    Why do they always need a wooden stake or cross to beat a vampire? They still have brains. Wouldn't hitting them with a heavy object and splattering their insides against a wall be enough?

      It depends on the mythology; sometimes decapitation and destroying the head actually works.

      In some cases, staking the heart is required; in some just destroying the heart in general is required.
