Just going through the early bits of the game, and one thing that stuck out as annoying in the game is that it forces you to go through three trainer battles in a row with only one pokemon, and only an Oran Berry for healing. Depending on what your starter is, you'll end up being knocked out just because you can't heal all that much in between battles.
For reference, I started off with Ducklett (felt like it fit with the female main character's design) and fought against the Mercenary on the plane. Lost because the Yungoos seemed to have an ability that made it's first attack super-effecti
