A Horrendous Rejuvenation Discussion Thread™

Recommended Posts

If battlefield weather is a problem, then an alternative to packing weather-altering moves is to catch one of the Swablu in Sheridan Village and make sure its ability is Cloud Nine. Cloud Nine negates ALL effects of the weather, but does not prevent the weather itself. In other words, if you have a Cloud Niner in your party and send it out right at the beginning against Amaria, the sun that aided and abetted her in her battle against you will now only be able to witness her defeat firsthand at the hands (or limbs) of Pokemon such as Graveler, Numel and Croconaw (all Pokemon that I had on my last run). Not to mention that it can help you out against Valarie, if you have trouble with her (you probably won't) and Amber, if you have trouble with her (you most certainly will).

Also, Altaria can learn Perish Song at Level 46. Just saying.

I'll add these tips whenever there's a point in the game where weather is a problem! Thanks~

Also, how'd you know I'm a sucker for Perish Song? >w>

In other news: (y'know this is important cause it's in red and bolded)

I'll be away for about a month cause I have to study for a huge exam that'll probably decide my future. no big deal

So until the 20-ish of November, I won't be updating my guide. So yeah.

Don't worry, I'm not quiting, it'll be just some sort of hiatus. Although this hiatus involves me studying my ass off. (What is a physics.)

If someone wants to do an EvenMoreHorrendouslyWrittenGuide, they're free to do so!

Soo uhh, in the down time, you can maybe post some of your wild encounter lists here? So I don't have to run around bushes 24/7 when I come back.

I'm not forcing you to do it, but it'll be a huge help~

I'll also be posting this in the main guide too, soo yeah. See you guys in a month!

Oh yis, this is my moment to steal the opportunity to do the HorrendouslyWrittenGuideToReborn: The PresequeltmAnd subsequently get shamed away from the forum for my writing being utter shit and not holding up to yours, and show off my amazing comedic skillz while cockblocking you from ever doing the presequel yourself though at this rate you'll be finished with the Rejuv guide by 2019

So.... Permission to ruthlessly plagiarize your entire shtick?

Also i am very offended by the lack of you trying to make Jan's Bullshittm a thing

Now this, I must see.

Since I recently began to live in a cave got separated from internet access on a PC, I probably will not be able to update Reborn to E17 for another 2 months. Even so, I could probably give some team based advice, regarding what I've heard about the new fields that have been introduced. So, do let me know when the first part comes out.

Also i am very offended by the lack of you trying to make Jan's Bullshittm a thing

I have a feeling it will not be long before Jan's BullshitTM becomes the greatest thing since cooked food. Stay strong.

I'm back baby.

aka DespairSyn's Horrendous Little Update

So I came back and the Horrendous Discussion Thread got pinned. like me whenever I go Mercy against a Reinhardt

Yeah, that's pretty cool. One part of me is wondering why the Discussion Thread got pinned and not the guide itself and another part of me is feeling pressured because why did this get pinned i havent updated in like forever. omg help

Well, ok, I'm fine with this~. I still can't believe my horrendous little guide discussion thread is up there with the elites such as "Version 9 Status Thread" and "Where do I go next?" thread. I will humbly accept this honour. and the stress

So my exams are over. Well actually they aren't. There's like 3 papers left, but I have already lost the ability to give a shit so they're pretty much over.

Anyways, I'll be back to updating the guide by this week, I can't give a specific date but hopefully it'll be soon. I'm already working on the next part, just give me some time to catch up on the story.

I'll try and get a chapter up by this week to celebrate my return (=w=), but I just got Pokemon S&M (not that kind of S&M, silly) and I'm focusing on that first. New parts will probably be out quicker after I'm done with that.

Huh. That was shorter than I thought it'd be. So yeah. I'm back. Woot woot.

HUUUUZAAAAAHHHH

And because i stopped giving a shit about literally anything, I didn't nab that chance to steal the presequel of reborn from you. Too lazy to take mah rightous spot in the limelight.

Also PROTIP: If you don't have a water starter, take Aquanid (Because Water Bubble combined with mystic water gives you Quotro (multiplicative bonus, Bubble is applied before STAB is calculated) STAB and turns you into an OP god that can oneshot a lvl 100 arceus with a level 25 Aquanid) or a Toxapex, (Because poison spikes + Merciless = GG SON). Both these pokemon have absolutely ridiculous stats if you use their offensive ability well. Can't wait for them to be ported into Reborn in [3 years].

And god damn, Bug monoteams are going to be a LOT stronger after S&M is included. Jeebus those SM bugs are powerful. Between Vikavolt, Goliso "Escavalier 's a bitch" Pod and Aquanuke, along with those amazing UB's, that type sure as hell got some justice done to them.

Btw, what version do you think Ame has bought, folks? I hope its Moon, so she can throw her DS out of the window at supersonic speed when she finds out her beloved Ice + Fairy Ninetails is a Sun exclusive. Aaaahhh, thoughts like that, bring a tear of joy to my eye

Spoiler

If you want to, feel free to make that Horrendous™ PreSequel. Now's the most opportune chance I feel, what with the release of E16's Relationship Values and Chubby's hiatus.

Yeah, the bug types in S&M are crazy strong, but I took up my tradition of a mono-Ghost team, so sadly I never used any of them. (Only Ghost-Bug is fucking Shedinja, which nobody likes)

Also, as amusing as having Ame throw her DS out of a window is, I'm pretty sure she could just GTS a Vulpix and breed one.

Also, Part 9 is out wooooo. As always, I'm missing wild Pokemon and team data, so if anybody would contribute it would be much appreciated. And since I can't be on this thread 24/7, feel free to tag me by typing @despair and clicking on my name. StateOfTheArt™.

Speaking of StateOfTheArt™, this new forum kinda messed up the formatting of my guide. Notably, I have to type in the colors using hex codes now, instead of having colors to choose from a drop-down menu, so the colors in Part 9 will be slightly different than the other parts. I'll be sure to clean up the previous parts too as to make it more pleasing to the eye.

But for now, S&M, boyssss.

So now's the turn to do my job.

Amaria's remaining details:
- Ninetales also has Nasty Plot. Yes, only 3 moves.
- Ponyta also has Headbutt and Horn Drill (fuck Amaria)
- Magmar can also also use Confuse Ray and HP Grass (yes she can throw Hidden Power at you)
- Braixen also carries Attract and Protect.
- Carries at least two Super Potions.
- Fun fact: Her Abilities seem to be random, though with bias toward certain ones: I rolled Flash Fire Ninetales twice, which didn't help Amaria at all. I also rolled Magician Braixen and... Well, each Ability appeared at least once.

Like Revenant Keta, she doesn't have special slot for Intense Style, so her team is simply bumped in levels by 10%, rounded down.

Casual Style team info: Drops Ninetales, levels go 28->25 / 30->25 / 31->26. Other than that, it's the same.

Kingdra details: Has Swift Swim and also carries Rain Dance and Dragon Dance.

Rorrim B.'s details:
- Yanmega also carries Supersonic and Pursuit.
- Vivillon also has Shadow Hold (traps you), Shadow Mist (-2 to evasion) and Wish.
- Accelgor can also use Mega Drain, Swift and Agility.
- Wormadam's last move is Confusion.
- Abilities are random, as well. I rolled Frisk Yanmega.
- By the way, transforming into a Shadow Pokemon gives you the resistance to Shadow attacks. Might also give other Shadow mechanics, but I haven't seen them.

It's probably obvious but neither Kingdra nor Rorrim B. have special teams for other difficulties, so normal tactics apply (0.9x/1.1x levels and 1.3x/0.8x money).

About Flash - you can find Volbeat in the Purity Forest, which learns Flash naturally. You can either spare a Heart Scale (as Flash is all the way down in its moveset and is most likely forgotten by those wild Volbeat), or use Day Care. Day Care is open by now, right? If Jan programmed breeding correct, you can get around Volbeat's gender ratio by catching Illumise, as Illumise should be able to produce Eggs of both (similar to NidoranF; this also works with the male versions if one has a Ditto - right now we don't). Definitely easier and cheaper than getting it from casino, though it might take a while. Lv. 1 Volbeat will know Tackle and Flash. And once Rejuvenation adds Alola Pokémon, Jan might be merciful enough to give us the Alola shroom which also learns Flash on level.

Route 3 golden part: Butterfree/Pidgey/Doduo/Slakoth*/Chingling/Pansear/Venipede
*Part of Advanced Dex sidequest. Good luck; this fucker appears once in a blue moon.

Ren detailed:
- Prankster Sableye. Its last move is Recover.
- Houndour holds Charcoal and has Flash Fire. Its other moves are Incinerate, Feint Attack and Work Up.
- Scraggy holds Black Belt. Its other moves are Feint Attack, Smack Down and Headbutt.
- Prankster Murkrow. Its last move is Tailwind.
- Frogadier with Leftovers. Water Pulse/Smack Down/Round/Gunk Shot
- Scraggy and Frogadier Ability is random. The other three seem to be hardcoded, as they always have Prankster/Flash Fire no matter how many times I replay the battle.

Intense Style bumps up levels.

Casual Style changes are: Drops Sableye; Murkrow and Frogadier drop Thunder Wave and Gunk Shot, respectively (leaving them with only 3 moves); and levels are reduced: 32->26 / 32->27 / 32->27 / 33->29

Deep Sewers: Arbok/Grimer/Koffing/Weezing/Mightyena/Swalot/Woobat/Trubbish

Palace Gardens: Girafarig/Dunsparce/Makuhita/Happiny/Blitzle/Zebstrika; note that the only new Pokemon is Zebstrika and its an evolution so you're NOT losing anything forever. There are times where there are new Pokemon in locations you'll never return to, but Jan is not cruel enough to make them lost forever–they always appear sometime later.

Marianette:
REBORN STYLE
- Heliolisk has Dry Skin. Thunder Wave and Flash are its other moves. HP is Grass.
- Porygon2 is holding Silk Scarf. Its other moves are Flash, Psyshock and Shock Wave.
- Cincinno has Cute Charm. Its other moves are Rock Blast, Tail Slap and U-turn.
- Pyroar has Rivalry and holds Charcoal. Its other moves are Noble Roar and Snarl. HP is Psychic.
- Chatot has Keen Eye and holds Leftovers. Its other moves are Nasty Plot, Roost and HP Ground.
- Slaking has Multipulse and Retaliate as its other moves.

CASUAL STYLE
Unlike Keta, the changes are relatively simple. Drops half of the team (Cinccino, Slaking and Porygon2), and the remaining team levels go 30->29 / 32->30 / 33 -> 32.

INTENSE STYLE
- Lv. 34 Heliolisk @ Leftovers with Dry Skin. Thunder Wave/Thunderbolt/Flash/HP Grass. (30->34; Electroweb->Thunderbolt)
- Lv. 34 Chatot @ Leftovers with Keen Eye. Chatter/Nasty Plot/HP Ground/Heat Wave. (33->34; Roost->Heat Wave)
- Lv. 34 Porygon2  @ Silk Scarf with Trace. Flash/Psyshock/Hyper Beam/Thunderbolt. (32->34; Tri Attack->Hyper Beam, Shock Wave->Thunderbolt)
- Lv. 35 Cincinno @ Oran Berry with Cute Charm. Tail Slap/Rock Blast/Bullet Seed/U-turn. (31->35; Sitrus Berry->Oran Berry.  Yes, a downgrade)
- Lv. 34 Pyroar @ Charcoal with Rivalry. HP Psychic/Flamethrower/Crunch/Noble Roar. (32->34; Incinerate->Flamethrower, Snarl->Crunc).
- Lv. 37 Slaking @ Leftovers with Truant. Gunk Shot/Earthquake/Night Slash/Giga Impact (34->37; Multipulse->Gunk Shot; Retaliate->Giga Impact)
Ironically, she uses her signature move only in Reborn Style. Also, it seems like the only Trainers that carry specific teams for Intense Style are Gym Leaders, by the way. Other Trainers just get the generic changes.

also you might want to pick up that TM from mansion-turned-shack. IIRC it's Facade, one of the few good TMs you can get this early.

For reference: Shadow Hold is a move. It's like Mean Look, but I think it hits adjacent opponents rather than just one Pokemon? Not that it matters as double battles are rare here. Either way, Shadow Pokemon always have random Ability as I am fairly sure that, except of few differences, they're generated probably like wild Pokemon (hell, in Colosseum you could end up with a Shiny Shadow Pokemon... though you would need to luck out another 1/8192 roll if you wanted it to stay Shiny, as it will roll again for your ID when you snag it. On the other hand, the opposite is also true - it might suddenly turn Shiny after you snag it).

Also, I think you've overwritten some details on Marianette's Pokemon (like Sitrus Berry on Cinccino or Dry Skin on Heliolisk).

acerola is a cinnamon roll you have good taste in trial captains

I've always said that the only thing good about the xenophobes in Goldenleaf is their choice of Pokemon type (Ghost being my second favourite)

Now, down to business.

Some more things to know about the Haunted Field:

Dark and Fairy type moves are nerfed. This shouldn't be too much of a problem if you've got a bulky or speedy offensive Ghost type (probably why Jan didn't add in the Gengar line).

The field can be switched back from the Blessed Field easily by Narcissa's signature move, Ghostly Wail. This, coupled with Xatu's weakness to Ghost, is why I wouldn't recommend a field manipulation strategy here.

Moves like Flame Charge, Flame Burst, Fire Spin and Inferno deal additional Ghost type damage. It may be to your advantage to pack these moves.

Also, for your own sanity, before you get to the point where you have to fight Angie, make sure you have multiple, viable Pokemon that can defeat Ice types.

My last time, my only answers to Ice types were an Escavalier(which outspeeds almost nothing, btw) and a Magmar with a Jolly nature. Finally, I decided to hightail it to Carotos mountain, obtain the Cyndaquil egg, train it up and use Typhlosion's Eruption to even out the odds slightly.

I'll be sure to add your info once I reach Narcissa! And for your Angie tip, it's already too late. I got destroyed by her on my first playthrough and I'm a lot more cautious of her this time around. Never underestimate Ice types.

Anyways the next chapter is out! Sorry it took so long, I was having Christmas holidays with my family. Did nothing but play Town of Salem with my cousins for a week.

I haven't cleaned up the previous chapters yet cause I'm lazy busy, but I'll get around to it. I hope.

Im not sure if you missed this or something but after the fight with the xenophobic thugs that ambush you outside the pokecenter a pangoro shows up and decides to throw two of the thugs into oblivion and have the last one pee his pants and run for dear life.

Im not sure if you missed this or something but after the fight with the xenophobic thugs that ambush you outside the pokecenter a pangoro shows up and decides to throw two of the thugs into oblivion and have the last one pee his pants and run for dear life.

I left that bit out. It's a lot funnier if you don't see it coming. :^)

Alright, great guide! However, there is something to note about the Goldenleaf Gym: If you look closely, you'll see seemingly-insignificant objects on the walls, usually near doors. Those are in fact torches/braziers. What I did is go to whichever torch is lit (with a blue flame). If it's next to a door, then go through that door. Just look for and follow the torches and you should get through. DO NOT GO THROUGH DOORS WITHOUT LIT TORCHES

WHAT WITCHCRAFT IS THIS

Also, about the upcoming Gym battle, the field is an Ocean Field.

The Ocean Field boosts the offensive capabilities of Water types to giddy heights and Valarie makes full use of it with her signature move, Tidal Wave. But this field offers the player a unique advantage as well.

Owing to the increased conduction velocity of electric charges in a polar solvent like liquid hydrogen dioxide (What is a physics, indeed), Special Electric type moves are also powered up.

Also, the Water type offensive will all but falter in the face of a Heliolisk with Dry Skin. Not only does it benefit from the Dry Skin recovery effect of the field as well as the rain, but the Ocean Field also renders ALL Ground type moves ineffective. Heliolisk also makes for a good special sweeper with various coverage options such as Surf & Grass Knot.
