Hello all! My name's Rupe. I didn't make an "introductory" post as it seems a little unnecessary to me, so this is my first real post c:.
I decided to present a team that I have had the most fun using, whilst still being a legitimate team. BL is a very different tier to OU, not as many broken toys, which I believe makes the tier more fun, more original, creative ideas can be made whilst also being viable. I suggest you all try out BL, or at least a lower tier; they might surprise you!
The team I created was originally based around a core of Gothitelle and Heracross. Scarf Moxie Heracross can be an extremely deadly sweeper, please never underestimate him, he is reason for almost every success for this team. On the other hand, he does have some very hard counters, such as Gligar, Claydol, Dusknoir, and many others. This is where Gothitelle comes in. With her ability to trap and OHKO so many pokemon, she made the perfect partner for Heracross, being able to eliminate several key threats to his sweep.
Obviously these two pokemon by themselves weren't nearly enough to break the BL tier, which is where the rest of the team come in...
The Swarm...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gothitelle (F) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [ice]
Gothitelle is just such a beast. With Modest and specs she reaches skyhigh special attack, easily scoring OHKOs on anything weak to her attacks. The EV spread is fairly standard for most special attackers, max speed and max sp. attack, so no explanations needed there. I usually have to play her fairly safely, I don't want any damage on her that isn't necessary. She serves a key role in eliminating threats and does so VERY WELL. She's the chandelure of BL, but much better in her tier than Chandelure is in his. I have no idea why this thing doesn't see more use; it's way too OP.
Heracross (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
Heracross. This guy is my team's namesake, possibly the best scarf user or physical attacker in the BL metagame, and for good reason. Heracross can single handedly sweep unprepared teams from Turn 1 or prepared teams from Turn 50, it makes no difference to him. Close Combat is almost a death sentence, it scores kills on almost all neutral walls, sometimes even 2HKOs on dedicated physical walls. I can only remember a few times where I've ever had to sweep with Megahorn, but the coverage moves are all for predicted switch ins, that's all.
I have to play extremely reservedly with Heracross, he's the main sweeper of the team and I can't allow random status to ruin him. He's very frail, so I don't switch him in much, unless I predict a switch on their part.
Honestly guys, After a single kill this guy seriously fears close to nothing, He's OHKO'd max HP bronzongs from +1 before, and after that, there is seriously no way the opponent can come back against this guy.
Blastoise (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Toxic
- Roar
Although the main force behind the team has already been mentioned, it's time to visit the more back ground pokemon. Despite not scoring many kills themselves, they form a massive part of this team and deserve much more respect. One of such pokemon is Blastoise.
Although his set doesn't seem very interesting at all, it really isn't at all. All he does spin and phaze, not much else.
Sure he gets some nice toxic on bulky walls, but scald is the only real attack he has, the burn chance on scald is very nice.
But on a serious note, Blastoise is incredible at what he does, his bulk is amazing and he's an incredible physical wall. He can roar out any pokemon, dealing damage on a shit tonne of entry-hazards. His bulk also allows him to spin multiple times in a game with ease. This guy needs a lot more usage in lower tiers. Also has amazing synergy with both Qwilfish and Bronzong.
Bronzong @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef | 0 Spd IVs
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake
Bronzong is seriously great. I don't think there is any non-boosted pokemon in the tier that can OHKO him. Looking at you Darmanitan. I'd go as far as saying Bronzong is the best Stealth Rocker in the entire tier, as well as out classing many "OU" pokes at the same time. This guy can out-stall literally anything, as long as they were inflicted with toxic on a switch, or at least don't carry taunt. Bronzong and Blastoise form such a great core together, almost like SkamBliss in OU, they're a duo that work incredibly well together.
His other two moves, Gyro Ball and Earthquake are simply coverage, and to make sure Bronzong isn't complete taunt-bait. Gyro ball allows Bronzong to beat both tornaduses without having to waste a move-slot on HP[ice]. Earthquake is (obviously) just for shit Gyro ball can't hit, primarily other steel types he can't toxic. Bronzong is THE best wall in BL.
Qwilfish (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 48 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Poison Jab
- Taunt
- Waterfall
I had t think long and hard about this position the most. I knew opposing Heracross and Darmanitan could be a huge trouble to this team, and I also needed another form of entry hazards, so my offensive core had less work to do. After browsing the lower tiers I came across this little guy. I remember him from my childhood, never used him ingame or competitively, but I remember having a pokemon card of this little guy and I always wanted to use one.
After looking into him I saw that he fit into the team perfectly. His ability, Intimidate gives me so much of an easier time against ANY physical attacker, and allows me to set up spikes almost every time I switch it in. He's by far the easiest member of the team to use and I don't regret picking him up from the depressingly empty LU scene at all. Taunt acts as a counter-stall and often allows me to set up more layers of spikes.
In the case of him getting taunted, I would use poison jab straight off the bat, I need whatever it is poisoned so it's easier to kill off in the long run. Another option of course it to just kill the taunter with Gothitelle, but just putting it out there.
Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Moonlight
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Ice Beam
The final member of the team is Cresselia. I originally needed something to bulk through strong electric type attacks and she is my answer to that and so much more. A lot of people aren't expecting her, maybe a wish passer or screen setter, but she does her current job so much better than both of those sets put together.
Just to give you an idea of how bulky she is; +2 Outrage Garchomp fails to 2HKO.
With Calm Mind and recover, she is practically a smaller Latias, and works at least just as well in BL as Latias does in OU.
Psyshock is used over Psychic on this one so she has an advantage over casual special walls, this move alone makes her so much of a better mixed attacker than many mixed attackers could hope for. Ice beam is chosen due to the fact that is has no immunities, and can hit the troublesome Tornadus's when i need it.
Some other interesting things about this team:
- Completely shits on all baton pass teams
- Heavy offence teams don't come close to beating its defensive core
- Manual rain teams aren't a problem in the slightest, Cress can wall Specs STAB hurricanes or boosted water attacks for days, and her boosted moonlight(75% > 50%) makes it so much easier.
- Bronzong is a great wall in the current OU metagame, it beats all Excadrill sets 1 v 1 as well as Garchomp, Gliscor, Landorus, Stoutland and almost any other sand abuser you can think of
- The team got a peak of around 1350 on the Reborn server in the OU tier.
- 3 layers of Spikes + neutral SR damage leaves all non flying/levitating full health pokemon at 62% HP, which allows Heracross to easily beat teams
Thank you all for reading and I'll appreciate any or all suggestions to the team, and I'll try to consider them all.
Bye!~
