Shiny repeats?

So I know the shiny rate of the game is significantly increased... But the ONLY shiny pokemon I have seen are Ekans. At this point, I have run into 4 shiny Ekans and not a single other shiny pokemon. Is this just a bizarre coincidence, or is my game doomed to repeat itself over and over until I finally accept a team of golden snakes?

I say coincidence (If it isn't, i'm gonna laugh) . Just try to look for a shiny, in a place that there are no ekans. That's a good start (I think...)
