Thanks for the context, the decision makes sense. Curious to see how JavaScript works out for you in the long run - should certainly be faster than Ruby either way, and (IMO) a bit more sane of a language and ecosystem to write with.

professional curiosity, what kind of engine are you guys using? I know you had to heavily mod the ruby engine you used for Reborn, which seemed to take up a lot of dev time. Wondering if you found a better alternative?

Kudos to you for doing such an enormous overhaul of this system. And not only that, but in ruby. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to work on something of this complexity without a strong type system to check my work, let alone legacy code. Seriously, congrats - and don't worry about those data structures. You can always benchmark it later :)
