  1. TYRANT

    Spoiler
    • Blaziken @ Speed Boost
    • Item: Scope Lens
    • 5 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
    • High Jump Kick, Blaze Kick, Shadow Claw, Protect

My starter, with me until the very end! Aside from priority moves and choiced 'mon, one protected Speed Boost usually let him outspeed a good portion of 'mons, so I just gave him coverage moves and let him wreck house whenever. That being said, he is one of the more frail of the team, so

    AFFIRMATIVE

    Spoiler
    • Aggron @ Sturdy
    • Item: Stone Plate
    • 5 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
    • Bulldoze, Metal Burst, Iron Tail, Stone Edge

My good girl tank who let me get some heals in while she was holding the fort. Not only that, but Sturdy-Metal Burst was a lifesaver in a few battles, and I'm not going to say I abused it, but, well, when I was backed into a corner (which was more often than I care to admit)......yeah. Aside from that though, she hit like a truck beyond that, and her usual cause of death wasn't an enemy attack but rather chip damage (which was, more often than not, Valentine's fault haha oops).

    TORTA - UNCONTESTED MVP

    Spoiler
    • Togedemaru @ Sturdy
    • Item: Amplifield Rock
    • 5 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
    • Spiky Shield, U-Turn, Zing Zap, Electric Terrain

My beautiful darling Field Wrecker :) most teams in the E4 heavily relied on their fields (pretty much everything except the Arceus fight), so I ended up leading with Torta to disrupt their plans and then U-Turn out of there to live another day. Add Spiky Shield for chip damage and Zing Zap if I knew she could take on an enemy (i.e. a lot of Heather's team). Absolutely indispensable, I will no longer doubt the power of Hedge-achu.

    SCINTILLA

    Spoiler
    • Shiny Altaria @ Natural Cure
    • Item: Altarianite
    • 5 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
    • Dragon Dance, Dragon Claw, Bulldoze, Rest

BABYYYYY I actually barely caught her before the E4 and knew I had to train her up and add her to the team so I may or may not have boxed my Ditto to give her the spotlight. She was a serious sweeper when she had to be, and it was fun to switch her in and see an enemy go for a dragon-type move right after she mega-evolved into fairy and set up with DDance :) Just like my other sweepers, she only came in during certain battles, and cleaned up whenever she did.

    VALENTINE

    Spoiler
    • A-Ninetales @ Snow Warning
    • Item: Icicle Plate
    • 5 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
    • Blizzard, Aurora Veil, Hail, Dazzling Gleam

My only special attacker for whatever reason, even though I really didn't plan for it. She was very much Torta's special helper, coming in with Snow Warning Aurora Veil after a good U-Turn to boost the whole team's survivability. Aside from that, no-accuracy check Blizzard hit like a truck, especially when 2/5 of the Elite Four (Heather and Laura) were weak to ice.

(She was also often the reason Torta and Affirmative got knocked out after surviving on Sturdy, but don't worry. No hard feelings there. I think.)

    RHODOCRINE

    Spoiler
    • Rhydon @ Lightning Rod
    • Item: Eviolite
    • 5 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
    • Drill Run, Megahorn, Stone Edge, Earthquake

A general bulky powerhouse and literally the only other guy on the team aside from Tyrant, there's not much else to say about Rhodocrine except he was the cleaner-upper whenever we had something that nobody else could handle. It wasn't often, but it was often enough that he pulled his weight as much as the rest of the team. Not to mention he was the physically and specially bulkiest pokemon on the team, even outperforming Affirmative when he had his trusty Eviolite on.

  2. Since you're already using Togedemaru, may I add that Sturdy Toge with Amplifield Rock + ETerrain/Zing Zap was my go-to for the majority of my run, max atk/speed. It could deal good damage with terrain boosted ZZ, and reliably crippled any team that relied too much on their field.

In general it looks like your team is only set up so it can run some support and maybe win some 1v1s with type advantage, but if you're running a lot of purely offensive mons, you need at least one pivot too (or fodder, at the very least). Ghost or dark especially if it's Pory giving you trouble, you can literally abuse the AI to get free switch-ins on immunity alone.

    Wait thats gone?

The Torkoal-Hot Chair cutscene at the beginning of the game.

Honestly though, imagine looking at the entirety of Reborn, the Corey and Taka bits particularly, and thinking that scene of all things would be removed for being "too disturbing" and part of some censorship scheme instead of, y'know, because the devs just didn't want it in the game.

  4. FWIW, there was also a password that would enable you to get Aevian Missy in the Nuzleaf area of Rhodocrine Jungle, but AFAIK that has been long since expunged from the passwords document and I don't remember what it was.

  5. I personally had a staple weather controller and terrain controller on my team since gym 12, if not earlier- namely Snow Warning A!Ninetales and Sturdy Togedemaru, but anything that can take a hit or pop a Terrain before it goes down is worth keeping around.

It's not as permanent as burning the whole field, but Togedemaru Electric Terrain with an Amplifield Rock can at least negate the field long enough to cripple the enemy (which can apply to all of the E4 fields, giving it much-needed flexibility), and Ninetales can get rid of the pesky rain so the garden doesn't advance automatically when the terrain drops (and also so your fire type moves don't get an attack cut). Bonus points that, specifically in the Bennet/Laura fight, it's not targeted first turn and is able to put up an Aurora Veil to help too.

can someone explain to me how the routes work? First there was a zekron Route and a Reshiram Route. The Reshiram Route can be reached by doing certain choices. Than all of the sudden a Anna Route comes into play!. Is the Anne Route and the Resh Route the same or are there more thna 2 Routes?

Reshiram and Zekrom routes are based completely solely on whether you fight Taka in the WTC or not. Yes for Zekrom, no for Reshiram. There are no other choices required for this route split.

"Anna Route" is a Reshiram-based route/extra content that you only get by fulfilling the very specific criteria that other people in the thread have outlined.

Ame's said before that neither route is a "true" rotue, they're just two alternatives.

I haven't done it yet, but supposedly if you do those six things to get the different champion fight, and then win phase 3 of that fight, you should remain on that alternate route for some late postgame stuff

I personally......don't like that this was said at all and am highly disappointed with it even if (or perhaps especially because) it came from Ame's mouth herself, because-

    Spoiler

-the unique Reshiram route has unquestionably more content lore-wise, down to meeting child Lin (early perhaps, maybe she shows up in Zek postgame but I haven't reached that yet) and learning more about her actual motives rather than a disembodied voice giving us vague meta implications. For all intents and purposes, that route has more content and more impact to the plot, so it is a "True Ending" in video game terms, even if Ame herself says that both can be equally canon as far as storyline goes.

I love this game, even if it has its down moments, but Ame saying that no ending is a "true" ending and then certainly giving one very specific set of circumstances more weight in the story than the other irritated me as somebody who was (falsely) reassured that I didn't have to worry about doing things perfectly in order to get a certain desired ending. It feels like a promise that was failed to be kept, to me.

Quick disclaimer, I haven't finished Rejuvenation and am just at the part where we just got Magma Drift but I just feel like talking about this point and I think my arguments here should still be valid since it's not entirely related to the plot or progress of the story.

You're allowed to make arguments and have opinions at any stage in your playthrough and that's valid, but the fact is that you barely scratched the surface- no, you haven't even done that in terms of who the MC actually is. Your assertion is that the MC acts as both a character and a blank slate at times, and to that I say (vague late game spoilers)-

    Spoiler

well you're a little closer to correct than you think, but approaching it at a weirdly incorrect angle because you're still so early on and don't understand how literal this can be taken.

Without spoiling anything out here, where you are is absolutely early to be discussing the MC in full depth, and I would hold off until you're caught up because V13 flips everything on its head. Whether that's in a good way or a bad way, you really should reserve your judgment until you know the true nature of the character you're playing.

  9. Trying (and probably failing) to be blunt but hopefully not rude:

    A. We don't know, and probably never will.

    B. It should not (and does not) matter, because in the end xe is still nonbinary regardless.

    C. There are many people who are born under the binary but don't identify in the binary (hi yes hello), so assuming those are the only three options is incorrect and also rude.

    D. Don't equate somebody's gender identity to their, uh, "mating" capabilities, that's also incorrect and rude.

  10. A THIEF, REBORN

Or, Kaito is an Idiot and Here's Why

Well, here's a concept I've tried (several times) but never really cataloged, but here I am doing it now. If you've ever heard of that one unknown, totally vague, unpopular, never heard of manga series known as Detective Conan (that was a joke, by the way), then you may have heard about its less popular, older yet shorter counterpart known as Magic Kaito, about the phantom thief known as Kaitou KID. If you have, then this will be something like an IC playthrough/fanfic through the eyes of the gentleman thief Kaitou KID- or rather, his civilian counterpart Kaito Kuroba. Of course, there's some things changed since he doesn't exactly exist in the Pokemon universe, but the basics stay the same.

If you have no clue what I'm talking about, then don't worry and just treat this like a normal themed playthrough because everything you need to know will be explained within this prologue! In fact, if you really want to, you can just treat him like a regular OC player character (but if you don't want to and instead want to look up his source material, be my guest).

    Phantom Thief KID Announces Retirement!

    tumblr_inline_oqyl066uIl1shod6d_540.jpg

The headline shook the entire Alola region, save for one Kaito Kuroba; for others, it was shocking news, but of course it wouldn't be nearly as shocking for the very person who had made the announcement. At the tender age of eighteen, Kaito, also known as the infamous phantom thief Kaitou KID, was finally putting away his thieving cape and learning to live as a normal person. No more gem stealing, no more police chasing after him, he was just going to be a regular person doing regular person things.

Or rather, a regular trainer, as the Pokemon in his company were far too attached to him to let him move on without them. From Alola, where KID was a household name and thievery was considered prime time entertainment, to Reborn, where hopefully he could turn over a new leaf, he was going nowhere without his squad. Frankly, though, he would have been more offended if they had preferred to stay in their PC boxes, considering all of the events they had gone through. From his jewel heists as KID to his everyday battles as normal old Kaito, each one of his Pokemon was special and held a place in his heart, and if he was going to journey, he wasn't going to do it without his most trusted companions.

Turquoise and Diamond were easily his most well-known "utility" Pokemon- Turquoise often used Transform to cause distractions or give him alibis, while Diamond collected keys and had probably picked more locks in his lifetime than Kaito himself. While they were known as KID's Pokemon, however, Kaito never used them, and so he figured that now was as good a chance as any. Hopefully they'd see their share of battling- especially since they were itching to join the real world after years of being kept in the dark.

Amethyst had no battling experience, but she served more as the group's mascot-slash-moral support, even though he knew she wanted to change that, and he was willing to give her the chance. Although she was young, he had plans to let her join the others on the journey, in hopes that she would grow, both physically and emotionaly. On the other hand, though, Quartz was a stunning battler, slamming hard on enemies with their rough exterior and delivering fast blows once it was broken. They were Kaito's offensive shooting star, the pride of the battling team. Unfortunately, though, they were very dependent on Kaito to give orders, and rarely - if ever - took the initiative to attack otherwise.

Pearl and Opal, like Amethyst, were also greenhorns on the battling scene, but for completely opposite reasons. Pearl was just newly hatched, and yet held a fierce streak- after all, she took after her father Tourmaline, Kaito's original (and late) Togekiss, and was a competitive rough-houser through and through. While Kaito knew she wanted to fight, he also knew that he had to reign her in before she could do too much to the enemy; after all, the point was to knock out an opponent, not kill them. Opal, on the other hand, was timid and easily spooked, which didn't bode well for a child with a powerful Moonblast attack. More than once, Kaito had accidentally startled her and received a fairy-type move to the face, which meant that he had a long way to go before she was ready for battling against Pokemon that would undoubtedly intimidate her.

Unlike the others, Emerald and Aquamarine were complete unknowns; Emerald was rescued from an illegal shiny farm, and the intent had been to give her to a loving family; however, she bonded with Kaito extremely quickly, and had refused to leave his side. While he was grateful to have her in the party, she was also a handful, acting like the "mother" of the group and berating the other Pokemon when they messed up all while roosting atop Kaito's head. Meanwhile, Aquamarine was......an anomaly. They had appeared in Kaito's PC box one afternoon, despite Kaito having absolutely no memory of catching them, and releasing them seemed to be impossible as they just kept coming back. Kaito had to wonder if the Carbink was purposefully stealing his Pokeballs just to get captured by him, but the thought was unlikely; after all, the poor Pokemon seemed too dumb to do something as crafty as that.

Topaz and Peridot were known as the prankster duo of the team, and while it was entertaining, one had to wonder if they got it from their trainer who seemed to enjoy their pranks more than they themselves did. Topaz was known for digging holes and hiding other people's belongings in them, while Peridot played innocent; in fact, she was more often than not the one who stole those items to begin with. However, behind that friendship, there was also an uneasy fear. Topaz, when not cheerfully pranking people, was often melancholic or downright depressed, while Peridot was known to be merciless in torturing enemies in battle with her poison attacks, and even exploding in anger sometimes when the battle didn't go her way. While that was natural for Cubone and Mareanie, respectively, some had to wonder if maybe there was something else going on.

Last but not least, Ruby and Sapphire were the orphan twins of the group. Both of them found by Kaito fairly recently, they were nursed back to health not too long before his retirement, and so hadn't received as much experience with battling as his official team did. However, they both showed promise; when Kaito found them, they were exhausted and covered in wounds, but the Carvanha fainted nearby looked much worse for the wear. While Kaito still hadn't seen their skills up close, he knew that they would find their chance eventually- he was especially looking forward to seeing what they could do together in double battles.

For now, those twelve shown are going to be the rotation 'mon, with one change: if y'all are interested in my playthrough, I want y'all to pick one 'mon for me to kick from the Squad. Whether they suck and you want to make it easier for me, they're good and you want to make it harder for me, or for whatever reason you just want to see what the playthrough is like without that particular Pokemon on the team, now's your chance to speak up or forever hold your peace. That will also bring the rotation down from 12 to 11- and be plot relevant! That Pokemon will become unusable and, for plot purposes, completely gone from the team for the foreseeable future, unless something drastic happens. If there's no preference from y'all, I'll just RNG it.

(Also, if this thread gets enough participation, that may not be the last time I ask you guys to decide something for me- after all, I sure do love screwing myself over.)

Other than that, if you have any comments/critiques, I'd love to hear them!

  11. So I've applied quick patches 1 and 2, but the guy still spits me out in the cave on Route 2. Do I have to restart the game from scratch, are the patches bad, or is there just flat out something wrong on my end?

(attached my game data just in case)

EDIT: yep, had to restart the game. It's all good now, though. Looks great!

Have you tried setting another key?

Yeah, it still does the same thing. On further inspection, though, it looks like it's not unsticking every time, it's reclicking. So if I was at normal speed, I'd go back to 2x if I left the building/battle/etc. :/

  13. I just recently (as in, twenty minutes ago) started having an issue where the alt fast forward function won't....stick? Like, I'll press alt and everything will work fine, but as soon as I enter another map (a building, a battle, etc.), it switches off again. It's not really the worst thing in the world, it's just a major annoyance having to switch it on again and again, especially when I'm grinding and flip through pokemon battles like nobody's business.

I really don't know what happened, since the function was working fine, like, an hour ago when I last played it and I didn't fiddle with the system or anything. Anyone have any possible ideas/solutions?

    Ribombee, Lycanroc

Those two can do some work for you

ignoring that argument up there, both of these are seconded.

Ribombee is a special attacking monster, especially with Quiver Dance. It might not be the best setup, but I personally enjoy going Big Root, setting up with QD and then hitting enemies with Draining Kiss and Leech Life for massive healing boosts. For the last move slot, I tend to stick with Pollen Puff for double battle shenanigans.

Meanwhile, Midday Lycanroc (my personal fav) is pretty frail but, like Jess said, has Accelerock, which can definitely come in handy, and it's a speed demon anyways. Unfortunately, it's more of a glass cannon than its other form. Midnight Lycanroc is a little tankier and doesn't have Accelerock, but if  you want something with more survivability (and since you like Vikavolt, it seems plausible), then you might want to go with that instead.

Well a thing you could do is if you have a controller that can plug into your laptop you could download a program called JoytoKey which allows you to use a controller to press keys and such. it take a little bit to config but ive been using it to play reborn and rejuvenation and it works wonderfully.

    I don't. I'm not a console person, and I don't have a joystick, either.

  16. As hype as I was (still am) for v9, between v8 and v9, my laptop faced a little.....incident, and the down arrow is broken. Kaput. No longer works. Obviously, that's an issue. I don't really know if this is the right place for it, but does anybody know if it's possible to swap out the arrow keys for WASD or something? F1 doesn't really give an option for direction keys, only the AB/XY replacements.

I'm sorry, but I don't get it. I've literally talked to every person I found in 7th street. I've also already given everyone in my team a job, so I can't talk to them anymore. And who is it that you need to battle, because I can't remember battling anyone in 7th street related to this quest?

Wait, my bad, it wasn't actually a battle, I just got mixed up between the first and second parts (when you battle the three idiots).

It was just the event that was initiated- the guy selling you your 'mon and then it getting stolen by Rouge. Either way, though, it had triggered for me during  E16 when I had definitely finished it during E15.

Except the ones that have access to Fire attacks...

And those are.....? Gyarados is unavailable as of right now (and might not be available in E17, either), Octillery's decent but Flamethrower and Fire Blast are non-STAB and that's if it doesn't get OHKO'd because its speed stat is absolute garbage, and the only other thing I can think of is HP Fire which would be handy but (IMO) a pain to breed onto a water 'mon if it's just going to be used for one field/type. Am I forgetting any?

Anyways, if you're going to use water types on this field, the only thing I can think of just by glancing at the field effects is to hit with ice-type moves; I'm personally a fan of Masquerain, using specifically Quiver Dance/Ice Beam (or Blizzard if you're willing to slap a Wide Lens on that bad boy) and Infestation (or Bug Buzz) as a backup plan, especially in the higher field stages.

  19. Dunno if there's an E16 troubleshooting thread yet, but I'm getting a fatal error whenever I try to soft reset?

Look at me, forgetting an entire troubleshooting subforum exists.

Besides that, though, E16 was well worth the wait; my inner open-world gamer sighed happily when I saw how much had changed.

  20. I'd actually have to say that it'd be too much for a game that's already as big as Reborn. Fun to speculate about, sure, but when you've already got PULSE mons to worry about, the field effect system, and a plot the size of Fern's ego, I don't think I personally would be able to handle more type-swaps than the ones already introduced in Sun/Moon.
