I assumed you knew of it as you knew of 'Gymnasium', but it means a person who enrolls in either subjects they've never had, subjects from (ex) high school that they'd like to improve or simply people who doesn't have a solid diploma. So let's say I'd want to be a type of engineer that requires more advanced math like R1\R2 but I don't have those subjects from high school, then I'd have to take up those subjects that I lack in a private matter

I've actually heard of the concept before, just never under that name, as people in Denmark just refer to it as taking additional classes.
