Put the rails in a way so that they go straight or make precise turns, and do that from the train to the gate.

Something I didn't understand at first: at 4-way intersections, don't assume the train can just turn wherever it wants, it'll go straight.
Keep that in mind, avoid the dead-ends as well as rocks on the path and it's easy.
