You'd think at this point AAA game devs would be able to handle launch traffic. It's far too common for this shit to happen.

I can understand that to an extent, but at the same time; certain games are going to garner a massive playerbase at launch.
I feel like a lot of it is a lack of preparedness. My issue is a dev who has experienced the exact same problem over multiple releases. After a while, I would think they would have measures to prevent server outages.
It isn't like a AAA developer/Publisher lack the funds for preventive measures.

I can understand if it's an indie developer, or someone new to the scene.
I have no issue with that at all, but take a company like Blizzard; or a company like Respawn with backing from EA. It's hard to justify a non-functioning server from them, particularly for multiplayer based games.
