  1. So sorry, no. Quota tomorrow is to trim down this Geography essay to ~500 words (from 617) and revise for a Biology test. That's quite doable, I think. Micky? P.S. Did anyone notice the slightly Halloween-ified avatar? I might make it more obvious, add more grey and white to the scales.
  2. Rural-Urban Fringe The rural-urban fringe is the transition zone between an urban area and a rural area. During the last few decades, the fringe has become a popular area for new economic developments. The farther from a CBD a plot of land is, the cheaper it becomes; this makes sites on the rural-urban fringe appealing to businesses , as they make for affordable areas that are still close enough to the city to attract consumers. The expansion of businesses to the rural-urban fringe has also led to some contention from certain groups. Environmentalists argue that urban sprawl must be restricted to protect the natural landscape and the habitats within it. Farmers also need large areas of open land, and fringe developments can threaten the amount of space they have. There are three main issues involving the rural-urban fringe. One of these issues is suburbanisation, which is the movement of people from within a city centre to the outskirts, or suburbs, of the city. Suburbanisation is the result of several factors: people living in cities may feel that the suburbs offer a higher quality of life, with larger houses, more private space, lower crime rates and a less polluted environment, such as Stranmilis. This contrasts with more cramped and polluted city areas such as in Frenchpark St in Belfast. Suburbanisation has a number of effects on the rural-urban fringe. Smaller settlements’ unique identities can be threatened by cities merging with them. The increase in private car usage as a result of people living farther from work increases traffic congestion and contributes to air pollution. Another issue associated with the rural-urban fringe is counterurbanisation. This process is the movement of people from an urban area to a rural area, beyond even the suburbs, such as Comber or Hillsborough. The reasons for this are similar to those for suburbanisation: people are attracted to the prospect of larger houses and a more open environment. In addition, people may have an idealised vision of rural living, with a slower pace of life and a friendly local population. Counterurbanisation has a number of impacts on rural settlements. ---- Uh, part of a Geography essay.
  3. While I don't exactly understand what that is yet, I can sympathise. Micky?
  4. Uh, Tempest, you didn't predict anyone... you sure you didn't mean to go to the TFW thread? Noobly.
  5. Is anyone else ultra-paranoid about ladders?

      Ironbound

Only if they're crooked. I do get the shivers in seeing such asymmetry.

    2. Combat

      Combat

      Ladders are my natural predator.

  6. I ran it again, took slightly less than two and a half minutes between iteration 49 appearing and iteration 50 appearing. The console was using between 30-35% of the CPU (max 3GHz). So that's fun. Lugruf?
  7. My god, look at the sequence lengths... It took a few minutes to compute iteration 50, how long would iteration 100 take? Lugruf?
  8. It was a program to write a sequence of numbers starting with 1 such that the next iteration would be the number of times each digit is said out loud, followed by that digit: 1 = "one one" -> 11 11 = "two ones" -> 21 21 = "one two, one one" -> 1211 1211 = "one one, one two, two ones" -> 111221 111221 = "three ones, two twos, one one" - > 312211 It was really complex compared to the sort of things I had been doing previously. Anstane?
  9. I finally fixed the program! Hours of slaving over ArgumentOutOfRange exceptions and infinite loops, finally over. Chemia?
  10. I guess that predicts me. I appreciate your wish of luck. Lugruf?
  11. Morning. I would make today a lazy day, but homework. I guess tomorrow'll have to be the lazy day. In any case, I was thinking about the program so was trying to fix yesterday and I think I might have had a breakthrough. ...We'll see. Anstane?
  12. First post of the day! ...at 11:05 PM. I tried to debug a program for four solid hours, and it's still not fruitful. I'll just have to try again tomorrow. Lugruf?

  14. For some reason I'm picturing Bibs as some kind of mystic force in this thread. At least I know his true form on the server. Micky?
  15. I do appreciate it. Nice lizard. Micky? Also there's a link to that website at the bottom right of this forum. You must have accidentally clicked it or pressed enter when it was selected.
  16. Wait... who are you again? Happy three, you bidoof/bibarel/memester/hackmonsoverlord you, yup yup.
  17. The same can be said for you. Come back, Zumi and Bibs. One of you is next.
  18. Will do. There's plenty of time to learn. Anstane?
