Gastly on Route 4

I managed to beat the Breloombot and got the Gastly to show up, but no matter how I chase it, it doesn't move to where I can catch it. Is there a trick to it?

It's a little tough to explain, but it generally tries to keep the shut down breelombot between you and it right? So what you need to do from there is go to one side of the bot (left works for me) and go up and down there (quickly), you end up cutting of the Ghastly all the time, and after a bit it freaks out and just goes all over the place, at which point you can interact with it, after catching up with it.

are you sure just going up and down works? it doesn't seem to work for me

You basically run back and forth like this:   
P X X         X X X       X G X  

X B X   --> P B G -->X B X     and repeat, if you do this quick and for a bit the Ghastly breaks of into the rest of the room
X G X         X X X       P X X
