    2 Day, 1 system restore, 3 malware scans, 5 virus scans and a final reboot for good measure later I managed to get my mothers laptop to work again when it wouldn't even boot up past the login screen. Go me.

      complete re-install would have been faster and easier (depending on the OS)

      but then... it depends if there are any important files that need to be saved
