Some artists are very self-conscious about their work. They're also probably experienced enough where they can see the flaws they make that you can't see.
I know the self-deprecation can get annoying, but artists tend to take their work seriously and when they know their art has flaws, because they have the experience to notice they're there, they don't always take it well.
