The pledges, what exactly do they do?

As the title states I would like to know what the pledges do for you in EP.12, thanks.

They have some cool effect when used together.

* Pledge Combinations have been non canonically implemented-- In order to combo, Pledges do not need to be used in immediate succession or in a specific order, and can be combined in single battles as well. These combinations retain their original effects from the Gen 5 games as Field Effects.

Grass Pledge + Fire Pledge = Burning Field

Fire Pledge + Water Pledge = Rainbow Field

Water Pledge + Grass Pledge = Swamp Field
