnezone). Ultimately, I used 2 Hyper Potions, a Max Revive and an X-Special on a team of level 46-47 team with a level 49 Infernape. I don't feel I won with strategy at all, either her pokemon one shot mine or I one-shot hers (my Aridados' only job in the match was one-shotting her Jynx with Sucker Punch who was quickly taken down by her Glaceon). With Aya, I felt somewhat strategic dancing around her types to stop from getting one-shot (had to learn what pokemon had what kind of attacks). For Serra, I felt I probably could have swept the match with a almost-level-50 Infernape with X-Speed to assure I hit her Jynx first. Beyond that, I feel dissatisfied.
  22. Farfetch'd because leekspin... Nah, but Farfetch'd has been one of my favorites for the longest because of his first episode in the anime. Doesn't get much spotlight though, which I don't mind. Infernape is my newer favorite because of his design and was always a fan of the story Journey to the West and all its incarnations...I like the monkey pokemon in general too. Lastly, Flygon has been growing on me more and more. The more I see it, the cuter and cooler it looks to me
  23. Interesting. When I fought Aya, poison was the last thing I ever worried about (none of my pokemon got poisoned) compared to Corey where I just had to give up trying to keep my pokemon healthy.

    Reborn Online

I'd find it more interesting to have a kind of co-op double-battle version of the game where all the challenges are ramped up to account for 2 players doubling against the game. For battling other players, it seems the official game has that covered. This game is about story and I really like that focus. Loving it so far! And the challenge is just the icing.
  25. Seems like 65% of the teams I see posts about...
