You gonna enjoy the Goomink quest fight with Kawabunga or whatever was this whale's name. I swear this thing got like 999 HP EV and infinite Dive + Rest. In a moment of brilliance, as a thought, i tried to Skill Swap Insomnia to him, to only be met with "denied, smartass". Only double Memento + Knock Off full Grass team with Water Absorbs and Nasty Plot Cacturne with his crits carried me through this nightmare.

I agree with how painful this fight is, i get that boss pokemon get infinite pp but for the love of god don't put rest on such a bulky pokemon.

It was just like "Ohh you manage to get rid of my shield, tank my atk and chip away my HP to red, good job now i'm about to use this one move that will render your effort useless and make you question your sanity" it was like a spit in my face man.

and this is also another example where field is abused very unfairly, the most threatening move that oversized whale has is  Dive + Water field boost,  now you would think that the best move is too change it too frozen field and change it to Mountain so it will lose its damage advantage, but noo after you change it to frozen field that whale can just use dive and change it back then it will get the field boost damage , then i try to paralyze it so that it cant dive when in frozen field, but lo and behold it has water veil so yeah it you are basically just wasting your time if you try to abuse the field

The only way i manage to win is to intimidate switch and clutch crit on Venusaur with +6 atk by growth

    Strategy#2 - Set up a Trick Room
You wish.. I thought since she was pretty speedy than even my speediest Pokemons that a Trick Room would, well, do the trick but, once again, the field does not allow it so.. That was 2 hours of my life leveling Pokemons for this strategy I will never get back..

But Trick room IS doable thats how i beat her in intense after all, Trick room will only last 5 turn but at that point you will be faster than her (Except if you have mon that is faster than her or you screw up and paralyze her ), hard thing is to find Sweeper with enough bulk to tank at least one hit but still does enough damage to 1 shot its shield, granted its not an easy fight and RNG screw me many times over but Trick Room cheese is how i did it.

The buggy one is fairy field in this fight as it SHOULD block all status move but somehow she can still land her lovely kiss -_-

  3. I feel like this is one of the hardest fight in this game, you need really build up your team to deal with this guy, status move is useless in this fight cause kawopudunga has water veil, Aqua ring +Leftovers+ Rest makes it so tanky and it has infinite pp so stalling is useless not to mention dive is so broken in these field

The only viable way is to debuff it and slowly buff up your pokemon

My Team when i beat kawopudunga:

    Venusaur (Chlorophyll) (Black Sludge)

    - Move: Growth, Petal Dance, Sludge Bomb, Leech Seed

    Luxray (Intimidate) (Sitrus Berry)

    - Move: Baby Doll eyes, Discharge, Electric Terrain Crunch

    Arcanine (Intimidate)

    - Moves: Wild Charge, Will o wisp, Flare Blitz, Close Combat

    Meowstick(Prankster)

    - Move: Light Screen, Reflect, Psychic, Fake Out

    Magnezone (Sturdy) (Magnet)

    - Move: Thunder, Flash Cannon, Screech, Metal Sound

    Blastoise (Torrent)

    - Move: Hydro Pump, Flash Cannon, dark Pulse, Aura Sphere

    Strategy:

The Main Strategy is to cripple kawopudunga atk, and def as much as possible the set up using a sweeper, i use growth Venusaur with max investment to HP EV and Mix Atk and Def EV for this.

Lead with Meowstick in order to set up Reflect, it will use dive and kill it but is okay, switch in to Arcanine it will intimidate(-1), then immediately switch to Luxray now it will also intimidate(-2), now it will atk but wouldn't kill, then switch back to Arcanine and intimidate will active(-3), Arcanine should be able to live with little hp now use wild charge to chip in his shield, kawopudunga will kill Arcanice, then switch back to Luxray and intimidate will active(-4), then use Baby Doll eyes(-5) now if you're lucky Luxray will survive with little hp so you can Baby Doll Eyes once again(-6), then switch to Magnezone and depends on your sweeper either set Screech or Metal sound (i use screech cuz my Venusaur is physical) at this point Magnezone can live through 2 hits so either use another Screech/Metal sound or try to break its shield. then switch to Venusaur, now cuz Venusaur is more bulky and resist kawopudunga  stab it will proceed to target Goomink, now this is the best scenario cuz goomink has great defense and access to Rest so it can effectively tank its atk, now use this chance to buff up Venusaur using growth it should be easy after the +4, and Petal dance it to death

The key here is to have a screen setter and at least 2 pokemon with intimidate and switch it back and forth to chip away its atk  then sweep by stacking your own atk, if you have better alternative by all means use it, i only use this team cuz im to lazy to train another pokemon

Not a super big brain strategy but hey it works for me

Yeah, i swapped between Intense and Normal for experiment sake, and tried around 200 fights with several leaders on both difficulties. On Intense paralysis and confusion almost never proc on enemy NPCs, they crit much more often and their moves barely miss, even when its a low accuracy move and field doesnt boost its accuracy. And yes, several trainers in particular make their decision after you pick a move or next pokemon, Melia especially. Im sure some smartass will come and say "hurr durr it's just RNG", but ive done thousands of attempts across a lot of hours in 13.02 and it's very clearly an immensely different experience between Intense and Normal.

Same tested it with Venus (The girl with crested ledian fight in zone zero), somehow her Taurus ALWAYS landed iron tail, tested it about 30 times and never miss once. Have checked the field and there are no mentions that iron tail is boosted in any way, kinda weird tbh

  5. at least get yourself a full team first, i don't know what mode you're playing on, but keta should have Lucario, HAriyama, Breelom, Throh, most of them knows rock tomb/rock slide so everyone of your team except combusken almost risked to be 1 shot, my suggestion is to invest in speed and hp ev and try to tank those hits and chip away, also use litleo to noble roar and try to minimize damage as much as you can, if your combusken is female, you can try to breed it and get a second or third combusken, which will help

  6. For sweeper i usually go with Sword Dance+ Bullet Punch Scizor and Toxic + Merciless Def build Milotic.

If the opponent is too bulky or counter my team hard my Destiny Bond Gengar is ready to take one for the team.

Intimidate Arcanine with will o wips to Cripple Physical Attacker

But my must have when boss fight is Ribombee, its montrous speed manage to sweep or at least deal enough damage for a revenge killer to finish the job, not to mention it can set Sticky Web which saved me countless time

  7. I agree that this battle is really hard but its certainly doable, and yes Misty Terrain is likely bugged so gotta pray to RNG god for that lovely kiss to miss or just get a chesto berry

Granted i did this battle with my mono steel team when i first fight it so it might be harder on other teams cus mine is easier in terms of dealing damage, but i will share the strategy

    This is My Team:

    Excavalier (Shell Armor) (Magical Seed)

Move: Iron Head, Sword Dance, X scissors, Iron Defense

    Durant (Hustle) (Magical Seed)

Move: Iron Head, X Scissors, Slash and Burn, T Wave

    Magnezone (Sturdy) (Chesto Berry)

Move: Flash Cannon, T wave, Discharce, Double Team

    Togedemaru (Sturdy) (Chesto Berry)

Move: Zing-Zap, Iron Head, Spiky Shield, electric terrain

    A-Dugtrio (Sand Force) (Muscle Band)

Move: Iron Head, Dig, EQ, Sucker Punch

    Bastiodon (Sturdy) (Chesto Berry)

Move: Taunt, Heavy Slam, Rock Slide, Metal Burst

    Note:

    - The AI will ALWAYS use Lovely Kiss on Sturdy pokemon, but when you held a berry she will switch tactics and immediately attacks so give your sturdy pokemon a Chesto Berry so that you can eat those hits, the shop in the city sells Sitrus and Chesto berries so you can get it there

    - Magical Seed will activate Trick Room for 5 turns (8 if your lucky) so your pokemon will always be faster than gardevoir, give it to them asap

    - She have a freakin 6 free shield, so most of your pokemon need to deal enough damage to 1 shot her shield or you can forget about killing it

Strategy:  Basically use the seed to set up wonder room and just chip it away until its dead. I lead with seeded Excavalier, wonder room makes it move first and mine is sp ded build so Gardevoir need 2 hits to bring it down, which give me enough hit to kill 2 of its shield. then came Magnezone cuz i'm holding chesto berry it will not use lovely kiss and atk it instead, which is enough to deal 2 hits till it dies, then i repeat using Togedemaru and by now i effectively remove all her shield, but now Wonder room will end, so you need send out one more seeded pokemon, and just repeat the above strategy till its dead

The hardest part is to find pokemon that can remove gardevoir shield in 1 hit which not many can do considering Fairy is nerfed hard on this field, alternatively you can put it to sleep but beware because she also holds Lum berry so your sleep setter need to survive 1 hit to get the job done, Paralyzed it is also an option but its too RNG heavy

Is there a way to obtain Chinchou/Lantern for the

      Hide contents

    Aquarium quest?

I know it was obtainable as a shadow pokemon in V12 but I seem to have missed that one and as far as i know there is no way to retry catching them. Would really be a shame if I'm locked out of a very good reward because of an old mechanic that is used erratically at best...

You can get Lanturn in Terajuma Diving spots, in the grass

  9. 1. Not sure if its bug or just Rng, but when you fight Venus in the Big Top field (the girl with Ledian Crest) her Tauros always succesfuly hit iron tail with 100% accuracy, there is no indication in the field that boosted this particular move in the field guide. Have tested this at least 30 times, but she never missed once.

    2. Saki's M Metagross somehow maanage to outspeed  my Max speed IV/EV timid Gengar.

    3. in 3rd Layer, near the bridge with the gyarados there is a small rock climb area, some tile here can be used to surf .

  10. I never really rant about battle difficulty but i just need to let out some of this frustration, so yeah Saki is one of the biggest problem in this ver, as some the comment above me has said, Saki's battle is a tad unfair, it has too much advantage and too little weakness to exploit

    Her team Advantages:

    1. Glitch Field remove Physical and Special atk split and use gen 1 damage calculation on sp atk and sp def.

    - This makes her already bulky mon got more CHUNK and Hit hard, not too much of an issue cuz both of us can take advantage of this

    2. Seed that makes it typeless and increase sp def and def.  Personally i think that this is not a huge problem, typeless mon is nothing new as it has introduced in reborn (Terra's Quaqsire) as long as you hit hard enough it will fall

    3. Saki exclusive Attack THE U.M.D.

    - This is where I'm beginning to raise my eyebrow, im not going to complain too much if its just reduce 1 stat, but it actually reduce 2 and i dont know how it works but depend on the pkmn it either reduce ATK and SP ATK  or DEF and SP DEF this absolutely DESTROYS set up  and deal crazy amount of damage, it would be much better if its just reduce 1 specific stats, really hard to get around but not impossible

    4. Auto Wonder room.

    - AND This is where things go Bonkers, this 1 extra move make all of her pkmn into absolute beast that can absorb damage and dish out much stronger atk, this set up cause her Aggron to 2 shot my defensive build Magnezone before i can do anything, it best just to get rid of this entirely as the only counter play is to use our own Wonder room to cancel it out, we need to sacrifice 1 pkmn and 1 of our turn for it, really unfair tbh, if you must put it in then at least teach it to Bronzong, don't make it auto prompt.

    5. Bug or illegal Metagross?

    - Not sure why but her M Metagross always move first, its even faster than my Max speed IV/EV timid Gengar lol Scratch this, did a double check turns out her M Metagross is lv 90 with max speed investment and Speed Nature, so it will always faster than my Gengar

    Her team Weakness

    1. Most of her team is Slow (except for Metagross lol).

    - i think this is the actual way to beat her, her team is slow so we are supposed to do some set ups to balance things out BUT how can we do some set up WHEN HER PKMN ALMOST ALWAYS ONE SHOT AND REDUCE THOSE VERY STATS THAT WE TRYING TO SET UP

    2. Not immune to burn

    - U.M.D is a physical move so burning is the way to go, the only problem is Wonder room+Glitch Field makes her SP Stats Sky high so it barely even matters

    Counter Play problem:

Unlike other battle where we can create a situation to do counter play or utilize other strategy to bypass opponents niche, this fight basically force you to bring your own wonder room to even have a fighting chance, the only viable strategy i can think of is  Destiny Bond + Revive scum but this only in casual and easy or Seeded + Hone claw shedninja.

All in all this fight basically restrict strategy play which actually makes pokemon fun, personally i'm very frustrated when doing this battle. sorry to say but the balancing is all over the place in this particular fight

Btw, how in the world Mega-Metagross is faster than Talonflame with normal moves? Moreover with the gale wings ability. Don't see anything in wonder guard or in glitch field that justifies that...

Some of the pokemon in intense has illegal Ev and Base Stat, i guess this is what happens, it was the same for me cuz somehow her metagross outspeed my Timid Max IV/EV Gengar

  12. Lead with meganium to deal with cincinno, put a reflect and just Giga Drain, try to stall her houndoom by sacrificing your already weak mon, usually it always start with Sunny Day so its ability Solar Power with damage it every turn and it will be enough for megalax to 1 shot it while tanking 1 hit. Her most dangerous pkmn is Crobat it is super bulky and fast, if she switches to it, deal with it as fast as you can

TBHi really hate melia's Togekiss, why the hell didn't she teach it Air slash and Dazzling Gleam, its STAB for god sake, honestly there many instances that having these move will make the battle so much doable, her ace is just a liability

  13. i think your best bet is to use Sandslash, give it magical seed to get the king shield and atk buff and do a sword dance on that turn, then just EQ.

Big Chance Melia will switch to her Togekiss when  that happen so you want to use Rock Slide instead of EQ,  maybe reset a few times to get the timing right
