    postgame speedrun notes

    https://pastebin.com/JZmiYZbF

this is just to showcase the routing and serves as a reference to myself once I eventually do this in a single segment run. granted i won't be attempting this any time soon and will do so whenever the new patch drops since they will have ng+ shards i will need for certain sections of the game, but just thought i'd post here if anybody is interested. the postgame is approximately 4 hours which is almost as long as the main game speedrun is. we do also use 2 new members to help us get through these postgame fights more easily. i'm not going to spoil who they are, but they were chosen based on their viability, team synergy and overall convenience in getting (there were a lot of good options). there's too much to say in regards to all this, so ill just let my notes and sample route speak for itself. if ya'll have any questions or anything feel free to shoot since i left a lot of stuff unclear but yeah enjoy!

  2. Notes: https://pastebin.com/E9LLZeaf

this took a minute, but i finally did it. execution wise the run was pretty on point outside of a couple mistakes, but overall still a good time. there were a couple of fights that trolled me but that's bound to happen in a game like this over the course of hundreds of battles. my sum of best is ~4:30, so there's about 5 minutes of resets that happened due to some miscellaneous bullshit. will try to get this down to at least sub 4:35, but just wanted to showcase the run in its entirety for anybody interested. this is a very execution heavy speedrun that's reliant on muscle memory for the most part but anybody can do this if you just follow the notes/video and you'd probably average 4:45-4:50 for a first time. when i get a run i'm satisfied with ill post a public video (i'm slightly embarassed by my performance in this one)

    notable instances of time loss:

    -maxwell trolled me 40:00

-let sharpedo faint to togedemaru, was supposed to switch to nidoqueen 1:11:30

-bad reset vs double before sirius, evs would be screwed up otherwise 1:16:08
-accidentally fought this hiker and went over the ledge, cost me my hjk pp which made the other hiker fight slower 1:54:35

-charlotte crit me which changed her behavior, tried to adapt but costly reset 2:08:40

-mantine crit me, didnt have revives to so had to improvise vs the trainer after with no blaziken 2:26:25

-fern+blake kept trolling me, walrein is cringe 2:35:05

-slightly screwed up this fight 3:36:25
-fought the knight first, was supposed to fight zoroark first and menu after for the knight but zoroark likes to take its sweet time sometimes 3:52:05

-forgot to protect vs haxorus woops 4:26:45

  3. finished routing for e19, this is up to date with patch 19.08. this speedrun is using the speedrun password, but i ban weathermod and powerpack since they make the game too easy, overpowered or what i consider to be instances of cheating. estimated time is still around sub 5 hours, but victory road will probably require a lot of practice to execute perfectly. all the fights are down to an exact science, but a couple of tag fights will require some minor in battle adaptations. i don't anticipate this route to change any time soon unless there are any more drastic changes to the ai, though there might be some more ng+ stars to bypass a couple more puzzles. other than that this is a really tight speedrun that is very execution and memorization heavy with minimal instances of rng, so will need to do a lot of practice before i attempt actual runs. here's the route for anyone interested and crazy enough to run it lol.

  4. since you're answering questions regarding gen 8, will pokemon's level up moveset be transitioning to swsh level up movepool or will they stay at usum (referring to non gen 8 pokemon but those that did not get dexited)? is rejuv going to transition to gen 8 tms or stick with gen 7 tms, or are you guys just going to add any extra tms that were added in gen 8 to the existing gen 7 ones? will technical records be added into the game as well? also are you guys going to retroactively remove moves that were removed in gen 8 (e.g. return, hidden power, pursuit, etc.)? my concern with the addition of implementing gen 8 is that some pokemon will benefit from the transition while others will not and am overall curious how this will affect rebalancing the game as a whole.

  5. also wanted to share my updated notes that incorporates no kricketune amongst other tweaks. having no kricketune saves on average 10 minutes for the early game, though it does make florinia split a bit more scary not having it. this also means that torchic gets a lot more extra useless evs which means that we buy ev reducing berries to compensate for that. in particular the shelly fight is much shorter since we approach that fight completely differently by teaching blaziken fire pledge and setting her forest on fire instead of having to stall out her rain. no kricketune also means combusken gets more experience for the early game saving us having to use a rare candy on it, which saves money on having to buy an extra one and time by picking up less things to sell and fighting less optionals. aside from that we do some other strats to make a couple fights faster but there's too much to mention. major congrats on the new pb though, here's hoping for a sub 5 🙂

  6. I guess 2020 is the year for the monster collecting genre lol. Demo's already out and the game was recommended to me by a friend of mine. Unfortunately I don't have the time to really dig into it but overall looks very promising for what it offers so I figured you guys might like it as well. My personal hot take is that this looks way more polished than TemTem despite it being overshadowed even though they both released at around the same time. Check it out if it interests you!

  7. first battle should be pretty easy, second fight focus on beating either fern or blake down first. hippowdon will yawn either haxorus or walrein (assuming 18.2) which invalidates one of their slots which you can focus on the other. once one of them is done just focus on the other. florinia's team is also buffed in 18.2 so should be more manageable. third fight is dependent on whether julia or florinia is your partner, but as a rule of thumb focus down solaris first since john can't do much with whishcash. you can also quicksave during the cutscenes in between each battle so you can restart before any one fight. if you are still unprepared then go back to an older savefile and stock up on healing items.

  8. i go by ~(^.^)~#3568 and i'm in the reborn server as well. just to make sure, is your run segmented or is it done all in one go? i skimmed over your notes and its pretty detailed, demanding and balls to the wall risky and rng reliant for that matter, so i'm unsure on how consistent some of your routing is. however, since you play without speedup i figured a non-segmented run might be less intense to execute. still wanted to confirm what kind of run yours was so i can make sense of some of the times you got on each split. also if it's any consolation, partner ai has also been buffed quite a bit so a lot less can go wrong in certain tag battle fights and florinia's team in particular for fiore has been buffed.

  9. hey dude really cool run and ideas you brought up, i'll give it a look see when i have more time. that said me and arkadius are playing and rerouting on 18.2 since the aiupdate amongst other things like the fast travel forfeit feature really do make a lot of changes to the current run. here's my run on 18.1, unfortunately my pc isn't the strongest and has a lot of overworld lag hence the bad time but it showcases all the new (or should i say old) strats that i employ. also for future reference it would be great if you recorded a run since i would have loved to see it in its entirety but major props on creating your own original route and putting your own spin on things! im currently at charlotte rn for 18.2 but so far things seem a lot better, granted i did have to get creative with a lot of things. hit us up on discord if you wanna chat about anything 🙂

  10. yeah i sure hope so, like i said wildcards are likely to be possible so i genuinely hope we can get some interesting/difficult battles and not anything too one note. i'm uncertain how difficult the e4 will be compared to all the gym leaders and boss fights we already faced, but outside of the champion battle, the rest of them can be cheesed by altering their terrain (especially flower garden) which more or less would invalidate the challenge i'd assume, so i kind of hope their teams aren't too reliant on the field effect itself. it would also be interesting if they forced the player to not use items and/or be in set > shift mode to bump up the difficulty but i kind of doubt it.

  11. so i was a bored and wanted to figure out what we the player will have to face later on in e19. this is just my speculation based on prior events leading up to it as well as information one can glean from the field effect manual, feel free to chime in and fill in any gaps i may have missed.

saphira is up first, and the final gym leader that we'll have to face. it's probably no secret as to what field we will be facing her on so i'll just assume
    it's this one.

    #--------------------------- 32. Dragon's Den [DD] ----------------------------------#
"If you wish to slay a dragon..."
    *       Dragon type attacks increase in base power x2
    *       Fire type attacks increase in base power x1.5
    *       Water and Ice type attacks decrease in base power x0.5
    *       Multiscale additionally annulls user's Dragon type's weaknesses at all times
    *       Activates Marvel Scale
    *       These moves apply additional Fire type damage:
Smack Down      Thousand Arrow    Continental Crush    Tectonic Rage
    *       These moves increase in base power x2:
Pay Day         Dragon Ascent    Smack Down    Thousand Arrows
    *       These moves increase in base power x1.5:
Lava Plume              Magma Storm             Mega Kick
    *       Pokemon with the following abilities have their defenses boosted on switch-in:
                    Magma Armor
    *       Magma Armor additionally protects from Fire Attacks
    *       Magma Storm deals 1/6 Max HP damage per turn (from 1/8)
    *       The stat-changing effect of these moves is amplified:
                   Noble Roar      Dragon Dance
    *       These moves transform this field into a Cave:
                   Glaciate        Hydro Vortex        Subzero Slammer
    *       These moves transform this field into a Cave after two uses:
Muddy Water    Oceanic Operetta    Sparking Aria    Surf
    *       Elemental Seed boosts Sp.Atk and applies Flash Fire boost to the user
    *        Nature Power becomes Dragon Pulse
    *        Camouflage changes the user's type to Dragon
    *        Secret Power may Burn

well her dragonite is going to be a royal pain in the ass, but aside from that i'm going to go out on a limb and say her mega will probably be mega charizard x. even though it's not really a true dragon type, considering how utterly op it is on this field and her mother caroline having its megastone in the back of her gym, it seems the most plausible. definitely no kingdra considering how much its nerfed here and amaria already having it. ampharos, sceptile, altaria, salamence, garchomp, hydreigon and dragalge will likely not be seen as they are all megas and/or aces of other characters (besides sceptile). other pseudos in goodra and kommo-o will likely be used (assuming assault vest and clangorous soulblaze), as well as haxorus as they have not really been used by any other relevant characters. her last is likely a lesser dragon and what's left is exeggutor, flygon, druddigon, tyrantrum, noivern, turtonator and drampa. my educated guess would probably be either flygon, druddigon or tyrantrum but can't say for sure. aside from that she might use pokemon from the dragon egg group but not likely considering that all gym leaders battle using monotype for gym battles with the exception of noel's clefable, but how cool would it be if she used an unburden seed sceptile or marvel scale milotic? not sure if she is going to be fought in singles or doubles but going to go with singles since we just faced hardy in doubles, also not accounting legendaries for obvious reasons. from what's left in the tm pool, we get dragon claw after defeating her.

to recap, my guess as to what saphira's team will be is: dragonite, charizard, kommo-o, goodra, haxorus, filler

next up is the elite 4. not sure the order we face them in or if there even is one and we can fight them in any order (like in BW), but going to start with the next belrose sister in laura.

    *    Synthetic Seed boosts Sp.Def and applies Ingrain to the user
    *    Acid Downpour reduces the field to Stage 1

jfc i know grass types suck but this just seems like overkill. ame is ramping up the bullshit to a whole nother level which i gotta say, you can never have too much of i guess. needless to say decontructing this will take quite a while but at the risk of coming off as a sadomasochist, this battle will be a 6v12 double battle vs laura AND bennett. the reason i believe that to be the case is as follows:

    1) this field effect is meant to be fought in doubles and also boosts bug type moves
    2) there is not enough room for bennett to be in the elite 4 after he has helped laura reclaim her position
    3) it makes sense in regards to the overall plot to fight them both here
    4) this is not unprecedented as the player has already fought in 6v12 battles during the glass gauntlet
    5) it would be too easy otherwise

of course the one argument against this format would be that it may be inconsistent with respect to the other elite 4 members, as the rest of them are likely to be fought 1 on 1 and them not having 12 pokemon. all i can say in response to that is they will also be equally difficult, but bug and grass aren't the best defensive types and is moreso a handicap on the player to make this fight as reasonably difficult as possible. there is also the possibility that we fight laura and bennett separately, but both on flower garden as well. because this is the elite 4, i'm going to assume legendaries and wild cards likely to be used.

based on first impressions alone, this fight seems to be weather based and benefits from either sun with chlorophyll and rain to nerf fire types and not turn the terrain into a burning field. this of course is questionable as interchanging between sun and rain makes a rainbow field, which completely invalidates whatever the fuck flower garden is. while lilligant is guaranteed to be her ace, i think it's safe to say that she also has a cherrim considering how much flower gift utterly buffs her teammate and the terrain itself. flower veil florges in a similar vein, but less certain as it is adrienn's ace and idk if she will overlap and use it as well, also it not actually being grass type. her options for a mega are venusaur, sceptile and abomasnow, with the most likely being venusaur for obvious reasons. grass type legendaries include celebi, shaymin, virizion, tapu bulu and kartana with shaymin being a prime suspect. her last member(s) will most likely be support based and help set up weather. ninetales isn't too much of a stretch given its history with charlotte, nor is politoed as poliwag is indigineous to tanzan cove. hell she may even set up manual weather with something fast like jumpluff or whimsicott idk.

to recap, my guess as to what laura's team will be is: lilligant, cherrim, venusaur, skymin, filler, filler

as for bennett, i'm expecting him to stick to some of his core pokemon but still deviate a bit and benefit from the field effect. volcarona is pretty much a given, but i also think he'll keep his butterfree since it is his primary ace and can abuse 100% accurate sleep powders with tinted lens. flower garden also specifically buffs infestation, and a prime abuser of the move would be shuckle which would act as a defensive anchor to his team. bug type legendaries include genesect, buzzwole and pheromosa of which genesect would seem to be the most fitting given his scientific nature. choice in mega comes down to beedrill, pinsir, scizor and heracross. while bennett did have a scyther before, titania already used mega scizor with fern and solaris having it as well. it also conflicts with my guess in him having genesect so i think it's safe to rule that out, but going to go with pinsir as it metamorphasizes into something with wings, similar to a butterfly. not sure what his last may be as bug types are extremely versatile, could even be a wild card to cover his weaknesses so can't say for sure.

to recap, my guess as to what bennett's team will be is: volcarona, butterfree, genesect, shuckle, mega, filler

heather specializes in flying types and seeing how there are only two fields that specifically boost that type in mountain and snowy mountain, i'm going to assume she will be fought on mountain as the player has not really fought on this terrain, with snowy mountain being essentially the same thing but also making her much more susceptible to ice.

    "Adieu to disappointment and spleen."
    *    Tailwind lasts 5 turns and creates Strong Winds for its duration
    *    Rock and Flying type attacks increase in base power x1.5
    *    These moves increase in base power x1.5:
Thunder            Eruption        Avalanche        Vital Throw        Storm Throw
Circle Throw        Ominous Wind        Razor Wind        Icy Wind        Silver Wind
            Fairy Wind        Twister
    *    These moves increase in base power an additional x1.5 in Strong Winds:
            Special Flying Moves
Ominous Wind        Razor Wind        Icy Wind        Silver Wind        Fairy Wind
            Twister            Gust
    *    Sunny Day, and Drought last for 8 turns
    *    Activates Gale Wings during Strong Winds
    *    Pokemon with Long Reach deal x1.5 damage
    *    Thunder never misses
    *    These moves transform this field into a Snowy Mountain:
            Blizzard        Subzero Slammer
    *    After three consecutive turns, Hail weather will transforms this field into a Snowy Mountain.
    *     Nature Power becomes Rock Slide
    *    Camouflage changes the user's type to Rock
    *    Secret Power may flinch
    *    Telluric Seed boosts Attack and lowers Accuracy

this one appears vague and is subject to much more interpretation. not entirely sure whether or not she will be fought in singles or doubles seeing as they both are viable options, but going to assume the rest of the fights are going to be in the traditional singles format. based on her character profile, heather hates cute pokemon and prefers tough, powerful ones which makes it a lot easier to narrow down her options. she will also most likely employ tailwind to enable strong winds, which is important considering mountain buffs types that flying hates as well. salamence is no doubt her ace and doubles as her mega. she has a lot of options in regards to potential legendaries, but i think it's safe to assume she won't use one with more than 600 bst. this leaves the kanto birds, unovan genies and celesteela. of these, any of the genies seem to be the most likely considering they are the most viable, take advantage of mountain quite well and frankly are the least "cute" of the bunch. i wouldn't be surprised if she had more than 1 genie to be quite honest or zapdos for that matter. as for other pokemon that fit her strong and tough persona, gyarados and honchkrow come to mind which i wouldn't be surprised to see. talonflame and crobat are notable as well, with the former benifiting from prenerfed gale wings and the latter as a homage to her late father corey. there's not much else i can really see heather using aside from maybe a bug flying type as a sign of friendship with shelly, but nothing really comes to mind as far as potential wild cards go.

to recap, my guess as to what heather's team will be is: salamence, genie, talonflame, crobat, filler, filler

    *    Magical Seed boosts Sp.Atk and applies Magic Coat to the user

There's not really much we know about el's team other than the fact that he will probably have a choice scarf imposter ditto to reverse sweep degenerates using blaziken so that will be fun. if anyone has played reborn in its early stages, they might remember that you could in fact challenge el before fighting serra at her mansion. he only had one pokemon which was snorlax at the time, so i think it's safe to assume he will still have it here. his potential mega options include pidgeot, kangaskhan, lopunny and audino. either kangaskhan or audino seem to be the most plausible as they can take advantage of the field much better than the other 2, but probably kangaskhan since it is more offensively potent. regigigas, arceus, meloetta and silvally are the only normal type legendaries, with the two former exceeding 600 bst and the latter two being the most likely. meloetta is probably his legendary of choice considering how buffed it is by the field and silvally being nerfed by being a dark type for some reason. also going to say that smeargle is a likely option given its vast toolkit and it generally being a good lead. his last can probably be anything, another legendary, a wild card, or a generic shitty normal who knows.

to recap, my guess as to what el's team will be is: ditto, snorlax, kangaskhan, meloetta, smeargle, filler

anna is a professional in psychic types and this is going to be the field she's fought on probably.

anna's potential team is just as much an enigma as she is, but there are a couple pokemon that stand out here. jirachi obviously being her ace and choice in legendary, as it is the only pokemon known that she is alluded to have. her mega selection is pretty diverse, but i have no doubt that she will have a mega metagross to back her up as it is the one that benefits the most from starlight arena. starmie is also a very obvious pick as most of its moves are boosted and it is the only psychic type with illuminate which gets +1 sp atk upon switching in (also the fact that it's a star). those are three i think she will have for certain, as the rest of her team can be anything. i wouldn't be surprised if she had extra legendaries since a fair amount of them can take advantage of the terrain quite effectively like lati@s, victini and hoopa. nothing else really comes to mind in terms of potential wild cards other than maybe a cloud nine pokemon to negate weather which would eliminate her field.

to recap, my guess as to what anna's team will be is: jirachi, metagross, starmie, filler, filler, filler

lin is the champion that we need to overcome. i don't believe she is confined to any one type but i would wager that her theme revolves around legendaries. while this field effect isn't as egregious as laura's, i'd say it comes pretty close.

what immediately sticks out to me is grounded pokemon have halved speed, no weather or terrain cheese and every legendary getting buffed. i'd expect nothing less to be honest. new world seems tailor made for lin's hydreigon, i just wonder if it won't be overshadowed by whatever else she may have up her sleeve. that being said, the creation trio as well as arceus seem to be likely members given their overall significance in reborn's setting and story and i would be surprised if she didn't have at least one of them on her team. we don't really know much about lin herself so anything beyond this would be pointless conjecture. hell she might even use gossip gardevoir as a pulse2 against us for all i know, but all in all seems like an actually challenging final fight so looking forward to whatever it will be.

to recap, my guess as to what lin's team will be is: hydreigon, arceus, palkia, dialga, giratina, filler (mega?)

well those are all my thoughts. not sure if this post counts as spoilers but it's nothing that isn't within the realms of possibility. regardless, hope ya'll enjoyed my supposition on what's planned for e19 :p.

seeing aya have a poison point nidoqueen with stomping tantrum made me cringe.  it seems it's been a long time since i played regular reborn and many questionable changes have been made since the first time i played through the early-mid  game

i don't remember playing reborn much in its early days other than florinia having perma sand and a curse/rock tomb cradily, but how bad was aya nerfed out of curiosity? pretty sure shade losing chandelure made him easier as well, but i think that was necessary since chandy is sirius' ace.

  13. wow i expected more of a trainwreck this episode but dude's got the devil's luck with those sleep turns; would love to see how far he can take this(not counting for the impending garchomp). on a sidenote, can someone tell him to equip odd and wave incense on jynx and ludicolo? also ability capsule his growlithe to intimidate, his team doesn't look too to bad and he knows what he's doing for the most part, but can't help but think he's taking a lot of stupid and avoidable risks he otherwise doesn't need to. also aster+eclipse is going to push his shit in since his team is very rock weak and they spam rock slide, so probably should tell him he's going to be ambushed by a pretty tough doubles battle, which will be trouble for him if he's not prepared for it.

I think i the ingame cause is the fact that Saphira kills the 2 doorguards at Tanzan if she isn't kidnapped, the 3 extra battles are with the same 2 people (Demian and Antoine), so they are probably there when saphira is kidnapped because they survive in this route, and don't in the others

Certainly possible that other Story Splits have relevant minor changes like that, the Ruby Ring split specifically as far as i know though only flips you AI partners section of the climb, (Cal first, then Shelly if you don't hand it over, other way around if you do), and moves Aster between appearing at Ametrine or Glasswork Station,
Also Heather gets a Convo with Blake halfway up the Mountain if you hand the ring over but i think she gets an equally long one with Cal and Shelly if you keep it at the same spot

From what I know what difference this Story Split makes so far, I don't think losing to Chomp would help at all, It knocking out your team would be slower for Chomp itself, same with boxing part of the team to make that faster and picking them up after. and on Fiore Gauntlet, i think losing to Chomp shortens the Scene after the Fern & Blake Battle, but with speed up and all, i don't think thats a relevant amount of time, and Florinia Vs. Solaris & Oderly John, is honestly just plain worse than Julia, Team as well as AI, i think it's commonly agreed that Florinia in that fight just sucks, to put it bluntly, Florinia's Team according to PBS files if you are curious:

Yes they are not EV'd aka 85 all stats even

you are right in your assessment that not going with the story split of saphira getting kidnapped results in two grunts surviving and having to face those 3 battles later on, but those three fights are much easier since two of them are partnered with aya and cal, while the last one is easily swept by blaziken. having to do the extra double battle in tanzan is actually worse since it is by yourself and the pokemon they have are not ideal vs our current team since we are also ev training them as well (doing this extra battle also overlevels our pokemon). also the experience given from the the battles on route 3 and on ametrine are essential for blaziken later for certain fights, specifically charlotte and blake and are pretty much free experience since they are with a partner.  i've also tested out the story split of not giving blake the ruby ring, this means we will have to fight aster at ametrine for waterfall as opposed to during the glass section of the game which is longer since sharpedo with waterfall sweeps more than half that fight, having waterfall early on also makes the fights up ametrine in general faster. this also swaps our partners for the trainers up ametrine which isn't too bad, but is notably worse than the route of giving him the ring in the first place. beating solaris 1 is pretty important since it makes solaris 2 with julia>florinia a much better fight, and the experience given early on from a level 75 garchomp is nice. i'm not to familiar of the other story splits in the twins getting kidnapped and laura getting kidnapped, but if there are any notable time saves there i would love to know, this route currently isn't done however since it forces you to fight sigmund at yureyu with cain which is a much harder fight than sirius.

  15. just some notes i took for a practice run, overall it went pretty well. i also wanted to see if getting the choice band was worth it and i would say long term yes, it only takes like 30 seconds to set up and you get a free onix for the early game with sturdy+rock tomb to lower speed. having choice band on sharpedo also made some battles for the lategame a lot better. blaze as an ability has also been surprisingly helpful, but there are a couple battles i had to reroute by virtue of having blaze, not that there was much time loss all things considered. having blaze also made some battles better like corey. i also didn't teach sharpedo aqua jet since the magma grunts you fight that you use them on in 7th street are entirely optional and can be skipped if you go around them. there should be a total of 15 heart scales which you get after amaria, i'll include some screen shots down below. ampharos can survive judgement from arceus once you lead meowstic and use light screen, getting off cotton spore means sharpedo outspeeds guaranteed. the arceus has 0 ivs and is a quiet nature, it has 180 speed so you would need <90 speed level 51-52 sharpedo to not outspeed it which is impossible. i agree on not getting some rare candies since they are in unfortunate locations and they are during the lategame when you have a lot of money anyway so i wouldn't get the rare candy at the bedroom nor restored malchous forest. having changed natures on nidoqueen and ampharos to modest after amaria made the glass section and the agate takeover much smoother and is definitely worth it long term.

    blaze torchic
-will not outspeed surskit trainer so potion beforehand
-let torchic keep holding cheri berry after beating fern(need it for victoria if pichu paralyzes with static or pansear with lick)

-flame charge into double kick twice the lunatone trainer in malchous forest

-earth power dragalge and sacrifice natu, if nidoqueen has lower health than ampharos heal nidoqueen instead to take dragon pulse

buy 3 rare candies, some super repels, some full heals and a pokedoll before heading to chrysolia, rare candy meowstic to level 50(train south of chrysolia isn't open until you beat serra, you will have enough for 3 but does mean you can't splurge on berry ice creams which is why you need to buy 3)

  16. small little update, currently rerouting the early game with blaze>speed boost blaziken for two reasons. one is that ability on torchic is not guaranteed, and the second reason is that i actually think it might be better than speed boost. combusken and blaziken already come with flame charge to compensate for lack of speed and that alone should make up for certain battles where it would need to set up and sweep(corey, cal, shelly, etc.). blaze is also a useful ability in its own right and can offer a much needed damage multiplier in certain situations and can make a lot of ranges much more favorable, which makes it situationally more useful than speed boost at least early game since we have flame charge. this will obviously go back to speed boost after we unlock the move relearner since we teach fire punch, flare blitz, and high jumk kick in lieu of its previous moves. and also since this is a speedrun, having to watch speed boost text go by every turn can be very tedious, but that's just me being petty, so we'll see how that goes.

i agree with you on the daycare couple, it might not be worth doing since it takes a lot longer to set up so buying an extra rare candy is ideal, but does mean it will dip in your finances midgame so will have to compromise on buying berry ice creams which is ok since we get moo moo milks very soon and lemonade will still be useful. i mapped out all the instances where you would have to teleport throughout the run and all the rare candies and heart scales to get, the ones that have a *** next to them are the ones you don't get in the run but i think you should get all of them since optional rare candies are a huge save on your finances since that makes the bulk of our purchasing power and these are all the current feasible heart scale pick ups in the game (15 after amaria). forgoing to teach aqua jet to sharpedo at the move relearner is def worth getting the nature change on ampharos and nidoqueen since aqua jet is only used for like 2 magma grunts in 7th street. it also means sharpedo can use rock smash or strength in lieu of that, until you get water hms(rock smash is only needed for train puzzle and strength is only needed for underground railnet). 3 for blaziken, 3 for sharpedo, another 3 for blaziken to reteach moves, 3 for ampharos, 3 for nidoqueen. ideally we can change nature for nidoqueen and ampharos after we beat amaria and get the 15th heart scale if need be, but depends on e19 and if that will be necessary. i have played through and mapped out all the current battles(i did the calcs and looked at their pbs files), but unfortunately i could not test out radomus extensively since he sends out different pokemon based on what stats your pokemon are(which i am still unsure what determines what). i can confidently say that misty terrain is 100% better over fake out on meowstic and getting it before serra is definitely worth the effort since it will be useful throughout the rest of the game(helps in at least 7 battles) and fake out won't. whenever you have time, hit me up i would love to see if we can optimize it any further 🙂 . also i editted a lot of my posts prior since after testing and planning during later splits, it has influenced some of my earlier ones and make me change certain things (like new arceus strategy) so sorry for the inconsistencies.

  18. calcenon city - let blaziken keep holding wide lens, nidoqueen life orb, sharpedo black glasses and ampharos exp share. blaziken is level 85, nidoqueen 82, sharpedo 85 and almost to 86, ampharos 83. the team is more balanced in regards to levels and having life orb on nidoqueen means it makes all of the battles leading up to the glass gauntlet much more feasible by securing certain ohkos. there is no reason to teach nidoqueen flamethrower, there is no use case for it during this final part of the game since the other members are capable of beating solaris 3 and serra+radomus so don't teach it. since ampharos has the exp share, its best not to let it battle and have the other members obtain experience alongside it. first battle is fine, but kill barbaracle with nidoqueen instead of ampharos. second battle is good. third battle is fine, but  let sharpedo kill solrock. sharpedo will get chipped by rock slide since unfezant set up tailwind but that is ok. let nidoqueen kill golem and blaziken kill escavalier. third battle is good. fourth battle is a double battle, lead blaziken and sharpedo. since sharpedo is chipped, zoroark will use dark pulse on sharpedo instead of focus blast which you live, so use hjk on zoroark and crunch trevenant. fire punch vikavolt and crunch grumpig next turn. this makes the battle a lot shorter and also not having to heal in between battles. every member on the team should be alive after this battle, with only sharpedo and nidoqueen being low but that is ok, there is no need to heal. lead sharpedo, it should be level 86 by now. for aster use crunch to knock out solrock which kills with black glasses. he goes passimian next so go meowstic and use reflect. once meowstic dies go into blaziken and use bulk up. kill it off with flare blitz. krookodile will be sent next, so use hjk and kill it off. golurk is next so go back into sharpedo and kill it off with crunch. his last are two lycanroc which you can kill off both with waterfall. time for the glass gauntlet. equip charcoal>wide lens onto blaziken, soft sand>life orb on nidoqueen and switch meowstic to the front and blaziken second. make sure to common candy meowstic down to level 48, we want it to not survive certain hits and go down as quick as possible. nidoqueen alongside blaziken will get the most experience for these battles, so continue to let ampharos hold the exp share. there are two possible scenarios for this first fight, both of which occur on the first turn. either ribombee goes for sticky web or dazzling gleam turn 1. your current method relies on no sticky web turn 1 and not getting boned by marowak and focusing down on shelly first, which takes more time and is more risky since marowak is always targetting blaziken(shadow bone defense drops are very bad). it is faster and albeit still manageable to tackle them on both at the same time. always go for light screen and bulk up twice with meowstic and blaziken. here are the different ways the battle will go depending on the first turn:

sticky web turn 1 -> earth power marowak and bulk up(light screen and marowak survives and shadow bones blaze), surf and heal blaze with an ultra(dazzling gleam), heal blaze and fire punch meowstic(dazzling gleam), fire punch ribombee and ep muk(knock off into nido), heal nido and fire punch scolipede(knock off), ep muk(cain switches to nido when light screen ends once muk is chipped) and fire punch vivillon double knock out, ep muk and fire punch yanmega double knock out, ep mimi and fire punch volc(thunder into blaze), heal blaze and fire punch leavanny(thunder into blaze), switch nido to pedo and heal blaze, heal blaze if necessary and fire punch mimi, flare blitz and crunch prima.

dazzling gleam turn 1 -> earth power marowak and bulk up(sticky web), heal blaze and fire punch meowstic(dazzling gleam),fire punch and ep ribombee(light screen and knock off into nido), x defend nido and fire punch vivillon(knock off), heal nido with a lemonade and fire punch yanmega(knock off),heal nido with a lemonade and fire punch scolipede(knock off), ep muk and fire punch volc(knock off), ep muk(cain switches to nido when light screen ends once muk is chipped) and fire punch leavanny double knock out, heal blaze and fire punch muk, switch nido to pedo and fire punch mimi(thunder into blaze), heal blaze if necessary and fire punch mimi, flare blitz and crunch prima.

it's important to have backup full restores for this fight in case mimikyu paralyzes blaziken with thunder, and you should have at least 1 and at most 3 leading up to this battle. the reason why we need to switch out nidoqueen to sharpedo near the end is because if ribombee got up webs early, nidoqueen will not outspeed primarina and +2 charcoal flare blitz is a roll to knock it out (also prima will naturally outspeed nidoqueen if you have bad speed), hence doubling it up at the end with sharpedo. we also use lemonade's on the second iteration to bait muk to target nidoqueen>blaziken since it would be at lower health. you should not have to reset this fight unless blaziken gets crit early and dies. if your meowstic has a +def nature, it has a small chance to survive marowak's rock slide, if meowstic lives or dodges rock slide RESET. we want it to die turn 1 to make this battle go faster and setting up reflect makes the battle much more volatile as cain will do some funky shit otherwise.

your luna strat is good, but you need +4 to guarantee the knock out on gothitelle with charcoal fire punch, its a so-so roll in your favor to kill at +3 but is not worth risking. reflect and sacrifice mightyena. go for x attack twice on weavile as it repeatedly goes for low kick. fire punch the rest of her team. flare blitz the umbreon since it kills at +4 and is not risking hjk. you should not have to heal during this fight unless weavile crits you while setting up.

radomus and serra can also be improved. since meowstic is lower level, the clefable will be more inclined to attack and use dazzling gleam and the ninetales will use aurora veil which is ok. use light screen and x attack turn 1. switch meowstic out to nidoqueen and fire punch ninetales. heal blaziken and go for fire punch on jynx. clefable will go for thunder wave this turn but that's ok. heal the paralysis next turn and go for fire punch on glaceon, heal nidoqueen next turn and use fire punch on sandslash, use an ether for fire punch and use fire punch on bronzong, heal the paralysis and fire punch froslass and serra should go down here, heal up blaziken and use flare blitz on clefable, aurora veil should wear off now, switch out nidoqueen to sharpedo to let it get some experience and fire punch the rest of radomus' team. once sharpedo gets level 87, switch to meowstic to let it regain some experience. you do not need to talk to kiki in the void.

hardy - blaziken is level 88, nidoqueen level 84, ampharos level 90 almost 91, and sharpedo is level 87. give blaziken back the wide lens, nidoqueen life orb, ampharos rock incense, sharpedo keep black glasses, rare candy nidoqueen and sharpedo to level 88, and common candy ampharos to 89. first battle is good, but kill aggron with nidoqueen, second battle is faster to solo with blaziken(hjk everything but flare blitz lurantis), third battle is also good, but kill belossom with nidoqueen. tag battle with hardy is fine, once sharpedo dies send in nidoqueen to lategame and sweep. solaris is also clean, since meowstic is lower level staraptor guarantee knocks it out after reflect which is ideal since we want all of our turns of reflect. make sure to waterfall again when you bring excadrill to its sash, this baits in the gyarados which you can 2hko with crunch. when setting up blaziken on scizor, you only need +5 and not +6 to kill the garchomp guaranteed, so use bulk up first then x attack twice afterwards. you should not have to heal unless scizor crits you. unfortunately scizor knocks off your wide lens so if you miss hjk RESET.  for the first trainer in hardy's gym, after chipping armaldo with sharpedo and dying, go into ampharos to revenge kill it. it should get level 90 from this if it hasn't already which makes the carracosta after a guaranteed kill with discharge. the second and third trainer just lead blaziken and hjk 4 times. make sure to save before the second trainer since he has +1 evasion mamoswine. for the hardy fight, make sure blaziken is in slot 1 and meowstic is in slot 2, that way blaziken won't take full damage from rock slide and only 75% of the damage once a teamate faints. do not take the center since it takes longer. heal blaziken to full and revive sharpedo. equip amplified rock onto meowstic and make sure blaziken is still holding wide lens. turn 1 x defend and use misty terrain. go to pidove and use x defend and heal blaziken. send in sharpedo to heal blaziken and use bulk up. send in nidoqueen after and use hjk on aerodactyl and earth power gigalith. hjk archeops and earth power gigalith for a double knock out. hjk lycanroc and heal blaziken as rampardos goes for rock slide. hjk lycanroc and use earth power on rampardos for a double knock out. his rampardos is sheer force so he won't flinch nidoqueen. all of hardy's pokemon will die to a +1 hjk and setting up misty terrain is essentially the same as going for reflect since it removes the field boost he gets from his rock slides. it also means that his seed on lycanroc won't activate so he will not get +1 evasion. also a small thing, since he sends out his last with another pokemon on the field as opposed to just it, he wont appear and say any text which wastes time. if blaziken gets crit and dies that is a RESET however. you do not need brick break for this fight, your welcome. this is as optimized as i can make the speed run atm not accounting for buggy teleport so im hoping for a sub 6 or 5:30 ish, can't say for sure until e19 comes out so we will see!

  19. adrienn - after stocking up on x items, you should go next door and stock up on revival herbs in the meganium mart. these are much more useful than revives and will definitely help you out in a tight spot, and would also save time having to revive a mon, and healing it to full after with another item. i would probably buy 10, they are pretty inexpensive. teaching nidoqueen strength and having to reteach it sludge wave takes more time than just flying to spinel town and making your way to the underground railnet for the devon raid, so don't do that. all the fights leading up to victoria are clean, just have to not overlevel nidoqueen and blaziken. victoria is also clean, make sure you x defend first after you reflect as opposed to just x attack since mienshao can and probably will outspeed blaziken after +1 speed. wide lens is preferred for this fight and all the fights leading up to victoria since you will be relying on hjk a lot. this does mean that you need to flare blitz togekiss over fire punch since fire punch is a roll to kill without charcoal at +2, but blaziken will tank 2 hjks from mienshao and live the recoil from togekiss so there is no need to heal this fight. arclight can be improved. you only need to x speed twice in this battle if your nidoqueen has terrible speed. having a speed of at least 141 is necessary to outspeed jolteon after +2. otherwise you only need to use 1 x sp atk and 1 x speed as opposed to 2 of each. equip life orb for this fight, black sludge takes too much time per turn to activate and is not necessary. use +2 sludge wave to kill everything, but use earth power on ampharos. you do not need to heal in this fight. for the zel fight equip charcoal on blaziken. turn 1 go for misty terrain, meowstic should survive tbolt from aurorus. if aurorus crits meowstic turn 1 RESET. go for light screen after. go into blaziken and x attack, aurorus will go for stealth rock. go for fire punch now, it will tbolt for a sliver. this turn use bulk up as it goes for tbolt again. hail should wear off. fire punch the rest of their team, but flare blitz umbreon>hjk. you need to have a minimum of 103 hp to survive flare blitz recoil on umbreon, and you should have around 115-130 hp on blaziken by then. going for misty terrain means that aurorus can't paralyze you with thunderbolt, and it won't be terrain boosted. you should not have to heal in this fight unless aurorus crits blaziken. the reason why you need to fire punch first before going for the bulk up is because if you don't, aurorus will switch and set up hail again which will mean you will not be able to flare blitz umbreon and will waste more time with hail. this also doesn't risk having to use hjk on umbreon. when getting the fourth volunteer from onyx arcade, go to the top left corner of the onyx ward. there is a goth girl who will give you a full restore which will be important later on. your adrienn strat is very good, but you don't need to x speed nidoqueen, nor does it need to hold black sludge since it wastes time and is not necessary with hyper potions, so let it keep life orb. light screen into x defend, go into pidove and guard spec and x sp def. sharpedo and heal using hyper potion and x special. ampharos and hyper potion and x special again. ampharos lived the last turn so hyper potion nidoqueen and sludge wave here to knock them out. mawile and whimsicott come out, heal nidoqueen on blaziken's turn and earth power mawile, whimsicott will use tailwind. togekiss comes in next. let blaziken die and kill them off with sludge wave, togekiss goes for dazzling gleam while whimsicott uses hurricane on blaziken. last is florges which you can kill with sludge wave. ultra potion if nidoqueen gets crit by the lead match up but survives, if it dies RESET. x speed is only needed to outspeed gardevoir, which you will take a hit from anyway when using x speed on it so there's no point in doing so when you can make the battle go faster by taking the hit from it and kill it, also means that you won't take another earthquake from granbull. you may or may not be able to outspeed togekiss or florges at +2 depending on your nidoqueen since they have tailwind, nor can they do anything to you anyway.

titania - teach rock smash>sludge wave on nidoqueen. we will need surf later and sludge wave won't be useful for a while. when travelling up to the scrapyard, there might be a hiker on the tracks leading up to it depending on the positions of the oases at any given point, so be sure to go out of your way to avoid him if he is there. equip wide lens on blaziken, charcoal won't be necessary. for the first knight, use an x attack on blaziken, hjk mawile and fire punch escavalier. escavalier has +1 defense from the field because of shell armor, so bulk up into fire punch will not kill(fire moves in fairy tale field have a dragon subtype so it is x2 and not x4 vs escavalier) and flare blitz recoil is undesirable and takes longer since you're forced to heal after. blaziken should get level 80 from this fight, if it wasn't level 80 already. rare candy it up to level 85 once it reaches level 80, it is better to do this right now than before titania so the experience from these fights will count towards the glass gauntlet. second and third fight are free. fourth fight lead sharpedo and use waterfall twice, it needs all the experience it can get. fifth fight is also free with blaziken. once you wake up in the bed, your entire party will be healed for zekrom, you should not have to heal when battling the knights or after. switch sharpedo to the front. if your sharpedo has a speed stat of 185 or above, it will outspeed the zekrom after the speed boost. there is no need to equip focus sash since the zekrom will always use its z move turn 1 which you live. if you are slower, just use destiny bond turn 1. if you are faster, go for crunch, then use destiny bond turn 2. if zekrom crits you or it misses bolt strike turn 2 RESET. you do not need to equip magical seed onto blaziken for titania, let it hold onto wide lens. your titania strat is very good, sandslash will always go for aurora veil turn 2 on blaziken when reflect is up, just execute your usual strategy. the +1 attack and the protection from the seed boost is unnecessary, and you kill everything with +4 fire punch and hjk(also wide lens for no missing). if sandslash crits blaziken that is a RESET. if excadrill crits blaziken, revive meowstic and use reflect. send in nidoqueen after. excadrill will use smart strike which will not kill you, and you can kill it with earth power.

amaria - nvmd this is probably shorter than terra. after you convince amaria to fight you, get this full restore on the way to the telepad(you should have three full restores, they will be useful for amaria and for the glass gauntlet). your current strat for amaria is very fleshed out, but is risking getting crit after taking 15+ hits as well as being forced to heal a lot if she scald burns you which she most likely will. getting crit with ampharos is also a RESET, so instead of rare candying ampharos to level 88, rare candy sharpedo to level 85 instead and let it hold the elemental seed and let ampharos hold the exp share. go for light screen on meowstic, and light screen again since reflect wastes time and is not necessary. go to sharpedo and use x spdef, starmie will use tbolt for 35-45, now go for x attack as she goes for light screen. x attack again as she goes for tbolt. x attack once more as she tbolts again, you will live this. if she paralyzes you, use a full restore. after that crunch and sweep her entire team. this strategy makes it so you don't have to heal constantly, and is much much faster and safer since she will only attack you at least three times and is less likely to crit. crunch is a guaranteed knock out on all of her mons at +6.
