jimmy1212 Posted yesterday at 08:30 PM Share Posted yesterday at 08:30 PM Great game, great story. Overall it's a really unique and nicely done fan game but there's a huge problem, it's difficulty. I know it's meant to be hard but it reaches to a point where enemies are way stronger than you stat wise and on top of that every major fight feels like a competitive battle which means if u have one team you like that can't counter your opponent you simply rely on luck or use a lot of potions and revives. On top of that the field effects almost always benefit the opponents and that combined with their items and abilities they have a huge advantage over you unless you have the team to counter it, and I do not fancy picking meta pokemon with meta set ups or ev train my mons just to beat them and then do the same at the next challenging fight. Might be fun for competitive players but it should have a difficulty option like most hard fan games.
ammonite
Agreed, I wouldn't reccomend Reborn as a fan game without a little bit of competitive know-how. However reborn does have a more customizable difficulty with the password system. There are a few in the Readme file and more that you can find in-game. I think its nice to have a pretty customizable system, but I think it could be said in-game somewhere that passwords are your difficulty+accessibility adjusters and that data chips (needed to enable/disable passwords) be more available from the jump to help people adjust it to their liking sooner rather than later. A lot of them do QoL or fun stuff though. The only easy difficulty password freely given is "litemode" which sets all opposing pokemon to have their minimal stats. Theres also a hidden password called "easymode" which is several passwords in one: Spoiler DISABLES ONLINE sets opposing pokemons' stats to minimum (litemode) makes all your pokemon have 31 ivs (fullivs) < this one specifically disables online functionality. doubles money earned (moneybags) prevents opponents from using items (stopitems) dont confuse with "noitems", which prevents the player from using items. There are a lot more than that though, even for making the game easier. when i forget what passwords there are I check: Reborn 19.5.0 folder > Scripts > Reborn > RebornScripts.rb (around line 389) or Hopefully if you do another round you'll have a less frustrating time! DemICE
you don't realize it the first time, but on the replay you slowly notice how unoptimized every opponent set is, and how abusable most fields are. you don't need "meta mons" just use your TMs. opponents are not statistically superior, in fact if you are close to the cap, a lot of the time they are mostly lower level than you, with an overleveled ace. unless you mean them having proper EV spreads from charlottel onwards. just gonna say in this last update the EV power items have been updated to give massive amounts per kill (+32 i think?) so you can fully EV train a full team in a matter of minutes. Might be fun for competitive players but it should have a difficulty option like most hard fan games. You are intended to switch up your team with a game like this, and utilize mons that you normally wouldn't use. By no means are there a requirement for "Meta mons", and any of these "Meta mons" are likely not even that good until much later on, or at all. (If you're referring to competitive meta). EV training is by no means required, but should absolutely be utilized, as the game has made it much easier to gain EVs. This will make the playthrough much easier as mentioned. And as also mentioned, utilize Passwords to make your playthrough easier. Here's a list of all of them, and their functions https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tL9hV5TyuQ85RSYZ6mGz5-AhD3S72isCYSEk1nwQzNc/edit?usp=sharing
vampirevulpix
Tooting a similar horn: using the fields is vital, especial for major battles. Read up on the field effects (...preferably in the wiki, it's more descriptive than the in-game field nots imo), read up on what gets buffed and what gets debuffed. There's ALWAYS something that can be turned against your opponents and/or support your team. You can also change the field, which usually nerfs your opponents. There is literally no field that SOLELY benefits your opponent without benefitting you. It's always possible to benefit from the field!! So yeah, it's totally possible to do the game without any meta mons. I do gotta admit I did put in easier settings by...iirc Elite 4 or so, but before that it's super manageable.
