Text to speech question.

Hi, all being well I hope to start playing this game in a few days, just out of interest will the text to speech be able to tell me if my new starter is male or female?

I don't mind whatever it might be but not having much vision i'm not able to see the image, aware that some Pokemon have different moves or shaped tail depending on what gender.
