Rise of the Lampads (A Fire/Fairy Duotype run)

Lord Chespin

Recommended Posts

Hello, and welcome to my second Rejuvenation Challenge run, after my water-type challenge run! I decided to use two types this time around, using the two types voted on the most by you guys. In case you're wondering why I'm using two types, it's because this game gave me hell even in normal mode, so I'm trying to maximize my chances of completing it (and frankly, I don't want to fight Valerie with a mono-fire team). So, without further ado, say hi to our protagonist, Hecate, daughter of Pop Idol Nancy who one day aspires to be a fire-type gym leader but also wants to use fairy types in honor of her mother!

Here are the rules:

1) I can only use Fairy-type or Fire-type Pokemon.

2) I have to beat all impossible bosses. With Madame X, I only have to defeat her Yveltal.

3) I have to defeat all optional bosses (Ex. the Dimensional Rift Chandelure, the fused Solrock and Lunatone, etc.)

In addition, we have the team so far:

392.pngGoku (Male) - Lv. 40

683.pngMichael (Male) - Lv. 40

122.pngNim (Female) - Lv. 40

702.pngMickey (Male) - Lv. 40

668-f.pngHathor (Female) - Lv. 39

323.pngVesuvius (Female) - Lv. 40

We also have the Pokemon in the PC:

058.pngPiper (Female) - Lv. 25

324.pngShelly (Female) - Lv. 24

684.pngCupcake (Female) - Lv. 27

703.pngKarat (Non-Binary) - Lv. 38

And finally, we have the major bosses:

130-m.pngDimensional Rift Gyrados (Defeated!)

336.pngVenam (Defeated!)

448.pngKeta (Body) (Defeated!)

150.pngShadow Mewtwo (Defeated!)

701.pngKeta (Soul) (Defeated!)

289.pngMarianette (Defeated!)

429.pngNarcissa (Defeated!)

Spr_3r_000.pngMadame X's Yveltal (undefeated)

Spr_3r_000.pngValerie (udefeated)

Spr_3r_000.pngCrawli (undefeated)

Spr_3r_000.pngAngie (undefeated)

Spr_3r_000.pngAmber (undefeated)

Oh, and before you ask, no, this won't interfere with my Electric monotype in Pokemon Uranium. When one run gets too stressful, I'll switch to the other for a while, and vice-versa.

Wish me luck! ('_')7

Edit: Whoops, almost forgot this run's theme song!

Update #1: 420 Blaze It

So, the tutorial battles against Amaria and Ren were actually a little tricky. I led with Goku the Chimchar (I was going to get an Eevee for a starter, but after about an hour or so of soft-resetting I began to lose the will to live, so I stopped) and Amaria led with Fennekin. Fennekin kicked Goku's burning butt the first time around, but after one soft-reset he was able to take it down with a leer and a flurry of scratches. Ren came up next, but Goku, who outleveled it at this point, managed to take it down with three scratches after leering at it. With all of them down, it's time to explore the city, get a Litleo and Growlithe, and pray that I can take down a Gyrados with just three Pokemon... goodie goodie gumdrops...

Update #2: Canine Conundrum

URRRRRRRGH. The RK9 Gang was HELL, especially since I only had one Pokemon. The gang led with a single Growlithe, and I led with Goku, now a Monferno! Goku took out the Growlithe with three mach punches, only taking an ember and a leer in return. Then came the Arcanine, and everything pretty much went to hell. After using seven Chinese Foods and spamming mach punch for what felt like an eternity, Goku finally managed to take out the Arcanine. All that stood in my way was the last Growlithe, and it went down pretty quickly to three mach punches, earning me my second team member: Piper the Growlithe! (I named her after my own dog). And so, with the dogs vanquished, it's time to track down our final team member prior to the first gym: Litleo!

The moral of this story? Never stand in the way of a man with tons of determination, a Monferno, and tons of Chinese Food.

Litleo is also going to be hell to get since you have to defeat a tough trainer with a full team

Anyway, remember, you can always use this for reference on what to catch! However, some of it is inaccurate, since it's still updating... http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14330

Thanks! Honestly, I doubt Litleo's going to be as much of a tough time, since if I recall correctly Monferno has a type advantage against half of her team.

Update #3: HARDCORE METAL GEAR!

I led with Goku, and the Hardcore Trainer led with Helioptile. It went down from a single mach punch, so she sent out her next Pokemon, Butterfly Satan Vivillion... which also went down to a single hit, this time a flame wheel. So far, so good. The Hardcore Trainer sent out her Hawlucha next, and I switched out for Piper. The Hawlucha kept spamming powerful karate chops and wing attacks, but ultimately (and with the help of an oran berry and a super potion) managed to take it down with a nonstop barrage of embers! The Hardcore Trainer's ace, Eevee, came out next, and I sent Goku back out. Goku took the Eevee out with two mach punches, only taking a single shadow ball in return! Unfortunately, he became overleveled. It didn't really matter, however, because when the ace trainer's Vulpix came out, he managed to be obedient enough to 2HKO it with two flame wheels. All that sttod between me and Litleo from that point was her Poochyena... and Goku, despite ignoring orders, still used a mach punch on it, OHKOing it! Let's welcome to the team Hathor the Litleo, and hope she pulls her weight as well as the rest of the team!

Update #4: Shut Up, You Pile of S#!%

Well, this may be because I was overleveled, but I think that the Garbodor battle was a little underwhelming. I led with Hathor, Ren led with Murkrow, and the Garbodor Gang led with the two Trubbish. Hathor and Murkrow ganged up on the Trubbish and took it down to the red, but both of them got poisoned by a poison gas, and Hathor got whacked with a pound. Fortunately, the next turn Hathor managed to finish off the weakened Trubbish with an ember, getting a moxie boost in the process. She got hit by another pound from the remaining Trubbish, but she still shrugged it off, and Murkrow retaliated with a pursuit. Hathor did serious damage to the Garbodor with a headbutt, seriously weakening it as well as making it flinch; thanks to Murkrow using astonish on the Trubbish, it flinched too, meaning the only damage Hecate's side took was poison damage. Hathor once again did massive damage to the Garbodor with a headbutt, but Murkrow came in with a kill steal and took out the Garbodor with a pursuit; it was probably for the best, though, since Murkrow got slammed by aftermath damage. With Garbodor down, the poor remaining Trubbish was only able to get off one last pound before Hathor finished it off with a headbutt. With the Garbodor Gang down, it's time to head to Goldenwood Forest and fight Melia!

Update #5: One-Course Melia

Well, Melia was tricky, but not too bad. I led with Piper, and Melia led with Doduo. Doduo got off a rage, but it only did scratch damage, and Piper took it out with two embers. Eevee came out next, and OH GOD IT KNOWS MUD-SLAP. Fortunately, it didn't do too much damage, and despite getting mud-slapped a couple times and getting her attack lowered with a couple baby-doll eyes, she managed to shrug it off and land enough embers to take it out. Melia sent out her Minccino next, but I switched out to Goku, and he quickly took it down with a mach punch. Anticlimactic, I know, but it knew aqua tail, so I didn't want to risk anything. Melia then sent out her Teddiursa, and I sent Piper back out. Piper tanked two licks and fired off two embers, burning it in the process! Teddiursa went down to burn damage, and Melia decided to take off the kid gloves and sent out her ace, Happiness the Togepi. Piper got off an ember, but got smacked with a yawn, so I switched her out for Hathor so she wouldn't fall asleep. Hathor got hit by an echoed voice, but shrugged it off and took Togepi out with a headbutt, ending the fight! And so, Melia and I walk off to head back to Gearen City... Huh? Oh, hi, Absol! Wait, what was that explosion?

...And Team Xen invades the forest. And Melia flips a guy over a mountain. Woo, Melia!

Update #6: Hey I'm Farst, I'm Not So Farst

The battle against Eli and Sharon was pretty tough, but I think it went pretty well. I led with Piper, and Sharon and Eli led with Lunatone. Piper put up a good fight with a nonstop stream of embers, but ultimately she fell to a few rock throws and a confusion. With Piper down, I sent out Hathor, and she got off a headbutt... only to get confused by a confusion. Crud. She then proceeded to hurt herself in her confusion, giving Sharon and Eli a free turn to heal their Pokemon. She then hurt herself again, and was left with only four hit points left after Lunatone fired off anther confusion. The next turn, she finally managed to get off a headbutt, but it was too little, too late, as Lunatone finished her off with a rock throw. I decided to play my trump card and sent out Goku, who ended the Lunatone with one final mach punch. With Lunatone down, all the duo had left was their Solrock, which only managed to fire off a few psywaves before fainting to a barrage of mach punches. Time to confront Zetta about his little intrusion into Goldenwood Forest!

Update #7: Dimensional Throwdown

Well, Zetta alone wasn't too bad, but defeating him while trying to make sure your Pokemon don't faint was a little tricky. I led with Piper, and he led with Murkrow. Murkrow got off a peck and a pursuit, but Piper managed to shrug it off and took it out with three embers. Zetta's Weezing came out next, and I sent out Hathor. Desite getting poisoned by a smog, she managed to hold on long enough to take it down with three embers. Zetta decided to send out his shadow Duskull, and I sent out Shadow Tympole. (Yes, I know using hadow Pokemon is kind of cheating, but I didn't really have a choice.) The two traded shadow waves, and eventually the Duskull went into the second Great Ball I threw at it. With Duskull out of commission, Zetta sent out his ace, Sneasel. It went down from a single mach punch. How anticlimactic. Oh well; time for the real challenge: the Dimensional Gyrados!

...I am so not looking forward to this...

058.pngPiper (Female) - Lv. 18

Update #8: Gyra-D'OH-s

Well, that went better than expected. I led with Piper, and the Dimensional Rift led with the Gyrados. Piper tried getting off a couple embers in an attempt to burn the Gyrados, but only did chip damage before fainting to a dimensional thrash. Hathor came out next, but she fainted before she could even do anything. Goku came up next, but he fainted after only firing off a mach punch. With Goku down, I sent out the Shadow Duskull... and things began to turn in my favor. Duskull managed to tank an ice fang and got off two shadow waves before fainting, taking a huge chunk out of the Gyrados' healh! Shadow Tympole came out next, and managed to carry out the kill with a mighty shadow wave!

...and yet nothing changes, story-wise. (sigh) Jan, could you change that?

The team so far:

391.pngGoku (Male) - Lv. 20

058.pngPiper (Female) - Lv. 18

Update #9: D-O-G-A-R-S

Well, Venam was kind of easy, but I may have just gotten lucky. I led with Hathor, and Venam led with her newly-caught Trubbish. Trubbish only got off a single Venam's kiss before fainting to two headbutts, leading to Venam sending out her Quilfish. Unlike my previous attempt, in which Qwilfish was able to get off a seriously-damaging water pulse, Qwilfish flinched from a headbutt, then went down to a second headbutt. With Quilfish down, Venam sent out her Grimer. Grimer once again flinched, and despite Venam's use of a potion the next turn, it still fell to a mighty headbutt. Hathor, now a mighty moxie-boosted killing machine, proceeded to tank a Venam's kiss from her Whirlipede, then took it out with two headbutts. Venam's ace, Seviper, came out... and flinched, going down from two headbutts before she could even get any attacks off. Kind of anticlimactic, eh? Anyway, all that remained was her Stunky, but Hathor had become overleveled from defeating Seviper, so I switched out to Goku. He went super sayian, tanked a Venam's kiss, and proceeded to wipe the Stunky off of the map with a mach punch and a flame wheel. And so, Hecate earns the PoisonHeart Badge! Time to rescue Melia and make some new friends along the way!

Update #10: Thug Life

Well, Karrina wasn't too bad. I led with PIper, and Karrina led with Vullaby. Piper tanked a critical-hit air slash and a gust, then proceeded to unleash a mighty stream of embers, taking out the buzzard baby. Karrina sent out her Audino next, and I switched out to Goku, who mach punched the Audino, and then got locked into an encore... of the one move I had that was super effective against it. Bravo, ten points to Gryffindor. Anyway the Audino was only able to get off one charge beaam before Goku took it out with two more mach punches. Up next came Karrina's Grovyle, and I once again sent out Piper. The Grovyle set up an agility and slammed Piper with an energy ball, but Piper managed to hold on with just three hit points remaining, and then retaliated with an ember, KOing the Grovyle! All that remained was Karrina's Venonat, and Piper did serious damage to it with an ember; sadly, she fainted from a bug bite that same turn. A very angry Hathor came out the next turn and unleashed a devastating ember, finishing off the Venonat and earning Hecate the TM for Rock Smash! Time to head to Route 2!

Update #11: Nim-esis

Well, Nim was harder than I expected. I led with two of our newest teammates- Michael the Spritzee and Cupcake the Swirlix- and Nim led with her Solrock and Lunatone. Poor Cupcake fainted from a rock slide and a confusion before she could do anything, but Michael managed to dodge the rock slide and set up a calm mind. I sent out our other newest team member- Mickey the Dedenne- and he paralyzed the Solrock and tanked an ancientpower while Michael did serious damage with a fairy wind. Mickey then tanked another ancientpower (which, unfortunately, raised all of the Lunatone's stats) and paralyzed the Lunatone with a Nuzzle, while Michael left the Solrock with just a teensy bit of health remaining and endured another psywave. Mickey then injured everyone on the field with a parabolic charge, taking out the Solrock and taking a sizable dent out of the Lunatone's health; sadly, he wasn't able to heal enough health back to survive a confusion from Lunatone, leading to his demise. With Mickey down, I sent out Goku, but he was only able to get off a single mach punch before fainting to a confusion; Nim, meanwhile, sent out her Espurr, which almost knocked out Michael with a psybeam. I sent out Hathor next, and she managed to take a rather large chunk out of the Espurr's health. Unfortunately, Espurr knocked out Michael with a psybeam, leaving me with only Hathor and Piper. Luckily, the tide started to turn the next turn, as Piper and Hathor were able to knock out both Espurr and Lunatone, respectively, with an ember and a headbutt. With the two of them down, Nim sent out her last Pokemon, Inkay... and it went down to a headbutt and an ember without much fanfare. Time to head on out to Amethyst Cave and stop Zetta!

Update #12: Too Zetta Slow

Well, Zetta was underwhelming. I led with our newest team member- Karat the Carbink- while Venam led with Whirlipede and Zetta led with Sneasel and Croagunk. Whirlipede managed to one-shot Zetta's Sneasel with a bug bite, and Karat set up stealth rocks while Croagunk got off a feint attack on Whirlipede. With his Sneasel down, Zetta sent out his Absol (whicch got damaged by the stealth rocks), which smacked Whirlipede with a feint attack... and got poisoned, and then walloped with a Venam's kiss. Bravo, Zetta. Anyway, Croagunk did minor damage to Whirlipede with a feint attack, and Karat ended the Absol with a smack down. Zetta sent out his Quilladin next, and it managed to set up a leech seed before getting slammed with a Venam's Kiss, and Karat set up a leech seed while Croagunk did pitiful damage with a revenge. Quilladin did serious damage to Karat with a mega drain, but Karat survived with tons of health to spare and Venam ended it with a Venam's kiss. With Quilladin down, all that remained was Zetta's Croagunk, which went down fast to a barrage of smack downs, Venam's kisses, and venoshocks. With Zetta down, all that stands in my way is the Dimensional Rift... here we go!

The team so far:

Update #13: Arachnophobia

Well, the Dimensional Rift Galvantula was harder than expected. I led with Karat, Venam led with Whirlipede, and the Dimensional Rift led with two Joltik. I had Karat set up stealth rocks, while the Joltik attacked with an electroweb and a fury cutter on Karat and Venam did massive damage to the weaker of the two Joltik with a Venam's kiss. The next turn, Venam ended the weakened Joltik with another Venam's kiss while Karat got hit with a gastro acid and a bug bite, then retaliated with a smack down. The big guns came out next, as the DImensional Rift Galvantula stormed in with a vengeance and did serious damage to Karat with a bug bite and an electroweb while the other Joltik suppressed Whirlipede's ability and swung away with an electroweb (which, fortunately, missed Karat). The two stood their ground, however, and Whirlipede took out the Joltik with a Venam's kiss and injured the next one that came out with a venoshock while Karat wailed away at the Galantula with smack down after smack down. The two ulltimately fainted to a second electroweb by the Galvantula, but they managed to take a huge hunk out of Galvantula's health. I sent Piper out next, but she fainted from a single electroweb by the Galvantula. Unfortunately, Venam's Weezing didn't fare much better, fainting almost instantly as well. Hathor and Venam's Seviper came out next, and together they managed to take out the Galvantula with a fire fang and two Venam's kisses (although Hathor fainted before Seviper managed to carry out the kill; RIP experience). Venam's Seviper went down the next turn, though leaving me stuck fighting a two-on-one battle. Cupcake went down from the combined efforts of the two remaining Joltik, but Goku managed to finish off both of them with two flame wheels, ending the fight! With Zetta disposed of, it's time to finally head to Sheridan Village!

Update #14: My Body Is Ready

Well, the Keta battle was close, but I think it went pretty well. I led with Karat, and Keta led with his Hawlucha. Hawlucha did chip damage with an aerial ace and Karat set up stealth rocks, but then Hawlucha took him down with a forest-boosted gale strike. I took off the kid gloves and unleashed Mickey, Destroyer of Worlds, and he began spamming parabolic charge, healing off two brick breaks and making Keta waste his super potion before finally taking out the overused wrestler hawk. With the Hawlucha down, Keta sent out his Pignite. Mickey charmed it, causing its already-not-very-effective gale strike to do even less damage, even if it did raise his attack. Mickey kept spamming parabolic charge, healing off damage from another gale strike, but then the Pignite got crafty and began using rock tomb and flame charge, allowing it to outspeed Mickey; luckily, when Keta stopped to use a super potion, Mickey managed to land a critical hit with parabolic charge, allowing him to not only take a huge chunk out of Pignite's health but allowing him to heal back enough health to survive a crit-boosted thunder punch and a third gale strike! He even managed to make Keta use up his third and final potion, and just barely hung on with five hit points to defeat the Pignite! Since he was so weak, I switched out to Michael, and Keta sent out his Machoke. Michael set up a calm mind, tanked a rock slide and two thunder punches, and then annihilated the Machoke with two draining kisses; sadly, he was paralyzed by the thunder punch. Keta sent out his Gurdurr next, and despite his paralysis, I kept Michael on the field. The two began recycling each other's health with a flurry of drain punches and draining kisses, but ultimately Michael won out, recovering all of his health in the process! Keta sent out his ace, Lucario, which was shiny. Impressive! Slightly less impressive was Keta's decision to have it use ice punch, of all moves, on Piper (who I switched Michael out for). This backfired on it when Piper managed to burn it with an ember. She did get taken out by an aura sphere the next turn, but Goku, who I sent out next, managed to just barely tank an aura sphere and took it down with two mach punches. With Lucario down, Keta sent out his last Pokemon: Medicham. I switched Goku out for Cupcake, but she fainted after two thunder punches; fortunately, she managed to get off a fake tears before fainting, allowing Michael to... get immobilized by paralysis, do nothing, and faint. (sigh) Running out of options, I sent out Mickey again, and he managed to tank a thunder punch and take down the Medicham with two parabolic charges! And so, Hecate earns the Diamond Punch Badge... or she would, if Keta hadn't run off. Time to follow him!

Update #15: Sha-D'OH

Well, Shadow Mewtwo went down easier than I expected. I led with Karat, and he set up a reflect while tanking a shadow fire with roughly half of his health left. He then got off a smack down and survived a shadow blast, holding on with about a sliver of health left. Fortunately, Shadow Mewtwo went into hyper mode, causing it to start hurting itself! From there on out, it was just a manner of force-feeding Karat super potions, Chinese food, and soda pops until the Mewtwo eventually collapsed from self-inflicted injuries!

...and yet this was even less rewarding than the Dimensional Rift Gyrados, because at least with that I got some experience! Seriously, Jan, why?!

Update #16: Shoot the Dog... er, Volcanion

Well, Volcanion was a lot harder than I remembered. I led with Michael, and he managed to tank a magnet bomb and do serious damage with a smack down! Karat MVP! Sadly, he fainted the next turn to a water pulse... and, well, that pretty much set the tone for the whole battle. I'm not sure if Volcanion has mega launcher or something, but a water pulse from it is practically a one-hit kill. Anyway, with Karat dow, I switched out for Cupcake, who slowed down the Volcanion with a cotton spore, and then lowered its special defense with a fake tears before fainting. I sent Michael out next, and he did serious damage with an echoed voice; unfortunately, the Volcanion got smart and used flame charge, allowing it to outspeed Michael and take him out with two water pulses. Luckily, it wasn't fast enough to outspeed Hathor, and she managed to take the Volcanion down with a headbutt that pierced the heavens... or at least that orb-thingie on Volcanion's back. And so, with Volcanion dead and the Xen base in ruins, it's time to keep our promise to Keta's soul and meet him in Amethyst Grotto!

Update #17: Soul Eater I really need to watch that show...

Well, Keta was tricky but I think it went pretty well. I led with Michael, and Keta's Soul led with Primeape. Michael tanked a thunder punch, then retaliated with a mighty field-boosted draining kiss that did massive damage to the Primeape and healed back all the damage he took. He led off another draining kiss after Keta healed Primeape with a super potion, but then fainted because I'm an idiot and used calm mind instead of going for the kill with a draining kiss. Luckily, one of our newer team members, Nim the Mr. Mime, managed to tank a thrash and finished off Primeape with a psybeam! Keta's Soul sent out his Hitmontop next, but it idiotically used counter instead of finishing Nim off with any other attack, allowing Nim to trap it in counter with an encore, giving her time to heal up and set up a reflect before she finished it off with a psybeam. Keta's Soul sent out his Pangoro next, but Cupcake (who I switched out Nim for) managed to tank a feint attack and a night slash, then set up a fake tears and one-shot the panda with a fairy wind. Keta's Soul decided to stop messing around and sent out his ace, Hawlucha, so I decided to up my game and sent out Mickey, Destroyer of Worlds (that's his name from now on, guys). Mickey took a wing attack with stride and paralyzed the Hawlucha with a nuzzle, then finished it off with a parabolic charge and a volt switch! Keta's Soul, running out of options, decided to send out his Scrafty, which went down pretty similarly to his Pangoro: fake tears, dodge a counter, fairy wind, ???, profit. Anyway, all that remained was Keta's Sawk. It got off a brick break, set up a bulk up, and let loose a reversal; Nim, however, had the type advantage, tanking hits like a boss while setting up a reflect and letting loose two psybeams, taking the Sawk down! And so, Hecate earns the Diamond Punch Badge (for real this time!) and Keta can finally rest in peace...

Update #18: BURN! BURN! BURN TO THE GROUND!

Well, Amaria was a lot harder than I remembered. I led with one of our newer team members- Vesuvius the Numel- and Amaria led with her Ninetales. Vesuvius tanked two incinerates with just eight hit points remaining, and unleashed a barrage of earth powers, doing serious damage to Ninetales and even making Amaria use up her super potions! With her Ninetails running low on health, Amaria switched it out for her Ponyta, which just barely survived an earth power and took down the weakened Vesuvius with a headbutt. Karat, however, decided xe wasn't having any of Ponyta's s#@% and came out swinging, shrugging off a flame charge and taking the Ponyta out with a smack down. Amaria's Magmar came out next, and it did a surprising amount of damage to Karat with a hidden power, prompting me to switch xyr out for Nim, who tanked a hidden power much better, survived a thunder punch with 23 hit points to spare, and (despite being confused) took the Magmar down with two psybeams! Amaria sent out her ace, Braixen, next, and I sent out Hathor; sadly, she was only able to get off two headbutts before fainting to a flurry of psybeams. I sent out Michael next, but he did even worse, only missing a sweet kiss before fainting. Goku did better, getting off two mach punches, but ultimately fainted to a flurry of psybeams. Fortunately, Nim managed to outspeed the Braixen and take it down with a psybeam, leading to Amaria sending out her last, weakened Pokemon: Ninetales! Poor Nim fainted before she could take out the Ninetails, but Karat (who I spent a turn healing) managed to tank several incinerates and finished Ninetales off with two smack downs! ANd so, we head on out to Route 3! What adventures await us next?
