  1. So this is my team as of up to v9 (on Intense mode).

OPChikkin and Frog need no introduction, but I never thought I would like Golem so much. With his base 120 Attack and excellent move pool (he learns Stealth Rock, Earthquake & Stone Edge by leveling up!) he hits like a truck and with his 130 defense he's a pretty gud physical wall. He does have some glaring weaknesses, but this is somewhat mitigated by having Sturdy and Quick Claw as a held item. Overall I really like this dude and he will be a main party member for the rest of this playthrough.

Granbull I mainly use as an intimidate bot, but overall he's too weak so I'll end up kicking him out eventually. Same thing applies to Spiritomb. The main reason he's still in is because of his excellent typing and Memento (which lowers Attack and Sp. Attack by 2 stages). On the flipside he has a weak movepool (with Dark Pulse @ 80 BP being his strongest move) and mediocre attack stats (92 to be exact) and HP (50) so he's too much of a liability.

I really like glass cannons (like Blaziken/Greninja) or bulky cannons (like Golem) so if anyone can recommend me 2 Pokes that would fit well in my party, feel free to do so! :)

I added those and i suspected one of your reasons for "Title", was IV training and bottle caps! Instant 31 to IVs without excessive breeding isn't something to scoff at, right? RIGHT???

Nope I wasn't really talking about the competitive aspects tbh, just the story. I'm not even going to play Gen 7 competitively (except for Showdown).

As for IV/EV/Natures in Reborn, most of my team is pretty garbage in this regard. My team comp is also a complete mess, but I actually like it that way because Reborn's high difficulty makes it so awesome.

Gen 5 -- I liked the pokemon designs, hate me I know. This gen gets a bad wrap because of Garbodor and Vanniluxe alone. The region was very fun to explore, N had a great story to him. Black 2 and White 2 were just amazing sequels and Neo Plasma shoved back at old plasma who was sort of dorky.

When it comes to Pokemon in Gen 5 I think it's mostly a mixed bag. On the one hand we get awesome mon like Excadrill, Darmanitan, Scrafty, Galvantula, Chandelure, Mienshao, Bisharp etc. On the other hand we get crap like the starters, elemental monkeys, Watchog, Seismitoad, Bouffalant etc.

One thing I also found pretty stupid is that in this gen, nearly all Pokemon evolve super late, some of them even beyond level 50 or even 60! Not only that but they learn their moves super late too. Remember that in this gen, most powerful TMs can only be found post game which is a bit annoying.

BW had a really good story, but BW2 not so much. BW2 was better in almost anything else though.

  4. For me it would be (based on evolution lines):

    Gen 1: Charmander

    Gen 2: Cyndaquil

Gen 3: All of them honestly, this gen has the best starters by far

    Gen 4: Chimchar

Gen 5: Tepig, but tbh I dislike them all

Gen 6: Froakie, cos of Greninja

Gen 7: Difficult....I've only played once with Popplio. I liked him and Primarina, but hated Brionne tbh. Will probably go for Litten as his whole line is cool.

From this list you can clearly tell that I'm a pyromaniac. I really love fire types, especially the faster ones. All fire types have a base Atk/Sp Atk higher than 100 so they can hit fairly hard too. This is the same reason why I don't like grass types, because they tend to be the exact opposite of this.

As an added bonus, I'll also add a list of which Gens have the best starters overall (from bottom to top):

7). Gen 5 (the only gen where I dislike all of them)

    6). Gen 7

    5). Gen 6

    4). Gen 4

    3). Gen 2

    2). Gen 1

    1). Gen 3

    2) Episode 17 will introduce Gen 7 content, though we don't know if the QoL features will also be included.

    3) I recommend starting over and doing a themed run, like a mono challenge. Sure the story is the same, but there have been various gameplay changes that have been made to the start of Reborn ever since E12.

And for 1) there is a series of youtube videos that are a lore walkthrough of the game. So if you don't remember some parts of the story you could try watching it:

Tbh I care the mostly about the QoL features. The Alolan Pokemon aren't that spectacular compared to other gens and 80-90% of them have an abysmal speed stat. Z-moves aren't going to be a thing probably given that Mega-evolutions aren't implemented yet (except for your opponents).

I was actually thinking of playing Reborn Hardcore for some added difficulty. It makes everything so much more memorable if the game is difficult :). Also thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

There are a lot of reasons why E16 took way longer than any episode before it.

Yeah I'm aware of that and I don't blame anyone for that :). One thing we have to think about though is that Reborn only has a few episodes left (I heard there would be a total of 19 eps?). Given that there's still a lot of content to be covered, I can imagine the last two eps are going to take some time again.

I had your same problem (infact I was thinking of writing down a summary myself), but E16 story easily gets you involved, even if you don't remember a thing. Once I finished it's content, I kept it's save file and started a new run, just to fully experience the new content, and it kinda works, so maybe give it a try :)

Cool, I guess I just have to start playing and get into it again :).

Just be honest. It's them bottlecaps, right? RIGHT? You want something with proper stats in Reborn, you have to sweat buckets and struggle hard to get results...

There is a mod that solves this very issue, but it hasn't been updated to E16 yet:

Waiting for that update to happen, you could try this one (it's nothing fancy, just changes the check from "does any in your party know that TMX" to "do you have the TMX in your bag"?):

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

  6. Sup guys. So E16 has been out for about a month and now that I've finished Pokemon Sun/Moon, I finally can focus on playing Reborn again. Now don't get me wrong, I love Reborn and it is by far my favorite Pokemon game of all time. Still it is really hard for me to get into it again for the following reasons:

1). I started playing Reborn in 2013-2014, and ever since E12 I've been playing Reborn episodically, which would mean every 3-4 months or so which wasn't too bad. However this time the break has been longer than a year. Because of this, it is hard for me to get immersed in the story again. I've simply forgotten most of the characters and since there's no summary to be found in the game, that kinda sucks.

2). As I said earlier, I just finished playing Sun/Moon and am completely blown away by that game. It by far exceeded my expectations and also introduced many new QoL things such as no HM (slave)s, improved box system etc. it really feels like a step back not having these features in Reborn. (sidenote: I didn't have this issue at all when I played Pokemon X/Y because those games, at least the storyline and characters, are completely garbage imo.)

3). To be honest I've been considering to start again from the beginning, but it just doesn't have the same appeal because now I know what's going to happen. It also won't solve the problem if the intervals after E16 will be super long again.

So anyways I was wondering, is anyone else having the same problem as me? If yes, what did you do to get yourself motivated again? Please let me know in the comments below!

  7. Been reading through your comments, as a veteran who's played every single gen (including all X.5), let me share my thoughts. From bottom to top:

    7. Gen 6

    Spoiler

Everything about this game is just forgettable, especially the characters. I cannot even remember the gym leaders and E4 anymore. It also introduced the garbage known as Exp Share. Even if you turn it off it is/was still too easy.

Leaving aside the terrible story and characters (the post game story was pretty cool tho), everything else was awesome. Really loved the addition of Fairy type and mega-evolution. Friend safari was also cool and encouraged people to contact each other.

    6. Gen 4

    Spoiler

It's not a bad game, just extremely uninspired. Cynthia by far the coolest champion of all though. Platinum was by far better than D/P with the Distortion world and stuff.

Gotta mention that this is the gen that introduced the physical/special split. I also liked the evolutions for Magmar/Electabuzz/Gligar etc. It made most of them a lot more viable.

    5. Gen 1

    Spoiler

The game where it all started! I would actually put this higher on the list due to my nostalgia goggles. However let's be fair though. If I'd play the game again I'd probably shut it down cos it is so incredibly outdated.

Gotta mention that I really love the music of the first game, but again that may be due to nostalgia :P

    4. Gen 5

    Spoiler

Storywise this is probably the best Pokemon game. Also liked how TMs can be used multiple times. Everything else though I don't like. Aside from pokes such as Darmanitan/Excadrill and a few others, I hate the designs. Oh god I hate them. I also hate the starters. The game, just like Gen 7, is incredibly linear.

BW2 was worse because of lack of N, who is one of the best characters of all Pokemon games. I thought Hugh's desire to get his sis' Pokemon back was a bit over the top. His theme song however kicks ass.

Subjectively I'd actually place this lower on the list because I really don't like the Pokemon of this gen, which obviously is pretty important.

    3.  Gen 3

    Spoiler

One of the best games storywise with Team Aqua/Magma. It also has the best starter Pokemon out of all the games. I also love Gardevoir, oh god do I love Gardevoir. Emerald was better than R/S, except for the shitty Champion. ORAS I didn't like that much because Exp Share/Megas/Latis and other things made it too casual. The post game content once again was pretty cool, gotta love that delta episode.

It's really hard to come up with something bad, but if I could say something, it would be that it went back to 8 Badges from 16. That for me was a pretty big disappointment and probably for everyone. I also didn't like that Beauty contest shit, but since that wasn't mandatory, it doesn't matter that much.

    2. Gen 7

    Spoiler

I may be biased because I just finished the game, but holy shit did this game by far exceed my expectations. I didn't expect much at all after that atrocious X/Y. Not to mention that Reborn raised my standards to unmeasurable heights.

Anyways, where do I start? There's too many things to say so let's make a list:

    Spoiler

    +Game looks amazing.

+Good storyline, it really kept me engaged from start to finish.

+best characters out of any Pokemon game no contest

+Totem Pokemon! Kind of reminds me of some of the Reborn/Rejuvenation bosses

    +No longer need HM slaves

+Good difficulty. I didn't use exp-share and Z-moves so I had a pretty hard time beating the game.

There were some things that could've been better though:

    -Storyline a bit too linear.

-I hated the SoS battle system.

-Nearly all Alolan Pokemon have an atrocious Speed stat. This is really annoying for example when trying to escape wild Pokemon.

-To me it felt like they got lazy near the end of the game. That Dragon trial was terrible and there was no Victory Road. There's no build up at all, it feels like the Pokemon League is just an afterthought and not a real part of the story.

All in all a very good game and incredibly underrated if I look through your comments.

    1. Gen 2
I largely blame the nostalgia goggles for this, but damn this game was so awesome back in the day. If Pokemon Reborn didn't exist, this would be my favorite Pokemon game. Have a lot to say about this one so it's time for a list again!

    Spoiler

+16 Badges. No comment needed here.

+multiple QoL changes such as bag system, easy usage of HMs etc.

+Pokemon can hold items, Dark/Steel type introduced.

+This gen has some of my fav Pokemon including Typhlosion, Ampharos, Espeon and Kingdra

    +Light/Day system

    +Youngster Joey

+Really liked the Team Rocket Radio Tower/Mahogany Town event.

    +dat music tho

Can honestly go on and on, so let's focus on the not so good parts:

-Game way too easy. Enemy poke levels were too low. Good thing this got fixed in HGSS

-Move pools were ridiculous and starters would learn their strongest moves way too late in the game.

In conclusion, I think Gen 4 is one of the most overrated and Gen 7 is one of the most underrated, especially since it stepped away from the usual formula.

  8. I'll probably roll with Litten considering that I'm a pyromaniac that always chooses fire-type starters :D. But for real tho, grass-type in general is underwhelming to play, as the typing itself is bad and the fact that they tend to be more defensively oriented (except Treecko who was awesome). Glass cannons (or even bulky cannons) tend to suit my playstyle a lot more, so fire is definitely the way to go :)

  9. Although this episode was pretty interesting, there were a few things that bothered me (spoiler alert):

-Puzzles that involve you spam clicking every single object in the damn room/building are NOT fun. Also due to my own stupidity, I did not realize that the PC on the second floor was actually needed for entering the code.Maybe an idea to change the design so that it is clearer?

-I was kind of disappointed how easily Anthea was killed, and how easily Vitus turned into Indriad. I was expecting something more over the top, kind of similar with the Radio Tower thing in Goldenleaf Town.

-So now that there's time traveling involved, I hope things will not be messed up too much as these kind of stories tend to because extremely confusing or riddled with plotholes

What I did however like, and what surprisingly has not been mentioned before in this thread, was the friendship/conversations between Melia and Venam. What I really like in this game in contrast with Reborn (or even more the normal pokemon games) is that the side-characters play such a huge role in this game. As every episode passes by, the characters get fleshed out more and more and it really makes me care about them.

Having that said though, I think Erick was a pretty disappointing gym leader. The gym puzzles were pretty easy (and pretty much a ripoff from normal pkmn games), and Erick himself pops up out of nowhere into the story and then minutes later you have to battle him. With other gym leaders, there was a lot more suspense/build up involved as you had to do other stuff before fighting them. Not to mention that the fight was too easy, see my points below.

Set up 2 nice sword dances and spammed outrage with Haxorus, these gym leaders have nothing against sweepers.

This. After using Memento with my Spiritomb, I could easily set up 2 Bulk Ups with my speed boost Blaziken and easily swept her team (on Intense mode). I literally one-shot everything easily, and haven't even seen Ampharos mega-evolve. Yes you could blame me for using that OP chicken, but at least on previous gym battles/difficult battles it was a lot harder to set up on them. He also doesn't have an unfair field effect so that doesn't help him either.

As much as I hate them, I think there should be more double battles in the game. These tend to be the more difficult battles, since it is more difficult to set up, and usually the teams have movesets that can hit both targets and that kinda stuff. Although the Geara/Zetta battle was incredibly difficult (my mons were around level 55 or even lower), it feels incredibly satisfying to beat such hard battles hence the reason why I even bother to play on Intense mode.

  10. Wow, I'm really surprised how you guys have so many complaints about this game. Here's my answer to some of the common complaints in this topic:

    Hated routes
-Route 1/Aventurine Forest: Was a bit annoying to navigate, but the music was awesome so I didn't care
    -Route 2: ^
    -Chrysolia Forest: ^^

    Characters
-About the characters, I never had any problems with the majority of them. Even Fern is a guy I love to hate. Terra was a bit stupid yes, but I thought the megaman.exe reference was kinda funny, and it was also nostalgic to navigate through Glitch City, especially considering that I myself haven't played RBY for over a decade.

The only complaint I have about the characters is the fact that there's too many of them, and not all of them are equally memorable. It would be been a good idea to include a glossary (like the one you can find in Kingdom Hearts for example) to look up info, or to reintroduce characters who haven't made an appearance for some time.

I actually like how the gym leaders are involved in the story, instead of solely being strong monotype trainers. In fact, I cannot even remember the gym leaders in XY anymore.

    The diary
Hunh, really?! Maybe it is my curious nature, but I actually like to dig up on new info if it goes unpunished/unnoticed. I'm guessing it would have been nice to at least have the option, but still I don't see how people dislike it so much.

    Lag
That one I agree with, as it really wears down my eyes and makes me tired.

I don't want to sound like a smitten fangirl, but to be honest I only have one major complaint which is this:

I'M TOO IMPATIENT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, I WANT THE NEXT EPISODE ALREADY!!

  11. Yo guys. Even though I started playing Reborn about 2 years ago (think around episode 10-11?), I just wanted to come here to express my feelings of gratitude. Seriously this game is god-tier and Ame (and others?) is a freakin genious for inventing and creating this game.

About my experience with Pokemon, especially Gen I and II I have played to death (including Pokemon Stadium I and II), and probably rank in my top 10 games of all time. To date I have played every gen including the X.5 games such as yellow, crystal, emerald etc.

I unintentionally found out about Reborn by watching Shofu’s youtube channel. At first I was just watching the competitive videos, but then I saw he also did playthroughs of (fanmade) Pokemon games. So I looked through the playlists and saw Reborn. I thought by myself “hmm that sounds pretty cool” so I decided to download the game to try it. For real, ever since I hopped off that train, my mind has been blown (Hmm, there’s another awesome RPG where you hop off a train *cough* FF7 *cough*, could it be coincidence? :P). Let me just sum it up in a few bullet points:

-In contrast to the normal games that have a more cheerful setting, this game is dark as shit and Reborn City looks like a complete mess after all the devastation. Especially in the beginning of the game, Pokemon are scarce and you really have to look for them.

-The second thing that struck me was the excellent soundtrack. Not only the awesome Reborn theme, but also the remixes made by GlitchCity (seriously, why can’t more grills be so awesome like Ame and Glitch L ). Not only do the remixes have a lot of nostalgic value, they add something new and fit like a glove to the game.

-The boss battles are challenging and I actually have to use my brain cells instead of just facerolling my way through the game (Yes, I’m looking in particular at you Gen VI. What a total disgrace you were with that laughable difficulty, exp share and free legendaries). The field effects are a nice addition, I have no idea how so many people hate them (they are probably just too lazy to figure it out).

-Awesome storyline. For me especially the first part of the game that took part in Reborn City was the shit, and of course the infamous Volcano scene. There were some really questionable things happening in the storyline, like for example Glitch City, but overall the story has been excellent and leaves me hungry for more.

Although the game is friggin awesome, there’s some things that could be better:

-Characters. Although the characters are really well fleshed out, there’s simply too many of them. I only play the game every X months anxiously waiting for a new release, so I just forget about characters sometimes. It would be nice if you reintroduce some of them, or add a glossary to the game so that you can quickly look up info about them.

-Not necessary linked to Reborn only, but I really hate random battles. Yes you can buy repels, but it is super annoying to encounter wild pokemon, especially in caves. Would be nice to have the option to avoid them without having to waste a lot of repels.

At the moment I’m playing Rejuvenation on Intense and have 5 badges so far. It is nowhere near as good as Reborn though (which is of course the game everyone is comparing it to). There’s some real cringe worthy moments where I just shake my head in disbelief, but regardless it is still fun playing the game. I’ll write a review probably once I finished current content.

Before I end this post, there’s some questions I’d like to ask:

    1. How can you change natures in Reborn and Rejuvenation?

    2. Where can I find the move relearner and Heart Link in Rejuvenation?

But anyway, hoping to have a nice stay here on the forum J
