  1. I think I'll just honestly start by saying your changes have not gone unnoticed and I will say this one did show interest in me because I've actually dealt with some issues because of the things you're trying to fix. Turns out when calculating every move 1,000 times for a certain battle does tend to brick the AI causing it to halt. I can't really add much since you kind of answered everything in your post.

But...can I just say something about the last part:

I don't think any of us would argue that guy had any right to really make an account to make a tangent about the dev blogs. Maybe he was a long time fan of Reborn and these posts sort of released a bunch of bottled up frustration. There's better ways to handle it but sometimes our emotions get the best of us. Maybe he's just an ass who can't take a slight bit of criticism. The point is you don't know. And rarely do things get resolved with petty arguments as it just makes them angrier.

I'm not going to say what to do or how to handle them. That's up to you. Maybe you should be the bigger person or maybe give them a piece of their own medicine. That won't be the first and that certainly won't be the last person to say something that puts you down. It's something you accept will happen when putting yourself into the public with work. I and probably a number of other people have had their own experiences and even light hearted stuff can feel a jab in the gut.

I get it. I really do. People make it sound really easy to ignore or get over. Everyone learns how to handle it differently. I've learned how to find amusement in it. Helps put in perspective how harmless it really is and how silly it was getting so worked up about it. Also makes me realize people are reading the things I say, but that certainly is a me problem.

This got a bit too sentimental. Especially because the OP is using Shark Tale pics. That's a movie that should be dropped to the deepest deaths of the earth to be forgotten for all eternity. No person should ever be exposed to such horrors.

  2. Excuse me for a moment while I get this loud screaming out of my head. Seems to happen every time there's a new release. Now then excuse me for being the igonramous of game development as my skills are of a toaster hotwired to a bomb, but is the Game-z run off all of the games files so if someone edited the game in RMXP it'd show up in that version or does it have its own system it reads off of?

I guess the other question I have is if this was just a spur of the moment or are there plans for releases during the long wait time for E19 to come? You know how I love to copy and paste stuff over again and again. Just wondering.

Hearing Redux won't get fit into hard mode because of canon teams is... rather ironic, since you devs, however otherwise amazing, did in fact change the teams for Gen 7 mons, making them overall less fun. Specifically Aster and Eclipse. I miss, dearly miss, their Elekid and Magby. That was a highlight fighting those two up until their final stages. And pretty much all of the teams of E16, frankly.

And with all the work Commander's done... not that I know anything of programming to deserve a word I type be minded for two seconds, but wouldn't that mean he's basically handing more or less completed team changes already?

And yes, a Stunfisk would be a nightmare. But I still prefer the horror of Togedemaru.

I've said this before, but I honestly don't say it enough. I was really just joking given I did all this work but I have said it and I will say it again:

Pokemon Reborn is Ame's creation first and foremost and I will always respect that decision. If she asked me to stop Redux or hand over anything I did I would do so without question. Pokemon Reborn is the Reborn dev teams as it should be. They ultimately have the final say in what they do. Not that I agree with every decision, but just want to make sure people understand that.

But let's just put that all aside and say putting the normal Redux fights (aka the touch up of the normal fights) I do. Would that be the best possible decision to make? The fights are all more or less harder so on the surface it would make sense, but not everything perfectly matches. Many of the fights in Redux skew more towards the original designs than towards their current visions. That creates a clash of ideas and maybe some things could be too difficult curving the balance the wrong way. Redux is an intentionally flawed game. I try my best but some things just don't work out no matter the time and effort. It doesn't mean someone is wrong erring on the side of caution when it comes to an outside source. I know ya'll aren't happy with that answer so let me get into the other one:

I personally think not willing to change teams up since characters only have 6 mons is a stupid reason, but one I understand. It's stupid because nobody would be able to tell and it's easy to counter argue in a logic sense. They can swap mons at any time and it's hard to believe leaders only have 6 mons they use in their entirety. But in terms of making things more difficult it makes sense to keep all the mons the same. It's a time saver and you know mons are stronger since you can increase their stats and have better moves. It's a safer more logical approach to this. It's less of a risk and gives a more guarnteed challenge for those looking for it without going overboard or needing to test the hell out of it. This isn't something about being lazy, but being practical because I have plenty of stories of testing nightmares. The infamous Armadia took a day and a half of testing. It's a time commitment that not a lot of people have especially someone who worked on the stuff I don't want to.

At the end of the day, it'd be cool to see a Redux fight become an official fight. It'd also be cool if the follower mod or any of the dozen of other cool things also got into the main game. The fans of the fan creators have done work and we've crossed into territory we cannot go back on for better or worse with the modding stuff. Reborn has done a massive implementation because of this which is really all the thanks I feel any of us need.

And besides, it's not like I'm not going to end up finishing Redux after what...4 years so no matter what happens with the official one it's not like the clearly superior unofficial one isn't gonna happen...put your goddamn pitchforks away. I'm only kidding. Point is the stuff everyone enjoys will still be there and it doesn't matter if it's official or not. Just that I'm dying on the inside trying to figure out how to work with these new modes. Stop making more work for me.

  4. Do you want me to give you the Redux doc because at this point we both kind of did the same thing? But on that subject...

Give Julia a stunfisk. That thing alone cause more hell than even a Heliolisk. Give them the true meaning of ragequiting.

tl;dr but couldn't you have just recycled and modified Showdown's random battle sets? Those are simple enough for the AI to use, at least with a bit of modification.

What if I told you that would most likely would have been more time consuming. You have to read all of those sets then convert them into a readable format to implement into the game. Showdown is kind of almost worthless for game team building imo

  6. Hmmm...I suppose what I would suggest as rewards is stuff people normally would spend hours to grind for anyways. That was the general idea for the OG battle tower but it was flawed as they only had vitamins which only went so high. Towers are generally given the purpose of easy grinding and the postgame is doomed to be grind heavy...I think you see where I'm going.

Now the real question I have is if the bosses are going to be tower exclusive. I assume so but I am asking just in case.

  7. @N1Dude and @Archeric First off, there used to be a paypal option to donate for the site but has been taken down a long time ago. The best way to fund Reborn is to support her patreon page which I believe is currently the only method.

Secondly, asking for money on a fan-game is illegal no matter what way you want to spin it. I'm not afraid to say it because Ame clearly knows the rules around it as do many of us. I'll leave my personal opinions on the subject out for the time being. I just ask that you to not pressure fan-game makers to go this route. Beyond that, I don't want to swing people's opinions one way or another on the subject.

  8. >New intro

It's official. Ame really is trying to make me go off the deep end with this Gen VII and all those seeds. But honestly, Reborn's desert can't be worse than Gen VI. But alas we shall wait until then to see what you have in store for us. Hopefully before December this time.

  9. Curses! My plans to inevitably delay E17 until next year have been foiled.

Anyways, I'm glad you found help for the mapping and honestly, it's not surprising to see Jazzyfur helping out. As for the whole update stuff, I've been here before the whole status bar back in the day when episode releases just kind of randomly happened. But anyways, I think just a little status update on the progress bar once a week (probably twice a week) is more than sufficient enough as rarely will there be enough to give an update like this. Mostly to say "hey we're still alive and kickin' it".

I'm totally not saying that because it's totally not the thing I look for daily on the blog.

just to be clear about what a 'branched story' implies, it is not anything terribly dramatic like what some of these comments imply. a lot of parts of the game have had branched stories, for instance with regards to who gets kidnapped at tanzan, etc. manage your expectations accordingly.

I figured it was more along the lines of do this section for badge A then do this section for badge B, but it could be done vice versa with a few differences. There are quite a number of things this branched path could be, but I have a feeling it has to do with a Crobat. Just a feeling.

nooooo not the Woods again just because I want to play the whole game with the improved AI, somebody help

This is again, taking it a bit to the extreme here. There is not a jump in difficulty if you're expecting it, but more like the gimmicks of Pokemon will be slightly improved such as Kiki's Fake Out, Unburden, Normal Gem Hitmonlee. Of course my knowledge of Reborn is way, way outdated so I don't know how "bad" the AI is.

@Everyone suggesting the restoration projects affect the storyline: First off, that is completely optional. Second off, there'd have to be 4 entirely different sets of dialogue to acknowledge each change in the world. And third, those are areas designed for sidequest events which do not give any info on any character in the main story.

  11. ....So I was expecting the Public release to be the final release and prepping about 20 Gen VII mons along with a whole bunch of coding until I see this and I'm like...

Now I gotta play Sun & Moon to understand the new Mons. Let's just say there is a lot of different feelings going on inside of me right now. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go cry in a corner.
