  1. Currently in reborn, being subjected to Torment causes a Pokémon's move to fail if it used the same move the previous turn. For example, a Pokémon using Dig after being subjected to Torment will successfully dig down, but fail to actually execute the move on the second turn, and a tormented Pokémon using Outrage will become locked into the move and then fail to execute it on the second turn.

This is not how the move Torment works in the main series. In the main series, Torment only restricts move selection, not move execution. Thus, a tormented Pokémon will be able to successfully execute Dig, but will be unable to select Dig again the turn after it finishes digging. Likewise, Outrage will successfully execute on all the turns where the user is locked in and no move selection occurs. I suspect that this is a bug and not an intended change from the main series' mechanics.

  2. Title. I know anomaly battles can have weird / illegal movesets, but I wanted to check that this was intentional given that there's a minor plot point in the heatran quest's dialogue earlier about volcanion not being able to surf lol (also Ame asked me to report this as a bug)

  3. See attached screenshot. This occurs, for example, when mega kangaskhan uses sucker punch and it fails, or when it uses power-up punch or return on a ghost type (under normal conditions). The error shows up right after the "but it failed!" or "it didn't affect ___" message, but once I close out of the error dialog, the battle proceeds normally.

    Specific things I tested:

-Occurs both when I own the mega kangaskhan and when the opponent does

-Occurs in both single and double battles, and regardless of who I'm targetting in a double battle

-Does not occur with non-mega evolved kangaskhan

-As far as I could tell, does not occur when the move doesn't fail

I suspect it's specifically a bug with parental bond attempting to repeat a move that failed.

  4. This is a neat narrative so far! Just posting to say that the reason Fern's Sandile doesn't have Bite is that Plates of Arceus uses gen 8 level-up movesets (where it learns Bite at level 15) instead of gen 7 ones where possible, and Fern's Sandile has its default level-up moveset at this point. This doesn't normally come up in a Plates of Arceus playthrough because Fern's Sandile is replaced by an altform one that's water type (and thus can actually do things against lunatone/solrock), but since you're playing with the altforms turned off... yeah.

Same thing with the Scraggies (Scraggys?) not having low kick (they actually learn it too early to still know it at these levels), but there's no altform-related excuse there.

  5. In math we have a super advanced technique called "ignoring all the floor and ceiling functions for the sake of simplicity." Doing that, and also ignoring the +5 because it's insignificant in most cases at high levels, we're just looking at how much we need to increase [IV] to multiply (2*[Base] + [IV] + [EV]/4) by 1.1. For example, if we want to ask the question, "at what value of the base stat does beneficial nature + 16 IVs become better than neutral nature and 31 IVs," assuming max EVs in that stat, you just do (2*[Base] + 16 + 63) * 1.1 = (2*[Base] + 31 + 63), which yields [Base] = 35.5. So, basically everything except certain stats on chanseys, blisseys, shuckles, and so forth.

Also yes what R.B said about nature being easily mutable in this game while IVs are by default fixed for life (though that'll probably change with the postgame).

  6. I'm pretty sure Taka's the one whose dad hired someone to have him, not Luna? And Taka's not a person in real life (unfortunately :( well, fortunately I guess in one sense). I remember reading that the Radomus/El custody battle over Luna was real, though as usual I'm not sure how much to trust what the RPers claim is real in cases like this.

    Also uhhh...

Adrienn.. gives me the creeps. Our first encounter with him he buds into business that isn't his and tries to steal from strangers. Sorry but whatever lies Elias told him, it's pretty clear who's in the wrong and who's in the right, given what happened. I haven't liked him since then.

Second, how am I supposed to know what pronouns you identify as?! No need to get snippy mate, we've just met. Literally JKUST met. Third, no one - NO ONE is THAT good a person.. Nu-uh, I'm calling secret Meteor super-villain or something. Just wait and see. Gives me the creeps. Given how liked he is though that is definitely going to be "an accident."

It's... maybe concerning that someone using unusual pronouns is a reason for you to want to kill them? The bit about what pronouns Adrienn wanted used for xemself wasn't even directed at your character; it was directed at Cain, who'd explicitly asked what pronouns he should address xem with. (And Adrienn did follow that up with "I think we've got more pressing concerns right now.") Adrienn doesn't even strike me as the kind of person who'd be particularly upset if you (unknowingly) used the wrong pronouns. The other reasons you give are valid though, at least for disliking someone, though I find killing someone for that / some suspicions pretty extreme.

  7. Yeah the wiki has the wrong info for a lot of trainers' nature/IV/EV spreads (I think random nature 10 IVs no EVs is the default if no info is added or something), but you can see the correct info on Fern's own wiki page in this case, at least:

No it is not, as not even Reborn, as up to this moment, expects you to be only using certain pokemon in every battle. In fact the completed dex up to 7 is listed as a feature of the game, so yes if it came to that point it would indeed be a flaw. Character select forcing in general is a flaw. Like it or not there is more to Reborn than a difficult game. if you want nothing but hyper competitive battles Pokemon Showdown and Smogon already has you covered for now and the optional Nightclub is coming in the next update.

Its what they, back when they were in everyone's good graces, originally upheld to the point of having a Elite 4 member professing it in Gen 2.

I don't think what reborn expects really factors into whether something is a self-imposed challenge. Something is a self-imposed challenge if it 1) introduces a restriction not required by the game, and 2) makes some of the content harder than it would be without that restriction. If one's faves are all ghost types, for example, then "playing only with one's faves" is a strictly (unless all ghost types are one's faves) more restrictive and challenging condition than a ghost monotype run.

Of course, flexibility in teambuilding is a very good feature, but I think more in the sense of "you can make a lot of different Pokemon and team compositions work" than in the sense of "literally any Pokemon you like can be made to shine in any battle" -- the latter just hinders the design of challenging opponents way too much.

  9. Hi! Really enjoying the story and details in this game so far. I'm not sure if this is a bug, but the hide and seek location in skating rink seems to be inaccessible (it's in a pillar that you can't stop at in the ice sliding puzzle). Maybe I'm missing something? I did go get the umbreon zodiac reward just to make sure I was looking at the right pillar.

EDIT: Also, something weird just happened: I flew back to Premoggin Softlands after just getting to Liliech city, and the battle mall opening cutscene happened again... along with the barker battle afterwards. I reset before I went any further, but hopefully this doesn't break anything important?

  10. Hi folks! Made an account just to say that this is an amazing game so far. A few minor questions:

    1) Is an ice stone (or some means of evolving Alolan Sandshrew) currently available? If so, where can I find one? Feel like I've checked every rock on Silver Rise for hidden items, haha.

    2) Is there documentation for the new field effects that don't appear in Reborn, like the cloud field? I got caught by surprise when my stealth rocks didn't work in Aderyn's gym; managed to beat it by brute force / some paralysis luck, but it'd be neat to know how to exploit the field myself (e.g. how to turn it into a different field, what moves get boosts) if something like it comes up again.

    Thanks!
