quicker animation loading! and data loading in general. i mentioned this before, but i'll mention it again because i really like my optimizations. game go zoom!!

Man, I remember when heading from Peridot to Opal would make the game lag a bit and it took a second to cross into the other area. Now that is already working smooth as hell, and you want to optimise even more? Y'all are too good for us

  2. Every last thing on this list makes me so excited and I know don’t know how to start thanking you for all of them, but I do know I can thanks you for using a Kirby gif at the end, pure round boy is amazing. Thank you for everything.

(Also, a ‘open save files’ button!? No more digging trough my Mac files to find where the map went? How did you manage this!? You genius!)

  3. Ahw hell yeah! Hopefully it'll be smooth sailing, and you can focus on only one project at a time soon.

As for the side bar thing, using it for memes sounds like a great idea to me. Or alternatively, if you think it works, maybe you can use it to create positive reminders of what you recently finished? Like, 'we fixed an AI problem, look at us go!' or '15 more bugs have been squashed!'. Dunno if that works as a good opposite of the 'to-do list stress' issue, so yeah...

Anyway, Imma go see how this Starlight Divide demo is doing

  4. Thanks a lot for the update!

I'll miss the progress bars since they do look great, but I get that it gets frustrating when people put so much meaning into it when it really doesn't mean that much.

Good to see we are keeping the updates though, those are cute :3

What a way to get me hyped, that looks good!

  5. The fact that you guys take the time to make memes about essential is just phenomenal

Also, hasn't the line break thing been an issue since... always? Congrats for beating that boss, geez it's been a stubborn one

Hello I followed all the steps correctly and dropped the save file into the folder but when i start up the game my file is not available. I retraced my steps but i’m perplexed on why it’s not working plss help 😪

Me and @_fjrxx managed to get their save file working again! Hurray 🎉

So I wanted to try and summarise some of the things we tried and discussed, so that others may also benefit from it. So here goes

    1. Make sure your save file actually ends up in the folder. This sounds simple, but I noticed that getting confused about what is actually in your folder can also be quite simple. With this it might help if I take the time to explain what a save file looks like

    1770056024_Screenshot2020-07-10at07_47_49.png.62f55d0815e29583825d3c098602215b.png

You see, an active save file, the file the game will look for and read, is called Game.rxdata. If you have more that one save file, the other active save file will be called Game_2.rxdata (or Game_3.rxdata, etc.). Then what are these other things in my folder, these Game - number - more info.rxdata things? Well, do you know how the game asks, when you save, 'There already is a save file, are you sure you want to overwrite it?' (yes I know you've been skipping over this text since you were 5, it still asks though). That is what those other files are, your previous, overwritten saves!

Hopefully this helps with recognising what is actually in your folder.

    2. Make sure your save file has the correct name. Like I said, the game is going to read active save files, and it knows what an active file is because it looks for their exact names. That means your file has to be called Game.rxdata or Game_2.rxdata (or etc.).

Now, your mac isn't going to like it if you try to put a Game.rxdata into that folder when there is already a Game.rxdata there. Same type of file with the same name in the same folder is a no no. You can just rename one of them to Game_2.rxdata (or etc.), so you can keep them both without any issues. Additionally, I would like to add that the name should be exactly Game.rxdata (or Game_2.rxdata, or etc.). Naming it 'Game.rxdata old save file' or '(copy) Game.rxdata' won't work, because the game is not going to search for those files.

    3. Now the next issue we ran into is one we actually haven't managed to fix. You see, when @_fjrxx moved their save file to the folder again and had renamed it so the game should kn ow to read and run it, the file changed into a txt file, now looking like this (with TXT)

       t2020-07-01at11_21_48PM.thumb.png.188e3d4e663348af42e328523e77fca5.png.ea06d3c2b5014eabd035fe05af451e32.png rather than a blanc paper   1408944077_ScreenShot2020-07-01at11_21_48PM.thumb.png.188e3d4e663348af42e328523e77fca5.png.9c1b04924aeea18af25162a11c95c59e.png

Since the game would still not start up their save, we assumed the unexpected txt thing was the issue, the game probably didn't know what to do what that type of file. We however did not manage to figure out why or how it turned into a txt file, and I also couldn't come up with any ideas on how to turn it back into something the game could work with. So yeah, the txt file issue remains a mystery for now, and if anyone has a clue what could have happened, please let us know

BUT! combining some of the things we mentioned earlier, we also found a way around it!

    4. You see, the first thing we discussed was active save files and overwritten save files. The active save file has turned into a txt file and we didn't know what to do with that. But @_fjrxx had send a screenshot at some point that showed they had a lot of overwritten save files in their Wine files. Overwritten save files still contain all the information from that save. They went to find their most recent overwritten save file, so we could use that because it would hopefully only mean losing a few minutes of gameplay, and then all there is left to do is turn the overwritten save file into an active save file. How do we do that? Easy, just rename it. Call it Game.rxdata (or Game_2.rxdata, etc). The game looks for the correct file name, that is the save it will load and run and that you can play with.

So they did that, found a previous overwritten save file, renamed it, and again moved it to the new Pokemon Reborn folder. The file did not change into a txt file this time (which, yay, but also, why are you not being consistent!?) and @_fjrxx could start up their old familiar save file and say hi to their loyal Pokemon squad. The end.

Anyhoo, if anyone recognises some of the issues mentioned here, hopefully this might give you some insight and help. If you're not sure what to do or have a different problem, leave a comment or shoot me a private message, and then I'll think along with you for any solutions.

Damn... I'm not sure where to start if you really followed all the steps and were able to find the folder, but maybe you can find your safe file here in the game?

Alternatively... do you have multiple versions of Pokemon Reborn on your computer? Maybe you accidentally put it in the folder of a different version?

hey when I click on finder <my name> MacBook does not appear and macintosh hd is blank when I click on it. This is my first time downloading the game so I do not have a previous save file. If anyone could help me I'd appreciate it

When I click finder, I can find <Name>Macbook over here:

Is it not there for you?

(that being said, if you do not have a previous save file, I guess you currently do not need to go dig through folders, if you don't want to. Could you specify what you are trying to do? Maybe I can follow along step by step)

honestly i'd appreciate that bc i still don't know how you crazy kids manage to use a fruit as a computer

By mashing the fruit until its an edible mush

    okay here we go

How to get your old save file from Wine to work on the new Pokemon Reborn Mac version

Step 0.5) Realise that this thing is for Mac only (for now). If you don't have Mac stuff, this version is not for you right now, mokay? kay.

Step 1.0) Download the new Mac version

You can download the mac version by clicking the link in @andracass's post. And you should already be there because that's where I'm commenting on, so that's an easy step! (it's also in the download section of this site). Downloading might take a while, give your poor Mac a second

Step 2.0) Move Pokemon Reborn to a place where you'll be able to find it, preferably the Applications folder in Finder! It works just fine on Desktop for me too, but Mac creates some issues sometimes and moving stuff to the Applications folder has solved those issues before, so it's a pretty good idea.

    Step 2.5) Open the game.

Double click the game and open it up, just so we can see if it starts up at all. If all goes well, the game will start up the way you're used to. After you get past the pretty intro screen, we encounter our problem:

    1232739916_Screenshot2020-05-03at15_16_31.png.4ed0de4ca5a96d6cca0dfd14723821f6.png

Our safe file isn't there. That's the problem we're going to fix.

Does the game not start up? First, again, try moving it to Applications. Still doesn't work? Uhm, yeah, that's not really the problem I'm trying to fix here, so I don't really know, but please leave a comment somewhere and we'll see if we can fix it together mokay?

If it works, let's get to moving your save file.

Step 3.0) Let's uncover the unseen.

The folder where we want our save file to be, is hidden. So we have to make it un-hidden. I think I've found the easiest way to do so:

    - Open Finder

    - Go to <YourName's> Mac

    - Go to Macintosh HD

    - When you are there you will most likely see something like this: 1334697407_Screenshot2020-05-03at15_49_46.png.40719076ca762b6d4b767211ba307fc9.png

(I've right mouse clicked the Macintosh HD, so you can see how I got there. Also yes, my name it Tess, hi)

    - When you are here, in Macintosh, hit Command + Shift + Dot   (Dot as in .)

If that went well Finder should now look something more like this:356900225_Screenshot2020-05-03at15_48_06.png.0860c3e6ba7378db61f303333b59cb29.png

Those greyed out, less clear things? Those are hidden files and we can now see them, yay. Okay, so stay here, in Macintosh, with the files that you can now see, because we are going to...

Step 4.0) Dig towards the folder where we want to put our save file into.

So, we're still in Macintosh, and here's where we're going next:

    - Open the folder Users

    - From there, Open the folder with your (user)name

    - From there, Open the folder Library (this one is greyed out, a hidden one, so yeah that's why we needed to un-hide that stuff)

    - From there, Open the folder Application Support

    - From there, Open the folder Pokemon Reborn

Congrats! You found the folder that is concerned with save files, Hurray! (no, I don't know what it's doing all the way out there, but it's there)

    660837459_Screenshot2020-05-03at16_02_44.png.e6a650f4aa9b42a4c82338ffd1ee562e.png

(here's what the folder should look like. Again, I right clicked the upper part, so you can see a summary of the folders we went through to get here.)

So, we have a latest_save.txt and it's a little lonely, so in the next step we'll fix that.

First though, is there already something there? More specifically a Game.rxdata? That is a save file. I think it should only be there if you started and saved a new game. If you want to keep that, make sure it's safe, if you don't care, just delete it, JUST BE SURE IT'S NOT A SAVE FILE YOU CARE ABOUT. okay. but if you haven't started playing or saved, there shouldn't be anything there I don't think.

    Anyway, next step!

Step 5.0) Go find your save file from your Wine files.

So yeah most of you are here because you have a previous save file. If you've played on Mac, you probably had to use Wine. And your save is somewhere in the Wine files. I don't know your computer, I don't know where you put the Wine files, so I'm afraid this part is mostly up to you. If you can't find it, leave a comment somewhere or google 'how to find save files Wine'. We'll work it out from there, but I'm afraid this post is too lengthy as it is and the Reborn site will refuse it so I'm not going to add that here as well.

Did you manage to find your safe files? Dope! The one you want is Game.rxdata, or if you made multiple save files, Game_2.rxdata, Game_3.rxdata and so on. So yeah, those are your precious save files.

Now what you're gonna do with them is the last step:

Step 6.0) Drag and drop your save files into the folder we found earlier

Just drag and drop. Copy and paste should work too. Give that latest_save.txt a friend, so it's more like this:

    123878928_Screenshot2020-05-03at16_18_51.png.8031c124d2f12920502dde46de73a66a.png

Okay! There you go, your save file should now work for the renewed Mac.

So yeah, I guess that is a final step: Open the game again and see if your save file is there, safely, with the team you remember.

If it's not, try to remember all the steps you took, see if you made a mistake, or leave a comment saying what you did and what's not working and maybe someone can help mokay?

    A few last things:

    - Try to remember where we just moved the save files to. If you ever want to reload a previous safe file for whatever reason, that is where your saves are now, so that's where you need to be. Also, if a new version of Reborn comes out, you might need to fish your save file out again and put it in the new version, so keep in mind where we put it mokay? (EDIT: just downloaded the new 18.4 version, looks like so far there's no need to move your file again, it worked just fine for me where it is)

    - I don't know if it's safe to pull that folder away from where it is now, and keep it somewhere... more in reach. I'm not gonna try. It might cause issues. I have no idea.

    - Oh, if you're done with seeing hidden folders and want them gone again, simply go back to the Macintosh thingy and again hit the buttons Command + Shift + Dot   That should make them disappear again.

Special thanks to @andracass and everyone else who has been working to make all this stuff work!

I want to play the game when its finished....hate to wait for next eps...

Episode 18 is out right now and the developers are working hard on episode 19 and Postgame which, if i understood correctly, will be coming out together. Postgame should be the last I think, unless they feel like adding some more tidbits or if they need to fix some bugs perhaps.

You can keep track of what is being worked on in de development tab of this site and then check the scoreboard on the right side.

It's the last stretch of creation for Reborn, you can wait with all of us in excitement, for this last time 🙂
