I heard that the only reason IRL El joined the league was so that he could get in contact with Luna and that she was running away from him. And supposedly IRL Serra and Radomus were in fact fighting for her guardianship. If true, than the whole situation is frightening to say the least. The League had some very interesting people in it, it's hard to even believe half of these stories, but they are in fact real.

Interesting would be an understatement :/

So I think that means at least 5 people who became gym leaders (El, Radomus, Serra, Saphira, Sigmund) did so for purposes that had nothing to do with an affinity for Pokemon -- something that they may well have not even possessed given each of their reasons for joining in the first place. After hearing all this, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if IRL Bennett was also involved in that mess. I'm not sure about GG though, because she used to be very vocal on the forums; and I would think that she'd have mentioned it somewhere at least once.

    EDIT: @Farnsworth

Oddly enough, I can't remember running across Radomus or Gardevoir on the server. I suppose that was because my online sessions never coincided with their schedules; or I just saw them so infrequently that I don't remember them at all. Also, I think the season was well underway by the time I began challenging leaders, so it could just be that I didn't have many opportunities to see them online. But if that's what GG's trainer card said, it's most likely true. As for Radomus being her ace... there were a few strange things on the leaders' trainer cards if memory serves, so it's probably just that -- some intentionally strange text. Actually, I'm pretty sure El had two cards, with one of them (as Elias) talking about how he's employed as a butler to Radomus at Vanhanen Castle -- hence why he plays that very role in Episode 10, almost 4 years later. I don't know of any other instances of trainer cards mentioning other leaders by name. Perhaps IRL El did that to feign civility towards Radomus and to give Luna some sense of security? Not too sure. It's weird, just as with GG's card.

I am aware of Reborn's origins in the online league. It's just that much of what happens in Reborn is put in a more dramatic and dark-ish light, but as of lately the game seems to have taken a much darker turn than average. Both the deaths of Corey and Kiki are somewhat parallel to what happened to them in real life, but several minor characters have been killed on-screen, the reason for Amaria's amnesia is a lot darker, and even characters who are still alive IRL have been killed off in-game. In short, the game seems to have taken a hint of Cerberus Syndrome lately.

One loophole for Ame that I can think of is for her to exploit the whole New World thing. She could get away with killing off some major good-aligned characters in brutal fashion if Meteor is successful in creating it -- because if the MC is somehow able to terminate it, that would undo the New World itself, and everything that transpired there by extension. That would bring back all but Corey, Kiki, Ame, Eclipse, etc. Maybe we break it by defeating Lin, and the New World shatters just as Lin did on the screen at Shade's gym so many episodes ago? I could see something like that going down.

The only reason that Amaria survived the fall was because that event was based on something that happened in real life. IRL Amaria actually lost her memories from a car accident. The same is true for both Corey and Kiki, they both died IRL, Corey killed himself and Kiki died from her disease. Of course in-game some of these events are exaggerated or changed to match the story more, but in essence they are still there.

You might not know this but Reborn is based on an online league of the same name that was run on Pokemon Showdown. This league had leaders that were real people and a lot of the events in the Reborn game are based off of their lives. A few that I know of are the legal disputes between El, Radomus and Serra to see who would become Luna's guardian, Sigmund might have used ECT on some of his patients, Cain had a big fight with his mother after she saw him kissing a guy, and of course the events I described in the paragraph above.

I was around for first couple years of the league, though I had only defeated 6 or 7 leaders (I was like 11 lol) before I stopped using Pokemon Online; which was the original domain for PokePlace Reborn and the Reborn league. Though I did make an account, I never engaged much in forum affairs and only knew what I knew through chatting people up on the server. That being said, I never learned the stories of the leaders' real lives until I got lucky and stumbled across this game because I remembered my Reborn days by happenstance one night. I'm also fairly confident that I battled Kiki IRL. Ominous...

I've heard about many of the real-life parallels now (like Terra being nuts in the chat and so forth), but the Luna one is news to me. So I'm guessing she was the only one involved in a custody dispute and that the other leaders were just the vessels for that element of the story? And I didn't know about Sigmund being a doctor IRL; that's really interesting. Now I'm really curious about the twins, the Belrose sisters, and whatever the hell went down with Titania and Florinia.

  4. Wow; I had no idea how popular 4th Gen was among Rebornites! I expected to see a lot of 2nd and 3rd Gen at #1, so this is definitely a surprise to me -- especially since I see so much hate for D/P (not so much Platinum) in other places.

Diamond was my first Pokemon game, but even if it didn't turn out that way, I still believe that Gen IV would've been my favorite. For one, the music was alluring -- that piano though. I mean, we got arguably the two most content-heavy games in the entire series with HG/SS and Explorers of Sky; the latter of which came with arguably the best soundtrack in the series.

That's without even mentioning the wonderful physical/special split which made competitive battling a viable thing, the peak state of the TCG (which I stopped playing a year or so after B/W), the Global Trading System and Nintendo Wi-Fi, or the two Ranger games that dropped in this gen. Ahh.. when I remember my time with Gen IV, it's nothing but smiles.

As for my favorite Pokemon game? It's this one right here. If Explorers of Sky is a 10, then Reborn is a solid 13 in my book.

  5. 1.) Gen IV  (nostalgia; most complete generation)

2.) Gen V  (unique feel; competitive golden age; N)

3.) Gen II  (long postgame; Pokémon brand solidified)

4.) Gen VII  (jury's still out; Sinnoh remakes??)

5.) Gen VI  (megas ruined competitive; cool music; 3D)

6.) Gen III  (felt bland & drab; Battle Frontier)

    7.) Gen I  *gets THISISSPARTA'd by genwunners*

Well Ame could always make it so that Wingull and Pelipper in certain areas won't spawn with drizzle, or at least i think that is possible.

True, but then Ability Capsules are still a thing. That's why Blaziken is so busted in this game, since you're guaranteed to get it before the first gym if you want it.

EDIT: Yeah, what Alex said. Lol

Obviously the Z-Moves in Reborn will have a more simple animation than the ones found in the official games.

No question. But I wouldn't be surprised if they were pushed back an episode if it would significantly add to the release time.

EDIT: I just saw that you said they're being implemented now. Ignore what I just said ^_^

  8. If Gen 7 is in, the Alolan forms are in. There's no way Ame is including Sun & Moon mons without Frostales. I'd say that means the stat and move changes will go in too. I could see the Z-Moves waiting bc of the animation issue, but everything else will probably get thrown in if I had to guess.

  9. @Alistair

Thanks for the long reply! Tbh I was kinda being modest with the inclusion of the Johto Gym track, being that it's already in the game and I wasn't sure how seriously people would take me here. Especially since I was iffy on even using that theme there to begin with 😁

I like the Lake Trio theme a lot better there; nice call.

My thought process with Lin was that Cyrus' theme gives off this feeling of "everyone in the universe is counting on you to win right now!", and it would play on the atmosphere of the situation the MC is in when they meet Lin in battle -- since she is a doomsday-level threat by all means, and especially since she'll almost certainly be the final boss. But I know what you're saying; when I first ran across that ominous Weather Trio remix, I was convinced that there couldn't possibly be a more fitting theme for Lin. I could still see it working, but the dealbreaker for me was that the battle just wouldn't feel as special or important if 15+ Pokemon go on to use her music.

I didn't play OR/AS either haha, I'm just on YouTube too much. That being said, I know it's not ideal, but I don't know what could take its place from what I remember listening to. I'm sure that there must be something, though. I'll go back through Glitch's channel and then I (or someone else in the comments) will get back to you on that.

If Laura is reinstated into the Elite 4 by the time we get that far, and she takes El's place rather than Bennett's (which is my personal theory), I think that El should have a theme distinct from that of the Elite 4. Now that I think about it, it makes a lot of sense for him to have a theme all to himself. He's definitely both significant and 'evil' enough for it -- and I think it would be doing an injustice to El if Sigmund can have a signature theme, but he can't. My headcanon is that we'll face off against El in E17, as I'm ~90% sure that the teaser quote at the end of the episode was actually him speaking to Titania.

And for some reason I just feel like that track isn't grandiose enough for the Elite 4 -- like I think even the in-game gym leader theme sounds better for a big stage. The opening is awesome, but to me it just tails after that.

I guess Rock Climb being post game is confirmed then. :)

Seriously though, I expect it to only be available after the last gym.

Probably, since Hardy would most likely give us the HM and Saphira would enable us to use it outside of battle.

  11. I have a strong inclination that we'll get the Mega Ring at the end of E17. It would only make sense given that in the real-life Reborn League, only the highest two tiers (Elite and Champion tiers) of leaders were able to use Megas. In this case: Adrienn, Ciel, and Titania (Elite); and Amaria, Hardy, and Saphira (Champion). After defeating one tier, you would be able to challenge the next. So yeah, it looks likely for E17 if you ask me -- just my headcanon.

EDIT: I just realized. You see that grass patch on the lower left corner on that room? She must've putted the Mews on that very single patch, blocked off by fences.

    Nice trollin there, Ame.

Good eye. Now nobody will ever have to look under a truck ever again lol. Everything about Byxbysion and everything that happens there is strange; e.g. Mr Bigglesworth, spectral Kiki, the entire Beldum event, etc. And now we have Mew. If we ever get to use Rock Climb in this place, I'm genuinely scared to see what we'll find.

  13. Hey everyone! Ok, so I made a comment on another thread a while back that I wanted to hear some opinions on. Since I never got any responses, I thought I would share my thoughts here. For simplicity's sake, I just copy/pasted the original text.

Here it is, right below the line:

    [Original Post]

I'm not pretending to be any sort of authority on this, but I think I came up with a pretty good system for Legendary battle music. I thought it would be a bit shortsighted to use the same theme for every single Legendary, being that there are so many now and that there is a ton of variety between them all.

Tell me what you guys think:

    Team Galactic Boss Battle Remix:

       * plays for: Arceus (and vs. Lin? I'd like that a lot)

    Hoenn Weather Trio Remix v.II:

       * plays for: Cover Legendaries, Mewtwo, Regigigas

    'Battle- Legendary.mp3':

       * plays for: Mythical Pokemon (as defined in Bulbapedia apart from Arceus and Keldeo), Lati@s, Heatran, Cresselia, Landorus, Zygarde, Necrozma

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire Zinnia Battle Remix:

       * plays for: Legendary Birds, Legendary Beasts, Regi Trio, Lake Guardians, Swords of Justice, Tornadus, Thundurus, Island Guardians

Sun and Moon Team Skull Battle Remix:

       * plays for: Ultra Beasts

EDIT: Glitch's new Lusamine theme would be a really great fit for the Elite 4 imo.

Let's hope with every fiber of our beings that Laura doesn't get Sky Forme Shaymin; if that thing can get proper support in a double battle while on the Flower Garden Field, we might be in for a fight that's a good deal harder than pre-nerf Serra and Charlotte, and I don't even know how that's possible. I wouldn't put it past Ame considering how Nostra is almost definitely a real Jirachi that will eventually be hitting the MC's 'mons up with a 840 BP Doom Desire after STAB. And I don't even want to imagine what Bennett would do with a Genesect...

  14. @Amethyst

I didn't even make this post, but thanks nonetheless! This is super helpful.

While I did check out the guide to PBS files on the Pokemon Essentials wikia, I'm still a bit confused about how determining the encounter rate for wild Pokemon works. I know there are the three numbers at the top of each area, but I don't know how they apply when there are more lines than numbers, as the wikia entry is kinda vague on that. Would anyone care to explain it to me? 😅

The weather isn't 'bugged' it was a design decision and I don't like it.  For now, I think we don't have a recourse other than going back to e15 if we want to get our weather based events.  This is super frustrating for lots of reasons (especially department store stickers that are weather dependent which cannot be gotten after reborn is rebuilt) and I REALLY hope the dev team cranks out a patch real quick that changes the cycle from five days to 8 hours.

Even 36 hours wouldn't be too unbearable imo, but 5 days is definitely excessive.

  16. This is very nice! I made something like this in another thread, where Pokemon holding a certain held item (don't know what it should be called) would be able to set up a field by using the field's Nature Power move. The item would be like a Mega Stone in that only one Pokemon per team can utilize it. So for example, a Breloom using Rock Tomb while holding this item would create a Cave, which would last until terminated. Since that capability could be game-breaking in a lot of circumstances, I added as a caveat that the item will only allow Pokemon to create fields that can actually be terminated (with moves not named Electric, Grassy, and Misty Terrain) -- and something like the Water Surface would also count under this, since you could theoretically use Blizzard followed by EQ to terminate it. Alternatively, one could use a Magnezone (w/ item) to set up the Short-circuit Field by packing Electric Terrain and Discharge; or even (w/o item) use ET, Volt Switch out into a Lapras (w/ item) and use Avalanche to create the Snowy Mountain Field. So basically since the only way to terminate the Snowy Mountain is to use one of the terrain moves first, those would be the only avenue to creating it. Granted, my whole concept is more simplistic than yours (since I thought of it with competitive in mind), but what you have here looks great! I really hope we'll get to see something akin to what either of us proposed in a future release. Crossing my fingers for both :)

Fair point; I liked it because of how dark it sounds.

Right place, wrong info. That is where the book is but it isn't "Radomus's study", it's just a locked room in the sanctum and the book is about Solaris and El.

    Ohhh, ok. Thank you!

I haven't seen or heard anything about a book on Radomus backstory, but there is a hidden book that has backstory of El and Solaris that explains their relationship and how they got to where they are now (in terms of beliefs).

So apparently you have to go back underneath 7th Street for it.
