Do you have any programs running at the same time? I know that if you share screens while in a discord chat then your game will slow down by a lot, even with the speed-up function.

Did you boot up a new version with an older save? Maybe you were somewhere that's been changed. Try booting up an older version.

To find your save file you'll need to go into Saved Games or wherever it would be for Windows XP and then attach it else we won't be able to help you :c @Parker
