  1. Edgy does not mean bad.

That’s a fallacy a lot of people seem to fall for.

Every time we discuss a word we need to make certain we are on the same page, for "edgy" most people mean something that is trying to be dark but fails miserably.

I think a bunch of people just label everything dark as "edgy", and I think the problem lies here. Last point, I think it can be a bit subjective but trying to understand what the story is going for can help.

I’ll be frank, I actually think that Persona 3 fits “Edgy” almost perfectly.

That doesn’t stop it from being one of the greatest games ever made, and better than its less edgy successors..

A story can be dark, but not edgy. When it doesn’t directly shove dark things in your face.

Edgy usually means that the story in question is trying to be dark. Like Persona 3.

I don't know Persona 3 but I saw the cutscene with the Persona awekening.

I see what you mean by "edgy" now, if a show/videogame is going for this kind of appeal and it succeeds despite(BECAUSE) it's over the top then it's a good kind of edgy, when it fails to do so and has a "trashy" aura to it I'd say it's the kind of edgy most people think of when they use the word negatively.

I'm sorry I don't have valid example, maybe I'll come up with one later.
