In my opinion, Akito wasn't garbage at all. While the story may have been a little messy, I liked seeing a different perspective on the war and I really liked the main characters.

I mean it was implied he's now immortal, so that I expected too.

Since it's made apparently by the same team (?) my expectations are pretty high.

Oh wow they're really going for it?

Hell, Akito the Exiled was pushing it.
