8th gym: Why is Reniculus's Psychic attack supereffective against my Vikavolt?

Hi I'm confused, and I think it's the chess board field effect doing this. It says Psychic is a "chess attack" so it gains x1.5 damage. It also says chess attacks have + rock. I'm not sure what that means. But is the x1.5 damage the reason why it's registering as a super effective move?

The +rock means that the move works like Flying Press, but it gains rock typing. So Psychic(move) first runs down the Psychic(type) list looking for weaknesses or resistances, then runs down the Rock(type) list looking for weaknesses or resistances, then displays the appropriate message, in this case the move being super effective.
