Chapter 16: A Rescue, Thwarted

We set out towards Valor Mountain to try to rescue Nim. After passing through Route 5, we are faced with a water crossing. Halfway across, though, we are stopped.

Now that Crawli has returned, let's see about that gym challenge. But first, we did some training with our newest member:

Mmkay, so first that rain will be going away.

Vermilion's Sunny Day cancels the rain (good) and creates a Rainbow Field (not really helpful, but unavoidable); he then barely survives a sun-weakened Liquidation. Vermilion puts out one Lava Plume before falling...It doesn't do a whole lot (somehow)

Coquelicot drops Golisopod immediately with Acrobatics

Another Acrobatics obliterates Heracross, though let it be known that this scarfed bug is actually faster, so Gale Wings was a factor

Yanmega actually survives an Acrobatics (how???), Ancientpower is then a one-shot, so I guess that's done. The sun ends here, so the field reverts

Yanmega gets healed, but Alizarin's Heat Wave downs it in one go anyway, while igniting the field. Further research has shown me that Yanmega's base Def is 86, but it's SDef is only 56, which I wasn't totally aware of. Suddenly a lot more makes sense

Araquanid tanks a Thunder Fang with health to spare, and hits a Poison Jab which poisons Alizarin. We choose Flare Blitz next, which Araquanid still manages to survive (curse that Water Bubble), it then fells Alizarin with Liquidation. However, the field damage faints Araquanid

Scolipede moves first (not surprising) and crushes Carmine instantly with a crit Rock Slide (...also not surprising *sigh*). Scolipede gets a Speed Boost

The now faster Scolipede goes for Swords Dance, allowing Rosso the chance to erase it with Flare Blitz ~~maybe I should have just started this way tbh~~

Galvantula is also faster; it uses an Electro Ball, then survives a Flare Blitz with its Focus Sash...then faints anyway from field damage

In contrast to the last fight I had a blatant advantage this time, though I still made a sacrifice to remove the perma-rain. It wasn't hard...that being said, Crawli still brought a lot of fight. He has tons of coverage, plus Gen VII gave us several great Bugs, 2 of which are now staples in his team.

Vs. Venam and Saki

~~Yes, Melia does indeed send out a Fairy mon versus a Poison and a Steel trainer. And yes, it doesn't end up mattering, because she's perfect~~

Carnelian hits Metagross with Flamethrower, then Hapi hits an Air Slash on Toxapex. Metagross hits a Meteor Mash on Carnelian (why??), Toxapex throws out some Poison Spikes. The next turn Carnelian and Hapi both Flamethrower Metagross; it goes down. Toxapex puts out more spikes

Carnelian hits Aggron with a Flamethrower, Hapi's Air Slash flinches Toxapex. Aggron hits Carnelian with an Aqua Tail, which he survives (surprisingly). Another Flamethrower puts Aggron to red, Hapi hits another Air Slash on Toxapex. Aggron finishes Carnelian with a Low Kick (an interesting moveset on this one), and Hapi then tanks a Liquidation

Aggron gets healed, and then eats a Mach Punch and Flamethrower (should've just gone fro Close Combat here), Hapi tanks a Venoshock. While Toxapex gets healed, a Close Combat destroys Aggron, causing Hapi's Aura Sphere to hit Toxapex (and do basically nothing)

Close Combat one-shots Klinklang before it does anything, Rosso then levels up and learns Acrobatics, so that's cool. As a result, Hapi's Flamethrower hits Toxapex and again does basically nothing. Rosso is then floored by a Liquidation

Hapi hits an Air Slash, then Scarlet gets destroyed by a crit Liquidation, because Toxapex is somehow faster (ok this is not implausible, but still...)

Toxapex is (finally) felled by a crit Thunder Fang + an Air Slash

Flare Blitz + Flamethrower down Seviper

Alizarin burns Muk with a Flare Blitz, Hapi hits another Air Slash, then tanks an Ice Punch. Heat Wave + Aura Sphere end it

This result was a given tbh

Saki didn't stand a chance, as was to be expected. What was not expected was my team having to eat most of the attacks, and Melia only using the one mon...don't know what those two were doing honestly

Melia has brought Venam and me to Kristiline Town, for the 3 of us were invited here by the extremely suspicious Angie.

Mere steps into the town it becomes obvious that something is not right.

Okay so to start that Hail is going away. Vermilion must take a Cold Truth before bringing a Sunny Day. After taking another Cold Truth Vermilion's Lava Plume burns A-Ninetales and changes the field...to a factory I guess? Hmm. We survive a boosted Dazzling Gleam with critical health to KO with another (now not weakened) Lava Plume

Glaceon (somehow) survives a Flamethrower, then counters with Water Pulse, which doesn't do a whole lot after being weakened by the sun. The sun fades this turn. While Glaceon gets healed, Cerise goes for a Nasty Plot...so now to hell with you

And you as well. To hell with all of you.

This one is not weak to Fire, but it sure as hell is weak to Fighting. All Aurorus accomplished was resetting the Hail

Walrein survives a Close Combat before flooring Rosso with Surf

From here Walrein survives a field boosted Thunder Fang (how???) and drops Alizarin immediately with Surf (how????)

Walrein gets healed here while Cerise goes for Nasty Plot. Walrein eats a Flamethrower before claiming yet another KO with Surf

Burgundy lands a crit Thunder Fang, yet inexplicably misses the KO (honestly...). Surf is another one-shot

Vermilion's Lava Plume finally ends it

Another advantageous matchup, but it was of course made easier by my ability to fully remove her field advantage. Not a tough battle (ignoring Walrein personally erasing 4 of my 6 alone)

So the battle is won...but we're not in the clear yet.
