lorenzofc Posted yesterday at 06:59 AM Share Posted yesterday at 06:59 AM (edited) Hello everyone, I'm excited to announce the release of the Pokémon Reborn Access (PRA) project, a collection of mods designed to significantly enhance the experience for blind and visually impaired players using the "blindstep" password. This project was inspired by the amazing Pokémon Access scripts for the GBA games and aims to bring a similar level of navigation and information access to the rich, complex world of Pokémon Reborn. Features Spoiler The project is modular, so you can choose which features you want to install. Pathfinding Mod (pra-pathfind.rb) This mod provides a powerful suite of tools for navigating maps. • Event Scanner: Cycle through all interactable events on the current map (NPCs, items, connections, etc.) using the J and L keys. Press K to re-announce the currently selected event. • Category Filtering: Narrow your search to find exactly what you're looking for. Use the O and I keys to cycle through filters like All, Connections, NPCs, Items, Merchants, Signs, and Hidden Items. • Pathfinding: Once you've selected a destination, press the P key to get clear, step-by-step directions to it. • Coordinate & Map Info: Press Shift+P to announce the coordinates of your selected event. Press and hold the D key to hear your current coordinates, the map name, and the map ID. • HM Pathfinding: A toggleable system (activated with the H key) that allows the pathfinder to find routes across water using Surf and Waterfall. Accessible Summary Mod (pra-accessible-summary.rb) This mod provides detailed, text-based information about your Pokémon. • Accessible Menus: Adds a new "Accessible Summary" option to the menu for Pokémon in both your Party and the PC. • Detailed Information: Provides two sub-options: "Display BST" (for base stats, types, and abilities) and "Pokemon Details" (for a full breakdown of IVs, EVs, nature, moves, etc.). • Team Export: Includes an option to export your entire party's details to a simple text file ([Your Trainer Name]'s team.txt) in your game folder. Custom Event Naming (Community Project) Spoiler This is where you, the community, can make a huge impact! The pathfinder often announces generic event names like "ev12". This feature allows us to replace those with meaningful names. The mod can read from a file named pra-custom-names.txt to load custom names. We have created a collaborative Google Doc for the community to build a comprehensive naming file for the entire game. • Link to the Community Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OCNpQe4GQEQAycn-1AK4IINBfW09BkNd49YbTn7hiv0/edit?usp=sharing • Guide for Screen Reader Users: For those new to Google Docs, this guide is a fantastic resource: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1J1oXAtwC7h8FpEY52TQWBwthTeAvdSv93RacuxkM0Rs/pub The easiest way to contribute is to use the mod's built-in renaming feature (Shift+K on a selected event). This will automatically generate a perfectly formatted line in your local pra-custom-names.txt file, which you can then copy and paste into the community Google Doc. For full instructions, please see the project's README. Spoiler Installation 1. Download the mod files by going to the latest GitHub page: https://github.com/fclorenzo/pkreborn-acces 2. Find the "Releases" section and click the latest release. 3. Find the "assets" section, and download pra-pathfind.rb and/or pra-accessible-summary.rb. 4. Create a folder named Mods inside your game's patch folder (if it doesn't already exist). 5. Place the downloaded .rb files into the patch/Mods folder. Bug Reports & Feedback Spoiler This is an ongoing project. If you find a bug or have an idea for a new feature, your feedback is invaluable. Please report any issues on our GitHub issues page or discuss them in the #zero-vision-reborn-blindstep channel on the Reborn Discord. Credits This project would not be possible without the foundational work of others in the community. • Torre's Decat — for the accessible Pokémon stats logic. • Malta10 — for the original pathfinding mod implementation. • The Pokémon Access Project — for the inspiration to create a similar tool for Reborn. • Enu — for helping me understand Reborn's codebase. • The blindstep channel on the Reborn Discord — for beta testing, feature suggestions, and valuable feedback. Thank you for your support, and happy gaming! Edited yesterday at 07:01 AM by lorenzofc
