  1. I always liked mods that tried to be consistent with the lore. (Okay, I also liked mods that weren't consistent with the lore, but I like the lore-friendly ones better.) But since I haven't played Skyrim in a million years, I can't think of much. I can't remember what it was called, but there was a mod I enjoyed that added a hypothermia sort of mechanic, in which you have to manage your temperature. So you'd have to wear warm clothing when going to cold snowy areas, getting too cold has negative status effects, and you can also set up camps anywhere with a little campfire to stave off the cold for a time. It wasn't too intrusive, for the most part, but it added a little layer of planning that I appreciated. There was another one that just gives you lanterns that are portable light sources. Very, very useful. Maybe I should play Skyrim again so I can get a better sense for what mods are good...
  2. Hey, go for it! Comp sci is a tough but satisfying discipline if it's something you're into, I think. I'll have to check out the Showdown server, I suppose, if that's where people are. I was probably going to inquire eventually whether there was some community IRC channel or something of the sort, so I suppose that answers my question.
  3. Oh, PS2! If it were me I'd have both a PS3 and a PS2 (as it is I just have a PS2). There's something satisfying about having the games physically and being able to pop them in and boot up the real console. If you want good games on PS2, there are the Tony Hawk games, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Phantom Brave, Disgaea, God of War, Katamari Damacy, a number of Final Fantasy games, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, SSX3, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank... Kingdom Hearts and Resident Evil 4 are supposed to be good too. Relatedly, you can play PS1 games on a physical PS2. In emulatorland you'll need a separate emulator for it, but PS1 games are also worth considering here: you get Final Fantasy 7, a number of the best-known Castlevanias, Colin McRae Rally (if you liked DiRT, this is the first game in that series), Spyro, Crash...
  4. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening! Good time-agnostic meeting event! I'm Kasran. (Kas is acceptable. Kassy is less acceptable. Kasamatazz, Kasarang, Kasper the Friendly Fox, et al. are right out.) I saw someone in one of my classes this semester playing some rad-looking Pokémon fangame, and upon inquiring I was told it was called "Pokémon Reborn". So, I went to go check it out, and now here I am! It took me a couple weeks to get around to registering here, and I still haven't... uh, actually played Reborn yet... you know, college responsibilities and all. But the community seemed friendly enough that I figured I should come and hang out. There isn't too much special about me. I'm some college nerd who's studying computer science, with an interest in systems programming. My main passion is video game development, though I've never actually made anything yet; I'm also interested in retrocomputing, music, worldbuilding, writing, logic, linguistics, conlangs, math, puzzles, and just a hair of philosophy and some other stuff. My favorite Pokémon is Typhlosion. Rayquaza is a close second. Fight me. (Don't actually fight me. I don't know anything about competitive battling.) It's good to meet you all! Hopefully I'll be able to sink my teeth into this community, as it were, and make a decent contribution.
