Wasn't the second game supposed to be released this year? And was then released two months after the first?

No? There was never any announcement about a second game releasing in a year.

It was hinted at by popping up on Scott's site, but just like the third and now the last game it literally just popped up and was announced that it was coming out.

The third one was released like a day or two early, but that's about it.
