  1. Personally I don't think gyms are necessary, as long as something else replaces the level caps of the gym badges.

If the game has nothing that prevents people from over training their pokemon, they'll likely lose interest very quickly as the game becomes too easy.

A good example of a good replacement is Pokemon Apex, where it's replaced with some kind of curse with multiple locks that simply prevents the trainers pokemon from growing stronger.

  2. @Star Arcana Wouldn't it also make sense for Estelle to use maybe a dragon-type pokemon and a pokemon that sort of resembles a knight?

As the 1st things someone thinks of when hearing fairy tales are a princess, knight and a dragon.

(Although I guess this might just be a stupid idea, as there aren't really a lot of pokemon that resemble a knight, the knight-like pokemon would also pretty much become the ace and I'd be screwing up your trainer idea)

  3. As far as I've seen, the only things that that Elise and Serra have in common is ice-type and tragedy.

As the game plays in a post-war country, it's obvious that LOTS of people had some form of tragedy in their lives, and since most fan games are doing 18 gyms these days to make sure the game isn't too short, it's also obvious that each game has an ice-type leader.

My thoughts on an ice-type gym as 1st gym: it's going to be a very easy gym, as most ice-type start out very weak, slow or fragile (and usually remain that way as well).

Alolan Vulpix and Sandshrew would be good though, Vulpix for Snow Warning and Sandshrew for countering rock-type (though they would still be pretty fragile).

It could be a harder fight if item evolved pokemon will be used in the gym, such as Cloyster or Froslass, but using too many of these could make it overly difficult for a 1st gym.

(Ps. the part where it's common for people to have tragedy in their lives is a little bit of a reference to Lindow Amamiya from God Eaters.)

My choice was between sneasel and abra. I just thought that sneasel is pretty decent early on while abra gets knocked out quite easily. And if I ever ran into a dark pokemon... abra wouldn't be able to do anything since its only damaging move would be confusion...

Abra won't be getting Confusion, but Round instead, since it can't learn Confusion in any way and forcing it on Abra would mean that Kadabra's learnset would require some changes.

@Noctelis I think I'll end up going with something that doesn't start with "Team" as you suggested. As far as your guesses, the ones for the normal team members are correct, the admins are all theme based not type based and I won't say anything about the "King" but I'm surprised you thought of both possibilities.

I was actually thinking that the admins would be chess based and the E4 card based, in which case the admins would also be theme-based in the way I thought it would be.

Also, it would really fit the E4 as well, seeing as they're always type-based.

@Jess Vespiquen would actually suit the queen set more, as it's supposed to be the queen bee.

  6. Better name imho would be Team Loyal (as they remain loyal to their "true" ruler), Team Monarchy (as they wish to restore the monarchy) or Royal Guard/Knights (doesn't have to be called "Team XXX" every time).

About the members and admins being named after chess pieces or cards, grunts would be pawns, meaning nothing special about their team, rooks would be mostly tanky types, bishops specialize support/special attack and knights would be swift hitters, queen obviously uses all of those.

The cards give me the feeling of Spades being steel-types, Diamonds rock/ground types, Hearts probably fairy-type and absolutely no idea about Clovers since simply grass type wouldn't quite cut it.

Also, the king being the most vulnerable piece in chess, the heir to the throne probably wouldn't do much fighting himself, or as most important piece he'd be around champion level.

@Noctelis I noticed this a day or two ago. Can't give it psychic tm's or egg moves for the reasons stated. So I made the one time exception of giving it a move it can't actually learn. I could give it round instead but that's 60 base power

Unlike Confusion, Round doesn't get STAB, making it actually a weaker move on Abra.

  8. @ssbCasper changing the grass starter from Bellsprout to Bounsweet might also be a possibility which would also allow Horsea to become a water starter.

Also noticed that Abra isn't getting any love at all, which is most likely due to the fact that most people don't know that it'll have an egg move right away.

So idk how many people are going to see this here, but I just need a few opinions so I don't want to make a full topic out of this. I already decided to change the electric starter to mareep in hopes of people being drawn to 2 evolutions. But I'm a bit perplexed as to why we have no love for Poliwag, its really hard to pick a water type that isn't either overused in games or just to good to be a starter. So if anyone can think of some alternatives that people might like I'm all ears.

Changing electric starter to Mareep is definitely a good idea.

As for a different water starter I was thinking that perhaps Horsea might be a good and apreciated alternative, as far as I know, there isn't any fan game with Horsea as possible starter, and the fact that it has Kingdra, which has very few weaknesses, as final form, could also make it a popular starter.

Perhaps changing the fairy starter from Flabebe to Ralts would also be a good idea.

And the best ability for me? Contrary is a game breaker, if I had to choose, it would be Adaptability everyday. Damn that Mega Lucario with a 240 bp Close Combat, or even a badass Crawdaunt with a 200 bp Knock Off :P Just imagine a 240 base power Outrage with a Haxorus :x

Protean comes close second favourite ability, but Dragons would become Gods with this one thanks to their movepool.

There is 1 dragon pokemon that already has Adaptability (as HA), Dragalge, imagine that with Draco Meteor.

But being serious now, pronouncing it as Dragonite-ite is just making it harder for yourself. Pronouncing it as Drag-uhn-i-tahyt is a lot easier and I think it sounds a lot better than other mega stones like Blastoisinite, Houndoominite, and the aforementioned Banettite.

Nevertheless, I do like Draconite. Kinda like Draco Meteor and is fitting for the OG dragon. Speaking of which, imagine how OP a contrary dragon would be with that.

@The Drunken Dragonite Ha, Dragon Dance is the best! Way to go!

Metaknight met a knight with a Metanite XD

Anyway, I know how OP that would be, I've seen the power of contrary Malamar and Serperior, a pseudo dragon with contrary would be far too OP.

I would say it is a mix of both an RPG and interactive novel game. It is not to the level of a game like Pokemon Academy Life in terms of interactive novel games, but it is definitely going to be more focused on telling the story than other fan games. The actual gameplay will not be like an interactive novel game, it will be like most other fan games, but there is less room for role-playing because the protagonist will be almost constantly swept up in story arcs and events. I hope I didn't confuse you with this post, I am having a bit of trouble putting the concept into words.

    I understand what you mean.

It's quite a bit LIKE an RPG, but not quite the same as it's really story based instead of just doing whatever you want.

In that point of view it's going to be a very unique fan game.

Thanks, Honestly didn't know that xD

    Doubt many people do.

I just step into the 2 shadows, fight the Woobat and exit the area and re-enter right away, goes pretty fast because you don't have to look for random encounters.

Also, you can just hit them with ground moves thanks to the field.

Sorry, I hadn't seen this post when I made above post. I don't know how to put a quote into edit, so I hope I can double-post in this instance.

Anyways, I agree with you on unique story, I have always preferred a good story to specific features. I think my story has a fair amount of originality, but I plan to add more by focusing more on the supernatural side of the game. I understand the forced gender, and knew this would be a problem with some people, but it can't really be helped for my game. A male-protagonist really just wouldn't work for my game, since I have so many events and essential parts of the plot dependent on the protagonist being a girl. I understand it is harder to get into the role of the MC, but I suppose my game focuses more on telling a story than role-playing. Because of this, I know this game may not be for everyone, but hopefully I can make up for the lack of role-playing with an enticing story. I totally understand the frustration of that king of MC, I have played a couple games that made me pretty annoyed with the protagonist because of their lack of solving problems and such. Anyways, thanks for the feedback!

So instead of an RPG it's going to be more of an interactive novel game?

Interactive novel games, unlike RPG's, are more like reading a book with a few choices, so people don't have to relate to the MC.

In that case I guess the fixed gender can't be helped.

I'll definitely try this game when a demo is released, so I'll be looking forward to it.

So just before I get a million posts about how could I lose, it was done purposefully: Roran is related to Lance and Claire, he needed a bit of a humility smack. @Noctelis I purposefully left Susan out as she needs to sweep up and clean up when I crush Florina :P out of interest, does anyone want a tweet of the training montage?

I would want it, if I had twitter :P
