  1. Ok, it was a suggestion before; now it's a request. Please make sure all posts are relevant to this topic. If you really want to discuss the Japanese character issue, take it to PM, thank you.

Can we see a lemur Pokemon? Or maybe some hybrid breeds, like Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender has

Understood. Sorry for rambling. Whatever the case, I appreciate everyone's ideas and effort.

On a more relevant note, we need another axolotl that stays an axolotl upon evolving.

  2. By the way (to clear things up), you argued:

idk about kai being ocean. in what language? cuz umi is ocean in japanese, and it certainly isn't english.

    I posted

海 <- kanji "kai" used for "sea."

to point out that there is a kanji for sea called kai, to which you responded

what aka? ak47? and you used the hiragana instead of the kanji. *shrug*

ガ was from an unrelated post in which I mentioned that using that instead of カ made the use use of orcas as the basis for Kyogre questionable, since the Japanese transliteration of orca is オーカ.

  3. I'm starting to think that some of us have different definitions of it. I define hatred as the desire that someone suffer; no one should have to suffer, whether they deserve it or not (although I myself should be willing to suffer). That's why I consider it inherently wrong. An eye for an eye doesn't solve anything.

It's separate from wrath, which, in the end, boils down to disapproval. I, for one, used to hate everyone who intentionally made my life difficult/painful, then humanity in general, but then I realized that I was at fault for some of the things I hated them for (at around the time middle school began). Even though most of the things that I was aware I did wrong amounted to meek attempts to satisfy my pride (which I didn't condemn as an emotion 'til a few years later), I never hesitated to act upon hatred (or other emotions, for that matter); the only reason I ever stopped acting on it was because I deemed it either inherently wrong (at which point I refused to hate anyone, because if the desire for others to suffer isn't the epitome of evil, I don't know what is) or a waste of effort.

  4. That's a pretty idealistic thought. Anyone who is dead set on mass shootings is going to do them regardlessly.

Wouldn't it make getting away with starting a mass shooting that much more difficult? I don't expect anything to change for the better–ever–but he was at least trying to imagine a solution.
  5. In essence, our fear of change and the unknown are what I believe to be the greatest fuels for hatred.

I beg to differ. I personally follow the idea that self-interest is the root of hatred (and evil in general). Fear–specifically cowardice–is merely a symptom of that.
  6. To put it bluntly, hard-case criminals will always be able to get guns, but the cost and difficulty with which they can get them is made much steeper if the US has very strict gun laws. At least it'll prevent the random Joe from being able to get hold of a gun and start blazing away. The current logic devolves into an internal arms race among the law abiding citizens: "they have guns so we should get them too to defend ourselves", and that just means more guns everywhere and more risk involved if any one is misused.

The fewer weapons available the better, at least in my view. It is an outsider's one, I agree.

Gun use ought to be either commonplace or prohibited (except, of course, among police departments). If someone with a gun was nearby and willing and able to intervene against a criminal like that, they'd stop them before their slaughter gets (more) out of hand.

The only real question that should be examined is whether or not we who live in the US trust our neighbors enough to do that (to have the selflessness and grit to stop a shooting spree).

Would having stronger police patrol work? Like, situate more armed police/guards at crowded areas, such as stadiums, schools and clubs.

Wish I could upvote this (the problem this presents, of course, is the fact that some people'll argue that it's an invasion of privacy).

Ok you have a Lucario in your trainer card and you also got Death the Kid, so how about something deadly with moves semi-related to firing shots? Be glad I didn't make you a Mega Blastoise :P

Lucario's in UU now, but I'm just as pleased as I would've been if you'd chosen Charizard or Bisharp.
  8. Viri's here to ruin your fun again!A Lama? You mean..?

ICSW ninjask'd me with the Shaymin pun, but oh well, I cede that to her willingly. (Heh, geddit? Cede? Cuz it sounds like Seed, and Shaymin is grass...OK, I need help.)

    Goddamnit, Barb.

Anyways, regular knifefish ought to have a different representative (preferably one that isn't Electric-type). And electric catfish aren't the same species as electric eels (in fact, IIRC, they're a whole genus).

I forgot to mention swordfish, clownfish, narwhals, and sailfish (or marlins in general). Oh, and hammerhead sharks. And non-torpedo-hybrid sharks.

And the ガ in Kyogre's Japanese name makes it more difficult to identify as an orca (and that possible association between them is lost in translation).

  10. Hey now hes always been useful ever since the special/physical split and even back then he was not "bad". He was always in gyrados shadow though but now a days its about even.

Shame it didn't get Sheer Force last Gen.

I kept going over all the 'mons I enjoy - and knew it was kind of unoriginal - but, no matter how many times I tried to avoid it, I always found myself identifying with Charizard. I'm particularly fond of its shinies. There were a few close seconds, though.

    Runner-Ups:

Blastoise: My first starter/fave (before I grew to prefer Charizard on FireRed).

Mewtwo: Best legendary ever. Of all time. STFU, RAYQUAZA

Espeon: It never ceased to kick ass on Colosseum, XD, Emerald, and Platinum; I barely beat Pike Queen Lucy with it ('twas my first encounter with a Frontier Brain; her Shuckle was SATAN).

Metagross: Mostly due to how useful it was on Showdown.

Togekiss: I fucking loved how angelic it was - as well as how useful the Tri Attack Togepi from XD turned out to be, but that's just my nostalgia from having used it over and over again in the Gen IV Battle Frontier.

Aegislash: It was amazing on Showdown before it got banned, and it has a nice shiny.

Sylveon: Just 'cause I loved how people either failed to predict or terribly underestimated its Hyper Voice when I gave it Heal Bell, Protect, Wish, and max HP.
