  1. I actually like the battle difficulty this time around; I was challenged but I could win without being super lucky or taking 1000 attempts to secure a strategy. Then again, I tend to play games for story and enjoyment, and while I like to be challenged, I'm not a fan of  constant crushing difficulty. Either way, just my 2 cents!

    As for the story stuff

    Spoiler

    3. I agree with Suzuki about Tristan, which I feel is supported by that fact that telling him about the visions or not seemed to be an important choice. His reaction to option of telling him seemed pretty genuine as well, he even says in the dream, the twins were shady. I don't think a proxy would have pointed that out and would have worked harder to suppress your doubts . I was wrong about a few things this episode though, so I wouldn't be too shocked if I wasn't right about this. My character would be crushed though, she quite likes the guy, haha.

    5. That's part of why I had a very hard time trusting Lilith's warnings my first time playing E5; her team in the dream (at this point anyway) are basically terrorists. How much of this is her doing is another matter, but yeah. Maybe she was building an army to fight Darkrai, but they went wayward at some point?

  2. Spoiler

The fire horse is in a house in the Dreamscape. You have to do a bit of a quest, which involves believing that Jackson stole the "stalker" girl's Pokémon, By doing so, he tells you what happened to it, and you have to relay that info to the girl. She then gives you the key to the locked house, which contains the Ponyta. And that

Is where to find Ponyta, since it shows blank on the list for me.

yes, 7 insight to be exact.

    Alright, that helps a lot!

    Also, just out of curiosity

    Spoiler

How does responding to Tristan about the books' visions affect things? I tried both answers and nothing much seems to happen in the immediate, but I'm wondering if this has consequences later on?

If you have not gathered enough willpower from the dream (but completing various tasks within the Dreamscape, AND Nova has not been saved, you will not be able to resist Darkrai without avtivating the 'bad end'. The only way you can proceed is to accept Darkrai's hand.

Thank-you for taking the time to answer (and making the game, or course!). Looks like I'm replaying Ep 5 (and won't rush through it, haha)

I also figured out the back-up thing.

  5. Hi there,

I didn't know where to post this, or if it deserved its own thread, so I apologize if this isn't the place to post this.

As it relates to the end of ep. 5, I will place the information in a spoiler tag

    Spoiler

Alright, so I got the bad ending, when I refused Darkrai and didn't have the willpower to resist. I really don't want to join him, but I can't seem to go back to a point before I'm forced into an interaction with him. I thought I could use an Escape Rope, but nope. I saved right before the confrontation with him, and nothing happens after the bad ending screen.

I tried going into the previous saves, but it hasn't been backing anything up since v4. (even though I enabled that setting, they are nowhere to be found)

I'm honestly on the verge of tears as I've pooled hours into episode 5 and don't want to lose it.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

@Star Arcana Lots of great ideas :) I may include some of them in the game!

I'm glad I could help! One of the awesome things about Pokémon is the amount of freedom the franchise gives you to build your own stories. There's just so many different possibilities that all work within the established lore, and there's a lot of room for fanon as well. Sky's the limit!

  7. I really believe that Pokémon adventures can deviate from the traditional formula and come out BETTER for it. My reasoning for this is quite simple, it would provide a unique experience and force the creator to come up with a new story-structure. Phoenix Rising is a great example of a fangame that's moved away from gyms, and it's looking great so far. Colosseum and XD are two canon games that avoided gyms completely, which gave fans different motivations and goals.

We've all played the classic "BATTLE THE GYMS, STOP THE EBIL PEOPLEZ, BE A CHAMPION" type of Pokémon journey, and while it can be made into a fresh experience, I think trying to go in a completely new direction would be a very nice change of pace.

This is an answer I wasn't expecting. I mean less gym leaders when every other game increases their number. It's quite an interesting take but it makes a lot of sense. I guess I was stuck in the regular way of fans making games. The idea that more gyms=more story. More gym leaders really help in the development of a story, but it's not the only way to add more content.

I think I will separate my story into Arcs as you mentioned so as to organize it better.

Anyway, this was a really different answer but it was very helpful.

I think that's one of the bigger things that happens in fangames, using gym leaders as a vehicle to add important supporting characters. It's quite understandable too, as Leaders are insta-strong trainers that usually have some authority/recognition/respect, so they can easily have an important effect on the plot. However, I think other possibilities are often neglected, such as, ace Rangers, mercenaries/vigilantes, reformed grunts/evil team higher ups, priest/priestess/guardian to an important Pokémon,  active researchers, ect. I think the idea of including a reformed baddie could be extra interesting, as I've rarely seen it done, and it could provide the heroes with access to a base or something (instead of storming the pace with a gym leader)

Just my 2 cents, of course

  9. Gah, how in Mew's pink holy name did I miss this thread?!

    trainer name: Estelle

    trainer type: Librarian

Favorite type, types or theme for a team: Fairy-types mostly, because fairy tales.

    Ace Pokemon: Sylveon

Character traits or personality: She's a bit shy at first, but talk about books and she opens right up. She's also a bit of nerd and enjoys all things mythology, folklore, and fairy tales. Estelle is a friendly character and tries to do what she considers to be the right thing, but can be a bit hesitant at first due to being a bit of a fearful person. Despite this, she's quick to act if her family, friends, or Pokémon are in grave danger. Also, has a fear of Beedrill (makes sense, considering fairies are weak to poison, and wasps are scary, haha).

(optimal): if you were an important figure what would your sprite be like: I don't have an example, but something based on the Clerk class would be fitting. Alternatively, a sprite of a female with glasses wearing a cardigan and dark pants would be perfect. Can't have a proper librarian without a cardi, haha.

  10. I personally liked the tone of your post; it's serious enough, but not too heavy either. I'm guessing that's what you meant, right? (if not, just ignore this, haha)

Either way, I'm a dead fish when it comes to helping with mechanical aspects of making a game as I'm a total n00b at it. That being said, I really enjoy reputation systems; not only do they add to the game's replay-ability, but they also allow you to impact the world in a realistic way.  It's also really interesting when your options go beyond the "black vs. white" and force tough, nuanced calls.

It's also important to note how choices can stack, and how that may affect events down the line. For example, choosing Estelle-friendly options twice, but then defying her the third time would likely yield a less negative reaction then if you had sided against her previously. Estelle may even become convinced you're right and side with you that third time, even though it goes against what she would have otherwise done.

I apologise if I rambled and/or failed to contribute anything worthwhile...

  11. Team Firefox ftw!

Drought is amazing, and Vulpix is one of my favourite Pokémon ever. I also like that it does get interesting attacks leveling up, such as Hex and Extrasensory, which give it decent versatility. I've never used a Vulpix in a while, so that would contribute to my favouring it as well.

Second choice would be Axew, because it pwns. Plus, as other have mentioned, early access to a dragon is rather rare.

  12. I really like the idea of using a figure skater as well; it's a pretty unique concept I've never seen done before (in a Pokémon fangame). It also fits so well, and her backstory is pretty neat too.

Having developed gym leaders makes Pokémon games so much more engaging, and it sounds like this is going in the right direction in that regard.

  13. Image result for male meowstic

This beautiful thing right here. Prankster, dual screens, Fake Out, Psychic = this thing can really mess with opposing teams. I'm using one in my Reborn playthrough, and I have no real complaints so far. Sol pulls his weight, and then some!

Female Meowstic is also pretty solid early to mid game, but she does get outclassed as the levels continue to creep upwards. Considering her useless though is way too harsh, even later game. I'm still using mine off and on in my Desolation run, and I'm nearing the end of ep. 4.

    Image result for pachirisu

If Reborn taught me anything though, it's not to underestimate this beast. Overall, it is very lacking in the stats department, but its speed and sp. def are actually pretty decent. This allows it to outspeed many in the early game, and with screens protection, it can be half-hardy. However, where this monster shines is in being a total troll. Parafusion + Charm = GET REKT. May I add that Charm does help make up for its subpar defense somewhat. This being said, I'm only at Pyrous Mountain, so it will likely start slipping as foes get stronger teams, but so far, no complaints. I literally only beat Shade because Trollirisu + screens was such an effective combo.

  14. I think, depending on the nature of the event, that having the player meet certain requirements (catching X number of Pokemon, finding X number of collectibles, ect) also adds a certain experience to the game. It may get the player to do things they wouldn't otherwise have done (bothering with the collectibles, for example)  and rewards the players that do go through the trouble of finding collectibles, catching lots of Pokemon, ect.

Event Pokemon could also be a good way of introducing a species that doesn't fit in your dex, or that you would rather players not get multiples of for a while (for example, having an Eevee event earlier on, as it makes a good fit, but having the daycare come much later).

  15. This may sound odd, but I think joining some guilds would lock you out of others. Getting involved with a dubious research guild may cause the Rangers to doubt your resolve to saving Pokémon and refuse you, for example. This would force players to reflect upon which allegiances they want make, and which legendaries are worth going after. Something like this would feel more realistic and would also increase replay-ability.

Just my 2 cents, of course.

  16. I'll likely be echoing what many have already said, but I guess this could be seen as my vote/support for certain candidates. I'll try to add new options when I think an unmentioned Pokémon might work. Also, I'll try and focus on 3 stagers, but may include those with 2 as well.

    Bug: Venipede or Grubbin

    Dark: Sandile / Zorua

    Dragon: Axew

    Electric: Mareep

Fairy: Cleffa (though it may struggle early-game) or Flabébé

Fighting: Machop or Timburr / Pacham

    Fire: Litwick

Flying: Starly and Flechling are solid choices

    Ghost: Duskull

    Grass: Budew or Bounsweet

    Ground: Trapinch

    Ice: Swinub or Vanillite

Normal: Lilipup (Generation VI stats for the line) / Buneary

    Poison: The Nidos / Skrelp

    Psychic: Ralts

    Rock: Aron / Rockruff

Steel: Aron if not used for Rock. Magnemite

    Water: Poliwag, Horsea, or Spheal

@example @Zander  I don't quite think arguing about the validity, accuracy or who has more 'realistic' ideas for their own occupations and characters in Reborn City is the intended purpose of this thread or place for it.

To be honest, this is supposed to be for fun. I picked a more "average" life because I wanted to represent an accurate view of what I think I'd be like in Reborn. I'm not one to charge terrorists if given time to think it over, and I don't think I'd have traveled considering the state of the world. The furthest I'd have gone was Agate, because illness would have forced my parents to leave the polluted city (and that's later in my life). This is reflected in my team, which is made up of 'mons found within city walls. Should I draw up my bf's likely team, it would be a tad more exotic, as he'd have been a pro trainer for a few years.

That being said, nothing wrong with going heroic if you feel that's the route you'd take.  It may be hard to find some of those Pokémon, but I'm assuming other regions exist and yeah. Plus, I think thieving punks would be extra motivated to steal exotic Pokémon from visitors and sell them on the black market, which could make them accessible to Reborn-ians.

I hope the tone of this post is peaceful and positive, as that is my intent.  ^-^

  18. If you lived in Reborn City, what do you think you'd be doing for work? What about your home; which ward would it be in? Would you have Pokémon, and if so, which? Don't hesitate to note both "pre-PLUSE" and "post-PULSE" scenarios for yourself as well!

Based on my current occupation, I'd likely be a librarian at the Beryl Ward Library. My residence would be in Jasper, however, and I'd live in an apartment with my bf. Going into the woodlands would be my way of getting away from the hustle of the city, and I'd likely train my team there from time to time. This would be more for self-protection rather then a desire to be a trainer, however. My team would be:

    Meowstic - Luna - F

    Butterfree - Liberty - F

    Lopunny - Ginger - F

    Emolga - Storm - M

    Swirlix - Gourmet - M

On the day of the PULSE attacks, I'd be at the sweets shop, looking for a gift for my bf's birthday. Despite being lucky (considering how the Jasper and Beryl wards were hit), I'd lose both my home and my job. I'd spend up until Ep. 16 living with my brother in north Opal, after failing to get my bf to not go after Meteor. If I gave a quest, it would likely be related to the library. My reward would be giving out a few Lava Cookies, as I'd bake to pass the time. I can also see myself trying to create a new Library, haha.

Haha, I got a wordwall there. But, Reborn's world is so rich, I couldn't help but let my imagination go a little loose!

This glorious beast, otherwise known as Glaceon. Graceful, powerful, and the cold never bothered her anyway.

(I know it's not that great in battle, but in the right circumstances, it's best not to underestimate the damage it can do)

Boweon is a close second, followed by Leafeon and Espeon. Though, I'm fond of all the Eeveelutions, really.

  20. image.png.1a94db824ec3e3110a2c2cdf86fe5a17.png

    Empoleon - Napoleon - M
    Glaceon - Yukiko - F

    Meowstic - Luna - F

    Ninetales - Renata - F
    Rotom - Geist

    Sawsbuck - Winton - M

Prior to Gen 7, this was my defacto team. Sometimes, I could swap out Rotom for Luxray, but it was pretty stable apart from that. However, with the new Pokémon and forms, my core team has been rocked a little. Lycanroc Midday and Alolan Ninetales have a home in my party, but trying to choose who would go is hard. Things get trickier with ice-fairy fox, however, as I don't want to double on species AND I hate having type overlaps. I did come up with a tentative team which includes Gen 7, but it's a WIP.

    image.png.d2ff48c3420de3439b4c9d3440741667.png

    Leafeon - Sayuri - F
    Alola Ninetales - Elsa - F

    Lycanroc - Mason - M

More realistic, however, is a team like this (considering where I live and the fact that I wouldn't battle too much)

    image.png.5cf5794142799674e30ad1e465da4daa.png

    Butterfree - Liberty - F

I know for SURE that I'd have Empoleon, Meowstic, a form of Ninetales and, of course, an Eeveelution of sorts.

Thank you! I would really appreciate your help. Do you have any ideas for a rival trainer perhaps?

I haven't thought much on the protags and their rival(s) yet, but I do have an idea for who a key NPC could be. Egyptians did use Oracles to relay messages between the deities and mortals, so maybe someone serves that roles, but with legendaries.

My only idea for the protags as of now is having them be related to the last royal family of the land; basically, they have pharaoh blood. This is what makes them special, and how they can get so strong in such a short time span.
