So, SpiritBaker asked me on PlayDotA if I was interested in this. I'm not so sure about signing up to a new forum exclusively for a roleplay, but, Alemannia was fun, so here I am.
I'll create a character, but I might not ever visit this place again (though, I have every intention to). So, be aware of that. Name: Luke
Species: Human (what other humanoid races are available? I'm not familiar with DnD at all)
Age: 24
Appearance: Short, sandy brown hair. Blue eyes. Light complexion, but you wouldn't guess it from his skin being almost infused with the smoke and soot of the forge. Powerful upper body and arms due to working metal, but weaker legs: Running is among his least favourite activities.
Wears an apron and toolbelt most of the time, but wears chainmail and plated spaulders during combat. All of his armour is custom made by himself, fitting him perfectly and allowing for flexibility and quick movement despite his lack of natural agility.
Weapons: Fights using a long sword, but is proficient with fire magic. Using the two together is assisted by his understanding of Blacksmithing.
Backstory: His father, a humble town guard, often noticed a youthful Luke's fascination with the forge when the father and son went together to collect weapons or armour. Asking if Luke could become an apprentice, the Forgemaster was eager to take Luke under his wing. From training under his father and the Forgemaster, Luke became a skillful Blacksmith and a formidable fighter. But, more than anything, the flames of the forge interested him greatly. He pursued knowledge about fire from his father, and the Forgemaster. They suggested he ask some travelling wizards about it. One day, a wizard was passing through town and young Luke went to meet him. He asked him for everything there is to know about fire. The wizard smirked, but didn't answer the question. "Fire is a mistress that cannot be controlled; a wild animal that cannot be tamed. If you're interested in magic, it would be best to focus on a different affinity."
But Luke said "No, not magic. Just the fire."
The wizard refused to speak any more, but yet the next night, when the wizard had continued his travels, Luke returned home from the forge to find a book under his pillow, entitled "Magma - The Dragon's Breath." He could not read it, but his mentors, in the form of his father and the Forgemaster soon imparted their teachings to him and he learned to read the old tome. It was a story about a miner who stumbled into a dragon's cave, and though its scales appeared black, it was kind and welcoming to him. The miner became trapped when he delved further due to a rockfall, but the dragon protected him and helped him move the rocks. The Dragon in the story mentioned a material called "Magma," boiling hot rock from within the world, that apparently the whole world was once molded from, and a special place where the Magma flows but never cools.
The book also detailed the incantation of fire magic, which the Dragon used to melt the rocks.
Re-reading this book many hundreds of times, Luke figured out what he had to do, and each day, when the Forgemaster left to relieve himself, Luke would try and control the flames in the forge to move as he wanted them to. Years passed, until one day, they flames moved, and Luke shouted in surprise, rushing off to find his father. But when he turned around, he saw the travelling wizard standing there. "I suppose you read the book, then? I'm sorry, because the text is very misinformed about fire. Though, I see you're still eager to learn more about it." The wizard stayed in town for one night, but had no opportunity to rest: For he had made it his task to teach Luke the mysteries of fire, or die trying.
For a few minutes, the wizard instructed Luke on different ways of channeling his spirit to create a flame, and upon being told to do exactly as the wizard said, he summoned a flame with ease. Training by himself, he learned how to cast many fire spells, which helped him greatly in improving his craftsmanship.
A successful fighter, blacksmith, and fire mage, Luke is now a man. But yet, he still yearns to learn more about fire. And more about The Dragon's Kiss.
