  1.  No. No no no no no no no no no. Gods no. Not again. Dear Twelve not again. No! Not again!

Calm down. You're protected. You're prepared. You're safe. Nothing in the world- nay, the multiverse can hurt you, at least right now. Now of all times is not the time to panic. Panic and you risk losing the chances ahead.

Cicivexa, recognizing the Makuta's seeming unawareness of (or perhaps apathy for) his assault, cleared his mind and pressed his luck.

Under the effect of Manaward, the Fruits of Hubris are, somehow, ignored!

Cicivexa uses IJDJT2R.png Sharpcast, and casts lBJux0A.png Flare III on Icarax, Rahi-Nui, and the Makuta, a critical hit dealing (7d6 + 16 + 4)*2 Fire damage to all targets! Cicivexa gains Astra for 1 Turn! Umbra's duration lowers by 1!

     Effects & Cooldowns:

    Perks:

rjck6Oj.png Astral Cycle: Cicivexa can tap into the aetheric polarities which define his homestar's cycles of calamity and prosperity. Whenever he casts a Fire Spell, he gains the Astra effect for one turn, adding +LVL to all fire damage he deals. This damage boost does not stack with itself. Whenever he casts a Blizzard Spell, he gains the Umbra effect for 3 (+1 with Toa Heartlight (Ice)) turns, enabling the ability to cast certain spells, frequently Fire Spells.

Rbf0jJR.png Magick and Mend: All attacks that scale off of some amount of INT scale off of the same amount of SYN. For example, if an attack deals INT/2 damage on its own, it now deals INT/2+SYN/2 damage. The -50% penalty to buffs on AOE spells still applies. Does not apply to non-damage effects.

G7Scl6p.png Swiftcast: Grants the Swiftcast action.

LQ3xCXb.png Sharpcast: Grants the Sharpcast action.

    Flaws and Injuries:

KqeM8R3.png Enochian Dependency: If neither Astra nor Umbra was active in the previous two turns, -50% damage dealt.

T6sLmm2.png  Fruits of Hubris: When he is not under the effects of a defensive action, Cicivexa can't help being distracted by memories of Bazelgeuse. This reduces his damage dealt with magical effects by 50% against elite and boss enemies.

    Actions and Equipment: 8/8

1SpKtNI.png Swiftcast: Perk-backed, Free Action, Cooldown of 2 turns. Allows Cicivexa to use an additional Action (of minimum Action Level of 3), at -2 Action Levels.

IJDJT2R.png Sharpcast: Perk-backed, Free Action, Cooldown of 3 turns. Begins on cooldown. Cicivexa's next attack this round is an automatic Critical Hit for 2x damage. If the user has at least two active buffs when the cooldown ticks for the round, it is reduced to one, then ticks.

zPIs7BZ.png?1 Toa Blizzaga: Blizzard spell. Deals WD/2 ice damage. On a successful INT (+4 with Toa Heartlight (Ice)) check against the target's CON, deals 2x damage and inflicts Asl8mvk.pngHeavy for 1 (+1 with Toa Heartlight (Ice)) turns.

Asl8mvk.pngWhen a Heavy character uses an action, the action's cooldown is 1 round longer, even if it did not already have a cooldown. Heavy cannot stack with itself.

2d8pnL9.png Toa Freeze: Blizzard spell. Deals WD/8 ice damage to 3 targets. On a successful INT (+4 with Toa Heartlight (Ice)) check against a target's CON, they are inflicted with G8TVagh.pngBind for 1 (+1 with Toa Heartlight (Ice)) turns, at the end of the round.

G8TVagh.pngBound characters cannot perform actions that require proximity to the action's target. Bind is cured when an enemy of the bound character makes a hostile action against them that requires proximity.

lBJux0A.png Flare III (Level 7): Fire Spell. Requires Umbra. Deals WD+2d6 fire damage to 4 different targets. Lowers the duration of Umbra by one turn.

    lBJux0A.png Flare I (Level 5): Deals WD+2 fire damage.

Vicy0bT.pngThundaga (Level 3): Cooldown of 4 turns. Requires Umbra. Deals WD/2 lightning damage (benefitting from buffs to fire or wind damage, whichever provides more) and applies two stacks of QcBWAZW.pngThunderstruck on the target for 3 turns. Any resulting Thundercloud damage (see below) also benefits from fire/wind buffs as above, when this action is used at level 2 or above.

FNsULJv.pngThunder (Level 1): Cooldown of 4 turns. Deals WD/2 lightning damage and applies one stack of Thunderstruck on the target for 3 turns.

QcBWAZW.pngWhenever someone under the Thunderstruck effect uses an ability with a cooldown or charging time, one stack of Thunderstruck is consumed and Cicivexa gains Nnf4tJz.pngThundercloud for one turn (which does not stack).

Nnf4tJz.png Thundercloud can be consumed to unleash a weapon attack as a free action, unless the user is unable to act. This attack deals lightning damage instead of the original aspect.

mtIocJY.png Manaward: Once per encounter. The next two attacks targeting Cicivexa do not deal damage to him.

Stardust Rod Zenith: Casts the Scathe spell, dealing 5d6+INT (+SYN due to Enhanced Black Magic) non-elemental damage. Lowers Initiative by 5-Strength.

Felt Sash: Increases Initiative by 6.

Toa Heartlight (Ice): +2 Damage Reduction, +2 INT, 5% MHP damage every turn without a Kanohi Mask equipped. When an Ice Action of Cicivexa's causes a non-stun status condition or environmental effect, that effect's duration is increased by one round. If an Ice Action of Cicivexa's allows an opposed check to resist or avoid it, Cicivexa gets +4 on the check. Creates an additional action slot, exclusively useable for a Kanohi mask.

    |-> Kanohi Akaku (Mask of Vision): Lets you see through anything less dense than solid lead, though you can still tell whether you’re looking through something. Has a telescopic zoom lens. Activate the mask as a free action to ignore dodge and miss chances/effects for 1 round. 3 round cooldown.

  2. As the assistant's wounds were tended to by Brilliant Deduction, the pain did not subside much. Life-Recorder knew that most weapon-ready poisons didn't last long, even untreated, but it was still a bit much.

    U2erXDe.png

"Thanks. I don't know what I'd do without you." Not exactly true for this moment (her personal medicine still had a few doses), but it was broadly true, at least.

  3.

Sanada seemed unnaturally comfortable with the aid of a sinister deiform she had supposedly attempted to kill... he nearly suspected treachery again, before recalling that her mind was much too asinine for such machinations to have been possible. Still, the party could use a reminder of what hadn't stopped being an enemy of every soul on this star...

Cicivexa uses mtIocJY.png Manaward! The next two attacks targeting Cicivexa do not damage him!

Under the effects of Sky-Splitting Flash and Manaward, the Fruits of Hubris are ignored!

Cicivexa uses 1SpKtNI.png Swiftcast to cast lBJux0A.png Flare I on Icarax and the Rahi-Nui (and the Makuta, if and only if Sky-Splitting Flash is no longer active by Cicivexa's turn), dealing 5d6 + 16 + 4 + 2 Fire damage to all targets! Cicivexa gains Astra for 1 Turn! Umbra's duration lowers by 1!

    Cicivexa consumes Nnf4tJz.pngThundercloud to attack the Rahi-Nui, dealing (5d6 + 16 + 4) + 6 Lightning damage!

  4. He had to admit, this was a creative one, but Cicivexa had trained for months to channel without the need for voice control. Such tricks were worthless against him... and they would soon be his foes' downfall.

As he gathered energy in his staff, he lowered it and flicked it upwards, launching a ball of lightning towards the Trespasser! To a limited extent, now, its energy was now his to command. The excess of it, at least.

Under the effect of Sky-Splitting Flash, the Fruits of Hubris are ignored!

    Cicivexa casts Vicy0bT.png Thundaga on the Rahi-Nui, dealing ( ( 5d6 + 16 + 9 ) / 4 ) lightning damage to the target, and inflicting two stacks of QcBWAZW.pngThunderstruck for 3 Turns.

  5. ...perhaps she had drawn a bit too much attention. It was a miracle she was even still standing, with the toxin swiftly spreading through her (not to mention the second arrow wound). She clearly overestimated her own abilities, but still, she accomplished what she set out to do, and somehow still had the strength to pull back to a healer on her own. In a sense, she had still succeeded.

    Life-Recorder to G7

Brilliant Deduction to G8, heal Faithful Diligence

  6. The arrow in her gut was a mighty shock, and the inexperienced combatant nearly vomited a little. But that would be pointless, wouldn't it? She pulled it out as fast as she could, patched it up, and ran to the front line. It certainly wasn't her place to fight (she hadn't even brought a tablet), but the combined force now approaching them seemed... too much for the delegation alone. She couldn't do much, but she could protect herself quite well, and perhaps that would be enough to draw fire away from the healers.

    0A2hP4r.png

"Stand down! Our mission is too important for us to die, and you all have long lives ahead of you! If you wish to press on, then... understand precisely what you are throwing away."

She knew that most trained soldiers would fail to see reason (or simply have the confidence to see through her bluff), but a distraction was all she needed.

    BEFORE SOGGYSHANKS MOVES:

Life-Recorder to I-8, use Vulnerary on self

Brilliant Deduction to H-6, use Heal on Soggyshanks

  7. As Flies Freely flew freely past Life-Recorder, she sighed in relief that someone- anyone- in the enemy army would life to see the other day. At least one who could help pass on the lives about to be lost. If he is willing, that is. If only the rest of them would be so receptive to reason...

Lotus to G4, kill Sniper A

    Life-Recorder to H6, attack Sniper B

  8. As Cicivexa dragged himself back onto the scene, downing the one potion he could find on himself that wasn't expired, he was forced to consider his own actions. Would he have died if Edmond hadn't forced him out of the situation? He knew now that he needed to trust the man's judgment, but doing nothing while the Makuta spirited her off for "therapy"... didn't sit well with him, either. Even if such a being was willing to help with this one existential problem, his own continued existence is a problem unto itself, and "helping him" to any further degree, even as he has reaped so much from their very arrival... even if the Trespassers' invasion was stopped, he couldn't stand to leave this star worse-off than when he arrived.

This mutiny offered an opportunity: let the Makuta and Trespassers weaken each other, and finish them both off! That would be the best possible outcome, but that considered... he couldn't afford to be too risky. There is a clear heirarchy of problems, and... and even if it means the Makuta lives, the Trespassers (and the one working with them) were the target he came here for.

Under the effect of Sky-Splitting Flash, the Fruits of Hubris are ignored!

Cicivexa casts 2d8pnL9.pngToa Freeze on Icarax, the Rahi-Nui, and the Trespasser Spawn Tyrannosaurus, dealing (( 5d6 + 16 + 4 )/16) ice damage to the targets, and granting Umbra to Cicivexa for 4 turns. On a successful INT + 4 check against the targets' CON, Toa Freeze inflicts G8TVagh.pngBind for 2 Turns. (G8TVagh.pngBind: silences actions that require proximity; cured when a hostile action requiring proximity is taken against the victim by their enemy)

This attack deals lightning damage instead of the original aspect.

mtIocJY.png Manaward I: Once per encounter.

  9. The red-haired black ant seemed particularly interesting. Corporal Dart, was it? Recorder knew that her- that the expedition's survival was much more important than the enemy's, and that woman was clearly a very dangerous warrior; she knew this when she threw her chakram... but still, it would have been nice to be able to put down more than her name and face.

And then, suddenly, one of the enemy commanders began hero-worshiping one of the delegation members. Recorder immediately felt like she needed to act fast, but... perhaps the mercenary in question had the situation handled better. The enemy has multiple snipers with them, this is a delicate situation. Perhaps she could pull herself behind the enemy lines instead...? She dashed to the near edge of the path to look for an opening.

    Life-Recorder to E-4

  10. Life-Recorder did her best to study and memorize the appearances of the enemy group, both the living and the now-dead, as she dashed towards the front line with all her power to get a closer look... until she saw the red-haired woman wound the delegation's healer with dangerous skill. This was a life-or-death situation, if something isn't done about it, both her and Deductions' projects will end where they stand.

    l3tPhZx.png

That cannot be led to pass.

Life-Recorder to D8, attack Corporal Dart

  11.  This emotional little moment Medusa is having with... herself... is a waste of time. She could easily be trying to lower the party's guards for a desparation blow! And even if the supposed "good" Medusa won out on this exchange (assuming she is no illusion), where would that leave Cicivexa? She's had it coming to her for a long time...

Now then, let's see what this power can *really* do...

While Medusa was distracted by her own external monologue, the wounded and poisoned Cicivexa channeled his newfound command over ice to empower his magicks. He gathered as much energy as he could, before instantly forming an intense icestorm across Medusa's location, hopefully freezing as much of her as he could, to prevent her from doing anything to stop him. The very instant afterwards, he instantly conjures a burning detonation across the very same location!

    "Petrify this, wretched goddess!"

Under the effect of Manaward, the Fruits of Hubris are ignored!

Cicivexa casts 2d8pnL9.png Toa Freeze on Medusa, dealing (WD)/8 damage to her, and making an INT(16)+4 check against the target's CON to Bind them for 2 turns! Bound characters cannot make any actions requiring proximity to its target (and is cured when a hostile action requiring proximity is made against them). Cicivexa is additionally granted Umbra for 4 turns!

He then uses 1SpKtNI.png Swiftcast to cast vJgAk7M.pngFiraga I on Medusa, dealing (WD+5d6+6) fire damage to her, and granting Astra for 1 turn!

"So many lives to be lost..."

Life-Recorder pulled from the back of her belt (just behind her cloak) a sharpened wooden ring. Not the deadliest weapon, but it could be thrown a long distance, yet was quick enough to wield in a close scuffle. Perfect for self-defense.

    0A2hP4r.png

"Very well. I swear that not one bug on this field will be forgotten."

  13. Power began to flow Cicivexa as everything around him suddenly seemed much, much smaller. Is this the power to oppose even gods? Would it be enough to oppose the goddess who... split in twain and began requesting that we attack her? Is this some sort of trap? Cicivexa is two-thirds inclined to spring this kind of trap, but with this much power, perhaps the larger threats should be incinerated first...

  14.  As Cicivexa braced his will against further onslaught, a bizarre wave of feeling came over him. Not a voice, more akin to a raising magick... only he was perfectly conscious and on his feet. He could say yes, or no, and everything Cicivexa had learned throughout his career was telling him to say no. That any sort of sudden, seductive little voice from distinctly outside of him could be a trick, the siren song of a voidsent. The search for absolute power must be careful, and deliberate, and Oh Damn it All to the Seventh Hell MEDUSA WILL DIE TODAY! 15. Secluded-From-Illumination's fear of combat was overwhelming, but healthy regardless.

    ZPat4E4.png

"We are not going into battles per se, but with our luck, battles will likely find us, and yes, they are dangerous. That is why the delegation sent from the Redoubt is here: to accompany and protect us on this most important of missions."

    xRYhaLr.png

"Would've preferred a more experienced delegation, as I hear is normally expected, but..."

The other adolescent scholar-to-be, the bee... perhaps her 'strong' reaction also should have been expected. Perhaps.

    tnZH3gu.png

"If you can find the time to prove to enough scholars that your findings are immensely valuable, and that your work is worth supporting, then that will be enough. Until then, welcome to assistantship."

    RP285n0.png

"Speaking of findings, I request again. The marauders. Names, Appearances, Reasons for throwing themselves on your spears. While your memories are all still fresh, preferably."

  16. UZys1Tl.png

    "Ah, marauders."

As the conversation on competence ensued, Life-Recorder carefully stored the rolled up papers into her bag, save for one, and mulled over the delegation's news. It didn't sit right with her.

    U2erXDe.png

"Excuse me for asking, but were you able to glean a motive from the attack? You couldn't have had enough supplies to make even a successful raid worth the losses, especially once they realized they had to contend with two-to-three experienced combatants."

She then held onto the paper with the hand she used to carry the bag (It would certainly be useful to have been born with extra arms about now), and grabbed a piece of charcoal from a pouch sown onto the right side of her tunic.

    Zahjscd.png

"Actually, while we're at it, their appearances, names as well if known, would be useful as well."

  17. The female spider swiftly followed right behind Brilliant Deduction, keeping up with her while carrying several pieces of torn-off paper in her hand at once in her right hand, and what looked to be a rather heavy bag in her left.

    6sm5df0.png

"Life-Recorder. Aspiring scholar, and assistant to Brilliant Deduction for two-hundred and sixty-eight days and counting. Pleased to me-

It was then that she noticed the small bee's frantic begging, begging to become a recognized scholar.

    UZys1Tl.png

"Settle down, Stardust. A city isn't built in a day. It takes many moons, summers even, to become recognized as a scholar, and asking nicely will do you no good."

    U2erXDe.png

    "Believe me, I know."

  18. "So..." Cicivexa mumbled. "...we meet again." Cicivexa immediately reached for his staff, but a tidal wave of trepidation hit him that moment. He was fully aware of his odds against this... this god. She could crush him to death with only a finger! He needed to finish what they had started, but...

"...we meet again, and for the last time. No matter what."

It was then that Cicivexa noticed that the bizarre creatu- that Cell had prepared to defend him. Why? What did he do to deserve th- to convince this creature that he required this flagrant show of distrust in his power? This... in his own words, most basic, common courtesy among adventurers?

"Forgive me if I'm not in the mood for my normal theatrics. It is your hours that are numbered regardless."

Cicivexa casts zPIs7BZ.png?1 Blizzaga on Medusa, dealing (5d6+16+9)/4 ice damage, and granting Umbra to Cicivexa for 3 turns. On a successful INT check against Medusa's CON, Blizzard deals 2x damage and inflicts Heavy for one turn.

Cicivexa uses 1SpKtNI.png Swiftcast to cast lBJux0A.png Flare I on Medusa, the two Rahkshi, and "Loyal Gozer", dealing (5d6+16+4+2)/2 fire damage to all four targets, and lowering the duration of Umbra by 1 turn.

    Perks:

rjck6Oj.png Astral Cycle: Cicivexa can tap into the aetheric polarities which define his homestar's cycles of calamity and prosperity. Whenever he casts a Fire Spell, he gains the Astra effect for one turn, adding +LVL to all fire damage he deals. This damage boost does not stack with itself. Whenever he casts a Blizzard Spell, he gains the Umbra effect for 3 turns, enabling the ability to cast certain spells, frequently Fire Spells.

IJDJT2R.pngSharpcast: Perk-backed, Free Action, Cooldown of 3 turns. Begins on cooldown. Cicivexa's next attack this round is an automatic Critical Hit for 2x damage. If the user has at least two active buffs when the cooldown ticks for the round, it is reduced to one, then ticks.

zPIs7BZ.png?1 Blizzaga: Blizzard spell. Deals WD/2 ice damage. On a successful INT check against the target's CON, deals 2x damage and inflicts Heavy for 1 turn.

When a Heavy character uses an action, the action's cooldown is 1 round longer, even if it did not already have a cooldown. Heavy cannot stack with itself.

2d8pnL9.pngFreeze: Blizzard spell. Deals WD/8 ice damage to 3 targets. On a successful INT check against a target's CON, they are inflicted with Bind for 1 turn, at the end of the round.

Bound characters cannot perform actions that require proximity to the action's target. Bind is cured when an enemy of the bound character makes a hostile action against them that requires proximity.

vJgAk7M.pngFiraga III (Level 7): Fire Spell. Can only be cast while under Umbra. Deals WD+7d6 fire damage to one target.

vJgAk7M.pngFiraga I (Level 5): Fire Spell. Deals WD+5d6 fire damage to one target.

lBJux0A.png Flare III (Level 7): Fire Spell. Can only be cast while under Umbra. Deals WD+2d6 fire damage to 4 different targets. Lowers the duration of Umbra by one turn.

    lBJux0A.png Flare I (Level 5): Deals WD+2 fire damage.

mtIocJY.png Manaward I: Once per encounter.

Toa Heartlight: +2 Damage Reduction, +2 INT, 5% MHP damage every turn without a Kanohi Mask equipped.

  19. "Not to mention the additional threat of Medusa, a second deity of darkness, having followed us and joined Makuta's ranks. The threat she poses is unpredictable. Nothing can be spared in dealing with the threats we face." Cicivexa was still stunned by facing this thousand-year adversary of a god, but if he had something that could combat such threats, it needed to be deployed with all due haste.

  20. At first, Cicivexa sincerely doubted that Turaga Vakama had the power even for a mutually assured defeat of the Makuta. Perhaps he was mage of great power, but surely no individual could accomplish such a feat. But as they arrived at the vault, and the old man reminisced on having fought the Makuta countless times before, and on knowing and exploiting his every weakness, Cicivexa was dismayed.

"How... for how long have you fought with the Makuta?"

  21. "We have been here long enough, and there are enough of us, that I would thinl something like this would have happened by now if it is an effect of this world alone. As for if it is the mask's effect..." Cicivexa reached into his pack.

"This is the mask that I obtained when I arrived in this world. It should have no additional attributes to it, so there is a possibility this mutation would go away if you wore a different mask." Cicicexa handed it to the trepidatious demon hunter. "Now, I am only lending this to you. I expect you to return this to me as soon as you are in a position to, without any damage, yes?"

  22. Cicivexa was attempting to figure out how he could store and preserve a large enough supply of fire aether when he heard the explosion. He recoiled instinctively at the noise, before hearing Sanada's panicking. Approaching fearfully, he saw her altered scalp.

"You grew part of that monster's biology from thinking about it?! And this is not a normal occurrence for you?" Cicivexa's immense and assuredly impressive intellectual energy was now directed away from the matter of the frigid mountains, and towards this bizarre occurrence.  "I have two theories on the matter. The first, and more troubling, is that this Trespassing beast cursed you somehow, causing this change in form. This would likely imply that most or all of us have also been cursed in the same way, but have somehow had no symptoms thusfar."

"The second theory, perhaps more likely, is that in your encounter with the Makuta, he placed this curse on you, likely through the mask you said he gave you. This would explain why he attempted to make the appearance of helping you; he once made a similar offer to one of our own, and it has significantly increased the general threat in our mission. Was there anything else he said about this mask?"

  23. Anyone present could tell Cicivexa's mind was deep in planning. Anyone who had spent over a day with him could tell this meant nothing good.

"I recall that we saved the water stone for last, the last we discussed the possibility of going there. To elucidate our past discussions for those who had yet to join us: We are in possession of one "Mask of Water Breathing," the Kanohi Kaukau. In addition, "Cell's" ability to detach his head seems to betray that he does not need to breathe to survive. The same could possibly be said of the golem. As for those who have since joined us, I couldn't say. As it stood the last we discussed this, traveling to its location would require our group to split up. I suggested that we take advantage of this to get more done quicker, but it was determined we would be more successful as a group unit. We elected to save the Water Stone for later, with the possibility that we could acquire further resources to allow more of us to delve there,"

"As for the Ice Stone, fire-aspected aether should allow us an advantage against the snowstorm, but for several different reasons, I sincerely doubt that this island has the corrupted crystals for a continuous supply. Further unfortunately, our fellow ally with fire-based equipment is... no longer with us. The spells I have mastered thus far are oriented towards short bursts, as opposed to steady and safe supply, but... perhaps I could figure something out."

"Does anyone else have a solution as to the Ice Stone? And do any of our new allies (and Sanada) have any equipment and/or abilities suited to deep-sea excursions?"
