  1. @Cyczer I think part of it is because of how long it's been since I've played competitive seriously. Last meta I knew by heart was BW2, and I've been off and on ever since. My idea had standard Smogon singles in mind since I don't have the right level of patience for monotype, but yeah, I can see how it would make Ice kinda broken 😁

  2. @Cyczer RIGHT, ICE IS SO MUCH WORSE THAN IT SHOULD BE!!! I love a lot of Ice 'mons and just the concept of Ice-types in general, but they're so imbalanced that it makes me want to cry. They have merits, sure, but they're virtually impossible to use defensively -- unless you're either RestCurseHydration Lapras (which isn't even viable anymore with the Drizzle nerf) or StallRein (but who uses Hail?). Remember how Steel was the type that everyone wanted to be but nobody wanted to have as coverage? Ice is the complete inverse. Everyone wants the coverage, but nothing wants to be an Ice-type. It's so depressing! Here's how I would rebalance Ice:

    • Super-effective against Bug

    • Super-effective against Water

    • Not very effective against Rock

    • Resists Bug

    • Resists Fairy

    Get on it, GameFreak!

@Thiazzi a monorun? Nice! I attempted my first monotype playthrough with Water, but I didn't get too far (just past Florinia) because of how bad my old computer was... hopefully I can start a new one up soon. Frogadier was the only reason I was able to beat Julia lol. Protean Lick made me immune to SonicBoom! As far as Dark 'mons go, I can't remember what's available in exactly what order (except Greninja), but I can give you ideas of what to try using. It's tricky to gauge because the game isn't finished yet, but I'd take looks at Honchkrow/Scrafty/Krookodile (Moxie), Sharpedo (SPEED BOOST), Umbreon, Sableye, and Drapion. I think everything else of use is either too gimmicky, too exclusive, or too late in the game to use.

@Lagspike Chansey is nice but I always found Porygon2 more fun to use for whatever reason. Probably because it's the most annoying of the Eviolite users, with the possible exception of Dusclops. Jesus, that thing was a nightmare to knock out back in the day.

  3. As far as competitive play goes, I lean a bit on the defensive side, so naturally Steel would be among my favorite types. Also, I'm just much better at evasive play and predicting switches than I am at things like hyper offense. That being said, the type I had underrated the most was probably Dark. I noticed myself using Dark Pokemon (i.e. Bisharp, Mandibuzz, Weavile, Sableye, etc.) considerably more often ever since X/Y came out -- which seems odd on its face. You would think that they'd be worse off with the introduction of the Fairy-type, right? (Missing In Action: Hydreigon, Scrafty. Last seen: 2013.) I'd argue that it has been the opposite.

One of the biggest downsides to Dark-types in my mind was that they were generally useless against Steel-types. In the transition from Gen V to Gen VI, Steel lost its resistances to Dark and Ghost. That has probably been the best thing to ever happen to Dark-types, especially since Steels are even more common than in past generations due to the presence of Fairies. So many Pokemon that just weren't offensively versatile enough can now actually put dents in otherwise annoying walls like Heatran, Skarmory, and defensive Scizor. SD Bisharp w/ Sucker Punch became a premier OU threat because it was very tricky to deal with once its checks were KO'ed.

I realized though, that some of these Dark-types were almost every bit as useful in Gen V as they were at the time. Defensive Pokemon like Mandibuzz and Umbreon had gained nothing in the new gen except a new weakness, but I still found room for them and the like on my teams. Hell, Sableye was a giant troll even before it could Mega Evolve.

So I thought to myself: why didn't I see the advantages to these Pokemon before? I don't know. I never thought Dark was a bad type, I just never knew how good it could be all on its own -- and not just because T-tar or Weavile have good secondary STAB typings.

  4. If the Relationship Variables thread is any indication of our post-game character interactions, here are the only relevant people who can still die:

Lin, Solaris, Sirius, Zero, and Aster.

That's not to say that nobody else can die whatsoever. Those deaths just wouldn't be permanent -- which isn't really surprising considering that Anna has Nostra, who is definitely a real Jirachi and therefore capable of granting wishes. Starlight Arena, anyone?

  5. I absolutely love the idea of a competitive format using the field effects, so I'm all for this! The Glitch Field seems like it offers a lot of room for exploration, so I like it additionally for that reason. I posted a topic in the past that a new item or collection of items should be introduced (either in post-game or as exclusively usable in online battles) to enable their holder to create the different fields in certain situations by using certain moves. It/they would be limited to only one holder per team though, just like Mega Stones. I loved the Gen 5 metagame with its weather wars and what not (idk how many people feel the same way xD), so a meta with 34 different 'weathers' is particularly alluring to me.

It's Eclipse. The sidequest is one that involves a story split in E14 content where you say no every time Blake asks for the Ruby Ring.

    Yaaaaaaayy! That's actually very satisfying.

    Spoiler

I was really hoping that we'd have our end-times version of Jessie and James return to help us combat the looming menace that is the New World. Having them reappear in any capacity would make me happy, since I enjoy their characters more than those of some of the gym leaders. But this doesn't do anything to absolve Sirius; he's still my least favorite character. At least Lin has that massive streak of sociopathy and psychopathy associated with her. Reminds me a lot of Sabrina in the anime. With Sirius, there's none of that -- he has no baggage and appears to be completely mentally competent. And unlike Solaris, he doesn't have any burden of responsibility. I'm not even sure how much the revelation of a sad backstory would change my view of him.

The female character is a meteor member we know quite well. I wont elaborate more because it's a pretty involved sidequest and the second sprite is almost a spoiler on its own.

Just to clarify, you're talking about tchar136 and tchar130 respectively?

So I guess we definitely haven't seen the last of Cal, then. As for the other one?

    Spoiler

I really want it to somehow be Eclipse, but I'm pretty sure it isn't possible to be any more dead than she is. She's so dead that even her spirit has phased out of existence, which means channeling her isn't an option. Welp. It could be Tara with that logic, though. The only living candidates that make sense are the Seijaya sisters, but that would mean the Dangan sprites were scrapped. My very first impression was that this could be child Lin, but there's no way that her first in-game appearance would be in a sidequest.... right?? anything is possible in this game at this point

  8. Early Morning Theory

    ---------------------------------------------------

Radomus and Serra are revealed to be the parents of Anna and Noel. Serra and the twins didn't know this because Radomus (w/ assistance from Uxie?) wiped their memories of him and of each other to protect them from Team Meteor. Bennett didn't know about his half-siblings because Serra was rather promiscuous during her modeling days, and she kept their identities a secret from him with the hope that her son would make the right choices in the future if his mother set a proper example. Going back to Team Meteor, they were now seeking Radomus' pendant and blood both. Several years of his actions had finally caught up with him. You see, Radomus (just like Corey) became an agent of Meteor in an effort to impede their progress from within -- he knew exactly what kind of threat they posed to Reborn, and it was for that reason he chose to play white rather than black. At some point, he managed to gain the respect of El, who was the owner of the Amethyst Pendant before him. After they had done some more 'bonding,' El trusted Radomus enough to give him the pendant in a way that mirrored Solaris giving El the Emerald Brooch (the same one that cured his blindness). Radomus would eventually be exposed as a fraud though (possibly by another up-and-coming agent named Lin), and a manhunt began when word of his treachery got out. He was fully aware of how far they'd be willing to go to reclaim their lost key, and he was now on borrowed time. Ever the strategist/pragmatist, Radomus chose the best remaining path available to him. In sequential order: he gathered his family together, had Gardevoir use Hypnosis on them (putting them to sleep), purged all knowledge of one another from their minds, gave Nomos, Nostra, and the pendant to the twins, placed them at the Orphanage's doorstep under the cover of night, and turned Serra (plus any other relatives he had) loose when she woke up the next morning. Team Meteor's only concern is with collecting the four keys, so if they were to locate Serra and ask about Radomus and the pendant -- and when they see how clueless she is about what they're asking -- they would have no cause to threaten any lives. In a move befitting a Chess Grandmaster, Radomus sacrificed his own happiness for the safety of the people of Reborn. Pretty sad tale.

    Side Notes:

1). I know Zina Vanhanen is a thing -- and while that could be a potential hole in this theory, I don't believe her relation to Radomus is ever stated. If she indeed is Radomus' dead wife, this theory would be completely debunked because of what he told Gardevoir about soulmates in his Interview Intermission.

2). Serra says at Voclain Estate, "I'm fairly certain that I've only had one child, and he's right here." The key word here is 'fairly.' If someone had one child, they probably would be more assertive than only being 'fairly certain.' Perhaps her deep subconscience survived the memory wipe and was on display for us in this scene? Also, she said at some point that she gave up modeling for Bennett's sake. Maybe she didn't mean right after his birth, but after she had been relieved of her ties to Radomus and the twins.

3). Although I say that Radomus gave Nomos and Nostra to the twins, it's entirely possible that he didn't know they were real Pokemon like many of us theorize. Anna is a different type of psychic than her father; more perceptive than procedural. Anna is to Radomus as Kiki is to Samson.

4). My initial explanation leaves this hole: who helped Radomus raise Anna and Noel? And to that, I say Serra did. She could have used many of her modeling tours to drop by Vanhanen Castle so she could fit in her share of parenting -- and Bennett would be none the wiser, since he was probably off studying butterflies anyway. I would think that Spinel Town's crime rate is very low, which means that Serra wouldn't have to constantly worry about Bennett's safety.

5). If you find any other holes in this theory, let me know. :)

  9. I have a very strong inclination to believe that battling 'trainer081' will finally mean we get our Magikarp. I mean, an irrelevant trainer giving us that kind of reward for defeating him seems kinda fishy, if you catch my drift. The stolen Magikarp saga is by far the longest sidequest in the game, so it only makes sense for it to conclude with a guy using the trainer tag 'Mastermind' -- presumably mastermind of a Pokemon stealing/selling ring. It would be even more perfect if the existence of this ring is why 7th Street is the way we see it today. We're cleaning up other parts of

the city already, so maybe ousting the mastermind could be how we fix 7th Street? Unless it was already renovated; I haven't actually gone there to check. Am I getting my hopes up too much?

  10. I tried starting up a Water Monotype run on Mac

a little over a month ago. Definitely one of the most enfuriating experiences I've ever had. I defeated Julia at least 5 times. When I say that, I mean the match was over in every sense except for her last Pokemon fainting. All I had to do was hit Electrode with a Quick Attack or Water Pulse from Frogadier. Sometimes it would be the animation for Quick Attack that hung, sometimes the one for Charge, or sometimes something else. There must've been 5 or more hanging script errors when I practically had one foot out the door with my Volt Badge and lost for literally no reason other than the script error. One time, the script actually hung on Electrode's FAINTING ANIMATION.

I stopped using that Mac entirely for a couple of weeks after that ._.

Thankfully we have the Public Release now, which would make things just a bit easier should I continue.

  11. Reborn is tougher and more rugged than any of the main series regions, that much goes without saying. For that exact reason, I like to think that the local Magikarp population went extinct long ago -- just like the various Pokedex entries have said it should be.

  12. So I wonder then, if we'll be able to get more than one Cosmog in-game.

If not, the only way to get both Solgaleo and Lunala to complete the dex would be by trading. definitely not bc Ame loves making us suffer

  13. Really? So the thing about the dead leader must've been from an older Episode. I'll see if I can find a screenshot of that line anywhere. But yeah, it looks to me like Ame is cleverly altering dialogue to set the stage for GG to be a gym leader like she was in Season 1.

And with regards to Anna, she's almost guaranteed to be E4 at this point.

  14. I haven't played that far into my E16-native save file, but I know for a fact that the game mentioned a reserve Fairy leader in E15 -- the dialogue may have just changed a bit. Before, it used to say that the Fairy leader appointed by Ame after xyr disappearance was killed by the PULSE Tangrowth in Jasper.

  15. I'm willing to bet that the remnants of Meteor will manage to open a dimensional hole to allow the UBs through in the postgame. So as far as that goes, I'm envisioning something kinda like Team Galactic's meddling with Heatran in the Gen IV games. And they'll certainly be roaming.

Actually, that raises another question -- what legendaries will roam around Reborn?

I think trchar136 may end up being either Eve or Lumi's sprite. Now that ZEL is no and Zero has his body back to himself again we may end up seeing either one of those two with their own bodies.

    Spoiler

Possibly, but that would mean that Ame decided to scrap the Eve and Lumi sprites from Dagan Reborn.

I'm really hoping that she keeps those ^_^

Those were also in E15. Maybe earlier too. It seems to be overworld sprites for Bennett's second design from the online league, which I'm guessing he'll change to in the future.

Ahh. Then I suppose the others aren't new, either?

    EDIT: @Ice Cream Sand Witch

Sidequest, huh? Seems legit. Would you have any idea what those numbers mean?

  17. This is a screenshot of one of Reborn's PBS files. More specifically, it's the one that outlines the game's trainer tags.

The number at the beginning of each line corresponds to the trainer's .png battle sprite in the Characters folder.

After the series of commas in each line, there is an indicted gender and a seemingly random number.

    Screen Shot 2017-01-01 at 7.42.37 PM.png

I noticed a pattern with trainers who have the number '100.' All of them are either protagonists, characters from the Reborn League, or Meteors.

    ...except for this one.

    I'm very, very confused.

  18. Bennett and Elias might just be confirmed for E17.

I was looking in Reborn's graphics folder for any hidden easter eggs, and I found this telltale overworld sprite:

Whoa, looks like we've got ourselves a badass over here. Holy balls.

Bennett the scrub has been adjusted to actually look intimidating. Well done, Ame.

I found some other interesting (and less relevant) things in my search, too:

    Spoiler

    Cal with black hair??

    Screen Shot 2017-01-01 at 7.28.11 PM.png

This character who I don't recognize for the life of me, but was important enough to receive 2 sprites.

There's one more tidbit that I have to include in a separate post because there's no more space left on this one.

Fern's a hero? Wouldn't Cain suit the case? To be honest, I always thought Fern would have a deadly fate by Lin. After all, he did betrayed Reborn by joining team Meteor.

    Spoiler

I think Fern's past self is exactly the reason why he's such a dick in the MC's timeline -- that he's subconsciously aware of his status as the primary hero in previous iterations of the time loop. That would explain why he calls himself "the cool cat and the top dog" when we first meet him. The fact that the player took from him the glory that should be (and was) his is the subconscious reason why he hates him/her/xem so much. Given that, it seems like Fern is destined to play a hand in the fate of the world (whether for good or bad) no matter what because he has a strong hero complex. Since the MC prevented Fern from emerging as the hero that he normally would in the loop, he simply decided to become a hero for a different cause. Or something along those lines.
