i cant seem to find a decent guide to this game. Deso >> Rejuv. Anyone can link a decent guide?

Anyone can answer if there is a way to change nature ingame?

Are ability capsules available as well?

    Big thanks to the community!

It's still only a fairly new fangame (barely a little over a year and a half old) and is only featured on one website. I'm sure I or others in this thread would write a guide, if this game ever got its own forum section. As it is now, there's kinda nowhere to put a guide without it cluttering up the forums and looking VERY out of place.

I've gotta say you've really outdone yourself yet again. I haven't enjoyed a game that much since ep 14 of reborn.

Also Honedge for ep. 5 Pretty please?

I might as well straight up say this now.

Honedge is being reserved for something special, and won't be available anytime soon. Some people here probably already figured out where it's going to come from.

No im positively sure I read all the books before I went back to the room. So maybe it was just a bug/glitch. btw the save file is the configuration settings right? I'm not sure as I haven't posted it at all previously.

Assuming you're using Windows, the directory to your save file should be...

Local Disc C -> Users -> (Computer Name) -> Saved Games -> Pokemon Desolation

Your save file is called Game.rxdata.

(Moving that file to another folder by the way is how you maintain multiple save files for the vast majority of Pokemon fangames.)

I got the key for the secret room in the archives from Rosetta, and it didn't seem to open (room to the right that says its locked).just making sure that this is the room its for or if its for something different. cuz it didn't open for me to get the secret ending.

That... Should be the correct room, if I remember correctly. You might want to post your save here for Caz to look at it.

(There's also a possibility that you haven't read all of the other books in the previous rooms yet, but I don't think that should affect the door in any way.)

In the ending part -outro- it says in red ''This is the world you created, you wanted ...'' Does that have to do with your reputation with Shiv or is it meant to be that way?

Also thanks Caz for this amazing, yet also full of suspense game. Its like watching a movie which makes it much more thrilling to play. Really sad you are leaving but none can blame you. Finally good luck in your life mate, hope everything turns out alright for you!

    Peace

My personal theory regarding what the ending implies.

    Spoiler

Remember how back in the Weeping Depths, Nova and Shiv had you infiltrate Shiv's memories in order to get the stone? What if the same is actually happening to the player character? The topic of actually finding the stone outside of Shiv's dreams was never actually an option, which implies there may be a second copy out there (that was possibly destroyed) or Shiv hid it in his memories himself, but the way Shiv talked about it implies that he didn't do the latter. Thing is, if the player character is indeed dreaming, and the world of Desolation is actually a realm of dreams constructed unknowingly by the player character, then the player character may actually be reliving events from the 'real world' - just with slight alterations, the ending cutscene implies that Ava, Connor, and Baron were typical trope embellishments that didn't exist before.

What I'm saying is, the player wouldn't have known where the stone was in the 'real world', other than that Shiv had it. So why not construct a scenario in the dream world where Shiv magically conjures it out of his memories? It might actually be exactly what the player character is doing in the 'real world' - they could have somehow come into possession of the stone. One thing led to another, with the stone causing the player character to fall into a deep sleep and construct a world within the player's memories to hide in. The stone would have no special observable powers within that dream world itself - because its power is MAINTAINING it in the first place. Does the dream world have a deeper purpose? Perhaps, but we don't know enough to even begin to speculate.

Also note that possibly 'real world Aurora' isn't the only person that was talking to the player character as they slept. After the whole showdown between Nova/Shiv/Aurora, there was obviously someone else, someone far more encouraging, telling the player 'to keep holding onto their dream for a while longer'. Though it's not known exactly who this person is, although my theory is that it's probably Shiv.

Where is the key for the locked room?

You have to have done a sidequest for someone first, and then return to them BEFORE heading off to the archives when it's time for you to go there. If you're already in there, you're already past the point of no return.

(You also have to ignore the advice that several other people tell you, when you discover that it's time to head to the library. That should be enough of a hint as to who that someone is. At the same time though, THAT is also the point of no return for being able to do the sidequest in the first place.)

Also did i waste my credits on the previous jinx guild?

    Spoiler

Once you unlock the manor, you get the option to relocate the Jinx guild to it. Someone in there will return the Credits that you invested into them.

Notices Deino is in the obtainable list.........

    Um... WHAT???

I'm going to spend a year trying to find this, aren't I

If you think that's surprising, you should see the new TM list.

Desolation teams are likely to end up FAR stronger than Reborn and Rejuvenation teams at this point. Caz has been very kind with the new Pokemon selection and items given out in this chapter for some reason. Then again, the VERY frequent major story battles resulting in teams ramming straight into the level cap if you don't raise reserve Pokemon might have something to do with that. This is actually a very good game to experiment with using Pokemon you've never tried using before.

I've got to say, the music choices for this game are phenomenal.

Are the Soundcloud references available/named? If not, could they be (specifically asking for the gym leader, shiv, hardy, crescent grunt, and ace grunt)?

Gonna say now, you're going to be asking for more music sources soon. :D

Even though Desolation was put on hold for about 6-8 months... Caz came out of it as a much better writer and scenario designer. You all are in for a hell of a ride. If you thought Episode 3 was intense, ya'll haven't seen anything yet.

I have a question: What is the Level Cap in Episode 4

      Hide contents

after what happened at the end of Episode 3? At first I thought it would be Level 55, but now I have doubts.

The level cap is actually re-adjusted to 60 in Episode 4 instead of the original 55.

Obviously the episode is loaded with tons of content to justify that. Not as much as the massive content bomb that was Episode 3, but more than enough to force you to use a ton of common candies if you don't redirect all of that extra EXP to reserve Pokemon for future use.

There are a great many plot important battles in this chapter, though. Bring your A-team if you sense a major battle coming up.

  11. There is one thing I should mention that was observed throughout the course of testing.

The trend of leveling up reserve Pokemon to avoid having to spam common candies is going to continue in this chapter. If you run into any new Pokemon in this chapter that you find interesting, it'd be a good idea to raise them. And there's a lot of new interesting Pokemon in this chapter...

  12. Probably my biggest pet peeve is people throwing out the word 'edgy' to describe anything even remotely resembling dark. But I'm sleepy and that's another rant for another day (if ever), but I'll just simply say this: Desolation is NOT edgy.

There's a pretty big difference between using death (or the implication thereof) as a plot device, and using it to make the world seem dark in general (often to utterly ridiculous effect in the end), and Desolation hasn't crossed that line. There's only one character that teeters dangerously close to that, but it's pretty clearly the entire point of that character existing, I suppose.

    • Thanks 1
  13. Hmm, I actually agree with some of your assessments, though mostly regarding Vejyr and Silver Rise, along with Connor being a little too over the top for a first gym leader. For Vejyr and Silver Rise in particular, I was actually the one that suggested putting repel vendors in front of those places (they didn't exist prior to Episode 3 full release), and Weeping Hills used to be located in Route 1 (I suggested moving it to Route 2 for obvious pacing reasons).

Perhaps Vejyr would benefit from being redone. It doesn't really make sense for it to be riddled with lava jumping platform puzzles when it's supposedly supposed to be one of the main roads connecting the various areas on the island. It is also a bit over the top for an early dungeon to have what I would refer to as an 'attrition field' in general (though it is important to note that the Crescent grunts you fight are just as subject to the field's effects as you are). Well, the early game is extremely unfriendly to those who chose grass starters, the field just makes it even more so.

As for everything else, I found the forest section to be the most interesting beginning phase for all three fangames (the other two I refer to are Reborn and Rejuvenation, I consider Desolation on the same level as those two), although I do agree with the boat thing. That said, I don't think Desolation is really any edgier than the other two, I actually found it to be -FAR LESS- so compared to Rejuvenation (which made frequent references to non-plot essential NPCs dying for no real reason at all). The vast majority of the edginess so far in Desolation in comparison basically revolves around one of the admins of the Black Foxes and an admin of Team Crescent only, everything else that could even be remotely considered edgy was important for advancing the plot.

Actually yeah you're right, I do remember finding a level 64 Staraptor in the mountains pre-charlotte.  Has the chances increased slightly or am I just luckier this playthrough?

    Actually after fighting Shade

      Reveal hidden contents

I feel like Shade needs some revamp to his team or something, as he seems far easier than he was pre-15.  I think Doublade should be replaced with something else, maybe Mismagius?Dazzling gleam would help with dark types.

I have a feeling that he'll be buffed alright.

    Spoiler

He'll be buffed by the addition of Mimikyu into his team. (I imagine Shelly will end up with Araquanid or Golisopod too. Corey or Aya may end up getting Salandit/Salazzle, Corey being the more likely candidate as one of his fields boosts fire attacks.)

Nice artwork, *o* So, Aurora is Shiv's sister, eh? Or not, we'll see. I just realized that you remove the Pokemon logo in the title.

I truly doubt it's going to be that simple. If there's one thing that Desolation is known for, it's that you barely ever see the twists coming, and they're not really what you expect.

Also, one last gripe before I resume lurking - I've had this game for months and I still haven't beaten Connor. Not once. I'm starting to suspect he CAN'T be beaten without cheating somehow.

Catch a Bidoof, evolve it into Biabarel, use Defense Curl a couple times, heal, and proceed to Rollout your way to victory.

Or at least that's how I assume most people do it.

    does anybody know Trapinch location?

    Spoiler

You need to finish the abandoned mansion sidequest in the Silver Forest, then take the key gained from it all the way back up the Silver Rise to unlock the cabin at the very top of the mountain. The Trapinch is inside. Make sure to save a spot in your party if you want to soft reset for nature/IVs. Also be aware the Trapinch comes sufficiently leveled to the point where learning Earthquake and evolving into Vibrava is just a step away.

  18. Let's have an incredibly snarky librarian in the next city that describes the various areas on each island, including ones we haven't been to yet. Kind of like Reborn's historians, but more amusing yet flawed at the same time.

"Only Arceus knows why the island folk decided to build a main road THROUGH Vejyr instead of AROUND the volcano."
"Why does the labyrinth even exist? Because why the hell not?"
"There is only one rule when traversing the frozen lands, and no, it has nothing to do with having to bury your horrid fashion style. Bring Repels. Lots and lots of repels."

May or may not end up tying into the photo/dagger sidequest later.

Do I actually have a Pokemon like that in my party, or is this a window that I should ignore?

    My current roster:

    - Azumarill (Dive, Play Rough, Bounce, Strength)

    - Dragalage (Sludge Bomb, Surf, Toxic, Dragon Pulse)

    - Roserade (Dazzling Gleam, Leech Seed, Magical Leaf, Shadow Ball)

    - Archeops (Rock Slide, Fly, Acrobatics, Crunch)
