If you want, you can do the update yourself by copying over the necessary 15 lines from Scripts\PokemonEncounters.rb.

Ultimately there never was a conclusion to this quest, it was just meant as a trigger to Ana's quest, so try searching for her instead.
Edit: if you've done the part of her quest at the Teila resort then you're done for now, wait for the update.

[Question re: legacy sprites]

They worked fine for me using Alain's legacy sprite on one of my playthroughs, small bugs here and there but nothing a restart or a slightly earlier save couldn't fix (Thankfully so many backups)
