  1. I think this is already strongly implied, but is Adam homosexual? I don't mean this question in an offensive manner, I'm all for more representation being queer myself, and it's nice to see the game's primary romance being between two girls and not forcing the player through romance themselves, as I dislike harem tropes myself. If so,

    Spoiler

are him and Damien (I think that was him?) attracted to one another (edit: again?), or just hanging out?

    (V12 stuff above)

Edit: I'm pretty sure the game outright states both my spoiler and non-spoiler question to be true. I'd forgotten the content of some earlier cutscenes due to not having seen them in a while.

So fun fact, Inuki did a playthrough JUST like that, when we were thinking of putting Ledian's crest earlier.

    There's a reason why it's so late.

The main purpose for them is to make weaker Pokemon actually usable in the end-game anyways. A majority of these from my experience have some decent use earlier on and then fall off(Looking at you my boi Dedenne 😔.) There's one or two that I think could be earlier but the vast majority don't really need that.

After all, Ledian's crest is essentially Hugest Power for punching moves, and it's really easy to get a good moveset on it with tutor changes in V12. It being where it is makes sense to me as it becomes a true glass cannon. Just make sure to EV train it!

Yeah heracross should be obtainable after the fifth badge since you need surf to get to heracross

I wasn't sure when you were able to leave Terajuma Island. Also, to add to the list, Natu has a very useful ability and also learns a few moves that can work rather well with a few of the early gym fields, though I think the teams have been changed to better counter Xatu sweeping over the last couple versions, at least on Intense.

  3. Echoing what others say, Lycanroc, even without being Dusk form (but Midnight is significantly worse), is probably the best pokemon outside of starters when considering the combination of availability, natural learnset (Accelerock, Bite/Crunch, Stealth Rock, Rock Tomb/Rock Slide/Stone Edge all at low levels), as well as Howl for potential early setup), evolution level, and speed. Heracross is amazing for how early and easily accessible it is (unless it was changed, I think you can obtain it with only five or six badges) and will scale into the endgame once Mega Evolution is available. Talonflame is also a classic but dependable choice with reliable priority damage (barring hazards being up), though it suffers before evolution and needs an early game Heart Scale or two to really pick up its best moves. (Flare Blitz is level 1 only, and its first decent flying move is at 44)

    Spoiler

Also, Talonflame has to have some of the weirdest coincidental positive gym matchups in the game. Priority Brave Bird is amazing against Adam, and Flame Charge is great on Narcissa's field.

  4. I started the Pokeball sidequest in Neo Gearen in V12 as I had passed over sidequesting last version, but I got stuck as the location the key to progress further into the factory has no item despite me never having found the key or started the sidequest. If I'm somehow missing the key's actual location, let me know, but it's supposed to be in the room with the 3 locked scientists/workers on the lower left, unless its location was changed?

Edit: My apologies, this has been reported multiple times in the fatal error thread.

  5. Spoiler

What Pokemon have people found that are possible to obtain in V12 that have been unavailable in previous versions? I've finished the version but haven't looked very much and am currently only aware of Skarmory, Gible, and Zygarde 10%, but I imagine there's more in sidequests or dive areas as I have yet to check those. Is there a quick list of good places to dive in?

From what i can tell however, the Torterra Crest i think inversed the Type Matchups for Torterra so what is weak is strong and what is strong is weak

    Spoiler

I suspected that, but apparently Electric immunity remains, so I didn't bother to try more. That makes it less ridiculous, though obviously still quite beneficial for it.

  7. Spoiler

How did everyone fare against the Forgotten Prince? I lacked counters to many of their Pokemon and my team is somewhat unoptimized (Heracross, Magnezone, underleveled Torterra, Skarmory, Serperior, and Talonflame - I bought Magnezone purely to have a second Sturdy mon 😄with mostly scattered EVs), so a lot of the battle came down to constantly reviving my Pokemon and chipping in damage. Their Mega was actually one of their least threatening pokemon for me - Torterra Crest is busted (if what I seemed to infer, it turned all weaknesses into resistances) and I bought grass rather than water/ice coverage so things like Nidoqueen and Gliscor were rough. I don't know if I could have broken through a Poison Heal Gliscor at all. And Excadrill is what it says on the tin. Probably one of the hardest for me yet, but I think someone with better coverage and EVs or a larger rotation could better counter their team. It may have taken one attempt, but many revival herbs, which I don't consider a clean victory, compared to things like easy sweeps (back in V10) of the Puppet Masters with Calm Mind Beheeyem. This is all on Normal. I imagine good old Lando-T is around on Intense if they still put legendaries on Intense teams (V11 removed many of them, but Adam still got one).

The item ball here contained the second Razor Claw I've found in an item ball. Is this just a fake out or was a Razor Fang intended to be here? I was really hoping to get one without having to steal it from a Bruxish, and finding a duplicate Razor Claw in a desert area baffled me. Or was the Razor Claw moved and I found its second location? This isn't a complaint about the availability of Gliscor, as I understand it's extremely powerful, but I don't know why there would be two razor claws in item balls and no razor fangs (at least so far). And if there is a razor fang later in this version, my apologies!

Sorry if this isn't the right forum to put this in, as I wasn't sure if I should have categorized it as troubleshooting or not.

  9. Furret Crest: Either +10 HP, +15 ATK, +15 SPD, +Fur Coat, or +10 HP, +10 S.ATK, +10 SPD, +Special Huge Power

Either a thematic way to improve its bulk, or a way to take advantage of its incredible special movepool. A base SATK increase may be overkill for the latter when taking into account EV training, however.

anyone know why bennett round 1's venomoth is able to outspeed my timid alakazam? alakazam is clocked in at 189 speed (no choice scarf) and yet when checking s venomoth at lvl 51 should only have 158 speed (checked both with timid and max speed EVs just to make sure) and mirror field doesnt say anything about providing speed boosts ani didnt notice any changes to either of the aforementioned's base stat totals  and as such it really me baffled

also note alakazam is by far the fastest thing i have atm

I haven't played this battle to confirm, but whenever an "impossible" speed situation occurs, it's almost always due to a choice scarf. Unless Venomoth was able to switch moves...

  11. I'd honestly go so far as to call Incineroar 2nd best. Intimidate, high bulk, good offensive moves (fire-type damage struggles until the 50s, though), fair Trick Room synergy (esp. if re-natured to Brave), decent type, Intimidate, Bulk Up via relearner, decent TM movepool (not many early TMs though), Intimidate...

Seriously, though, Intimidate on a decently bulky pokemon is insane in a game where double battles are common and difficult enough that you need to keep doubles strats in mind for your team. Infernape is probably the best fire starter at fast and strong immediate damage, Blaziken is Blaziken, and Typhlosion probably has the highest raw damage of all of them, but Incineroar is an excellent all-rounder pick.

Also re: Feraligatr: I agree that Feraligatr has problems with good STAB moves and its best moveset either requiring heavy breeding (and being lucky enough to get Axew from the mystery egg if you want DDance especially early), mods that let you re-learn egg moves (which one could understandably consider cheating), or later-game Move Tutor access, but it still gets Sheer Force Crunch and Ice Fang pretty early and has a solid typing and bulk. Swampert, Primarina, and Greninja are all arguably better (Blastoise is OK, but the opportunity cost of not taking it is low due to it being one of the first-available starters, same with Empoleon, and Samurott sucks eggs), but it's not as terrible early as other late bloomer starters like Serperior.

  12. I think it's from an old version that gave it as a mystery gift as an oversight. The only possible way to obtain one now is through debug, it and any other (non-Phione) legendary is unavailable and presumably will be until after the main story of the game is complete.

  13. I had decided to replay V11 as well as on Intense for the first time, wanting to see what'd been changed earlier in the game. After finding out the shop selling Apophyll Pancakes had the item removed and placed in Teila Resort (understandable for how powerful alolan Raichu is when you get it pre-3rd gym, especially against Marianette and Valarie), I had to bench my Pikachu. Which available Electric types up to her will work best? I'm mostly looking for Pokemon that won't die in one hit to field-boosted moves and have an actual decent Electric move that works with their base stats by level 40. My current thought is Pom-Pom Oricorio (doesn't touch the water so it also won't be slowed, and learns Revelation Dance just in time, though will be useless before Valarie). Also, with the TM moved, will Nature Power Cacturne be a good strategy for Narcissa? Currently I'm still just starting the Marianette section, but I'm significantly more concerned about Narcissa and Valarie. (Crawli I'll hopefully be able to work with type advantages to deal with or, at best, a weather changing move, for Marianette I have fighting types and Xatu, though I wouldn't be surprised if she got a counter to Xatu cheese as well like Keta 2 did)

As a side note, props on making Keta 2's fight not as easy to stomp with Xatu as it was before. You can still do it (you need to deal with Ninetales first), but it's not just "spam ominous wind on a passive mon until you get lucky". ...Though that's still the only way I was able to figure out the fight.

  14. It's all subjective based on your team, but Terra was harder than Charlotte for me (took a few tries with a rain dance prankster sableye for Charlotte to keep the field cool, even if it does cause a rainbow at the end which is a bit cheesy, while Terra disrupted my team strategy and I had almost no answer for multiple of her Pokemon), and Ciel was extremely vulnerable to a Feraligatr sweep (and likely to many other sweepers that use "dance" moves that aren't threatened by an unboosted Togekiss). With the amount of bonuses her Altaria gets, if you have no answer for that, I guess you'll have some issues.

  15. I didn't fish for IVs and didn't EV train at all during the game, though my Pokemon did have the luxury of me using the egg move relearner mod (and multiplying experience to expedite training team members - possibly considered cheating, but level caps keep it from breaking the game and I didn't do it until I was stuck) - though I think most of my learned moves could have been gotten legitimately, even my Dragon Dance Ice Punch Feraligatr, as Axew was my mystery egg from the police 😄 Natures were optimized once I got to 7th street, however. Exactly one X item (an X Defend on my Goodra to beat Hardy on my first attempt instead of wiping) in the game, though piles of hyper, ultra, full restores, and revival herbs. EV training certainly helps, though I would be fine with average IVs if I was soft resetting or breeding.

  16. As of V11 I have been able to find both a Razor Claw and the newly available Gligar. As those two things are currently accessible, is the Razor Fang also hidden somewhere or currently unavailable - on an alternative note, is an Eviolite currently obtainable? I've already finished V11, so it's possible I'll be able to find these things in V12 as well.

  17. I'll try that out, thanks! While I doubt the intent of this mod is a Pokemon balance overhaul, it would also be cool to eventually also see a few Pokemon with horrific learnsets (looking at you, Unfezant and your pure special learnpool for a physical attacker) get some touchups in the future, even if it's one or two highly desirable moves. (like Unfezant learning Acrobatics in the mid-late 30s; Shelly is so much of a monster in battle in regular Reborn I don't feel bad introducing another counter to her in a difficulty increasing mod)

This is a more demanding and out-there suggestion, but something that allowed more access to the lower-end Megas earlier would be fun (I doubt many people, when they finally got the Mega-Z ring, went, "Now I can finally use my Audinite!", unless it was their favorite Pokemon) without breaking the game with the mega stones and Z crystals you find before the ring is obtainable, but that would require moving a lot of items and possibly changing events. (If you were to get something different for the Mega Ring quest, I would place a mid-high tier mega stone there, sort of like how the Magic Square puzzle rewards you for its extreme difficulty with a good mega stone and top-tier TM.)

  18. Either due to my file unpacker (7zip), my internet corrupting the files, or the website, but I've tried downloading this a few times and each time the archive has failed with 7zip telling me it's failed to open as an archive. Am I missing something stupid or obvious?

As for the changes I've read about, aside from the obvious difficulty part of the mod, I like the look of them and most of them I think would be great changes for the actual game in terms of availability even if it's potentially at the cost of other Pokemon being moved to later in the game. Especially Gligar being added to the Mystery Egg (ignoring the bias of it being one of my top 3 favorite Pokemon, it makes a good match with Sneasel). I always felt that badge 7-8 was a better place for a guaranteed Gligar (I saw an idea of it replacing Trapinch as the trade in Chrysolia, which I would support after Flygon became in-game god tier in Gen 7) as opposed to 12 or 13 (can't recall) where it currently is. I was always a fan of the middle or first evolutions that are given the spotlight in Reborn due to their evolutions coming significantly later, and Gligar would be an excellent candidate for that. (the razor fang is absolutely fine where it is, since even without Earthquake Gliscor is a defensive setup monster)

The only one I would be concerned about balance wise is Ralts, and that's exclusively because of learning Calm Mind by level up. I don't know if removing moves from learnsets, or at least moving it to the 70+ range is something you want to do, but it would make it a safer option for early availability without harming Gallade who was hit hard with the Ralts pushback. The TM changes also look good to me, Sludge Bomb being completely unavailable in E18 baffles me. The only reason I can see it is to keep Budew in check... which does make sense :D (Speaking of, memes aside, Budew is a pokemon that I think could be moved forward and replaced with something else, like Cacnea or Fomantis. Even without great poison STAB Roserade is available super early for a Gen 4 evo and is by no means underused or unpopular - unless it was moved in E18 and I somehow missed it), the "pivot" moves aren't as great outside competitive unless you're on Set or in Doubles (though are definitely still late game stuff), and Shadow Ball, while very strong, doesn't feel worth the effort of -every- starter egg. Everything else that's unavailable has a pretty good reason, though I think the "big" elemental moevs currently in the penthouse could be safe to place in the desert section onwards, at least Blizzard and Thunder, as they encourage build-arounds or interesting ability interactions like Compoundeyes Thunder Galvantula.

Is this Scyther item exclusive to Scyther as a replacement for Metal Coat, allowing Scyther to be available earlier without pushing the metal coat so far forward it makes Steelix worthless outside of potentially its Mega? That'd be quite cool, Scyther would be a fun midgame choice against stuff like Radomus, Luna, and Samson, and probably stays viable until Scizor thanks to Swords Dance. (Is it possible to make a Probopass-only evolution area/item or make it a rare spawn somewhere (kind of like the way you viably use A.Sandslash ingame) so it isn't thrown out with the bathwater with Vikavolt and Magnezone, too? Definitely not a mon that deserves to be that late in the game.)

tl;dr: looks good, but the file is busted for me, will check out the team changes if/when I'm able!
