The AI was tweaked so there would be no more pointless potioning situations (like when a leader slaps an ultra potion on a low hp pokemon that's about to get OHKO'd anyway), but it turns out leaders and other important trainers really dislike using their potions at all now.

I believe that should be fixed in later releases.

That makes sense, although the leaders against my gf forgot the memo hahahaha

are you using the change weather mod?

I used it on episode 17 but I havent put any mods into the 18 folder, so I don't think it would be it

Yea I noticed this too. The big battles in the new content in ep 18 didn't use any healing items too for some reason .

I thought it was from the new episode but my gf said Corey used 5 potions against her and not 1 with me

  3. I started a new playthrough for episode 18 and noticed that the gym leaders are not using healing items.

I thought maybe it was something to balance the better ai but the game my gf staryed they are using healing normally.

Is there an option that I changed or my game went crazy?

I see, but 40 BP is not my like. It's good tho, don't get me wrong.

HAHA Imagine now a female well busted Blaziken just kidding

Makes sense that moveset too, I just made what I'd use. Torterra would work well on this team, although its speed is not for my taste too. And Venusaur, well, the first trio is unforgettable and Venusaur also gives an option for Mega too xD

40bp before mega evo, which boosts stab to 2x. So 80 for a priority attack, useful against faster sweepers.

    Not bad not bad

I actually like torterra, but the run i had with him on reborn did not work at all as his bulk is undermined by the number of weakness from grass. So being slow + reborn unforgiving gym leaders punish the poor tortoise.

RIght, let me try to help. I'll use movesets to your 4 mons that I would use and will try to build around them looking for cover all type weaknesses, note that moves in this font are useful, but I'd use the first ones:

    Lucario

     - Swords Dance

     - Blaze Kick

     - High Jump Kick / Close Combat

     - Thunder Punch / Poison Jab / Crunch / Earthquake (when TM is available)

Lucario is the most useful of the 4 you lke, you have too many options, you could also go for a Special attack one with moves: Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, Psychic (would not need because of Gardevoir), Shadow Ball (would not need because of Honchkrow), Flash Cannon and Dark Pulse. The boost from Swords Dance make the physical set more enjoyable for me though.

    Gardevoir

     - Calm Mind

     - Psychic

     - Moonblast

     - Draining Kiss / Thunderbolt / Shadow Ball / Energy Ball

Gardevoir has a nice design but, at least in Reborn, in my opinion, it lacks a bit in usefulness because we don't have access to the good TMs so I don't know why everybody seems to use it.

    Aegislash

     - Kings Shield

     - Sacred Sword

     - Swords Dance

     - Iron Head / Aerial Ace / Shadow Sneak

Another nice design but lacks in good moves. Since Lucario doesn't use the Special set, I'd give Iron Head.

    Honchkrow

     - Roost

     - Night Slash

     - Drill Peck

     - Facade / Brave Bird / Thunder Wave

This is one of the mons that I never understand, it learns Nasty Plot and Calm Mind but doesn't use Special moves even though it doesn't learn Swords Dance or Bulk Up. I'd go with Facade just for more variety, Brave Bird for more damage but Thunder Wave would be the best move since Drill Peck is strong enough.

Right, with these moveset we're still lacking against: Fire, Electric, Ground, Water and Flying. So I think we would need a Ground mon, to cover Fire and Electric and a Grass mon to cover Ground and Water and something else for Flying. My suggestions are:

    Grass:

     - Venusaur: Hidden Power [Fire] for coverage, Ingrain to help a bit, Giga Drain for the cover we need and Sludge Bomb (when TM is available) to complete the set;

     - Torterra: Earthquake for electric and fire, Wood Hammer for Water and Ground, Crunch for more coverage and any move you like; < If you pick this, use Ampharos or other Electric/Ice.

    Ground

     - Mamoswine: Earthquake through lvl up, Stealth Rock to help stalling your adversaries and Ice moves to use against Flying.

    Something else:

If you chose Torterra, Any Electric/Ice would do the trick, like Mamoswine above. You can also try Weavile, A-Tales, A-Raichu (all wasted here, considering the rest of the team). Another good Electric would be Electivire (Fire punch, Ice punch, Thunder punch, Hell yeah all the punches).

My team would be: Lucario, Gardevoir, Aegislash, Honchkrow (can't run right?), Venusaur and Mamoswine.

Hope I helped xD Good luck

My lucario goal is to be that but with bullet punch instead of earthquake.

Gardevoir is the waifu pokemon cmon. Also she has the loyalty thematic, which I love in pokemon (I only dont have arcanine there cause just wouldn't work) and with basically that set up, maybe trick room depending on oponent/other pokemons

Honchkrow is sucker punch, brave bird, night slash, tailwind. I dont think roost works that well, with his def stat I dont see me being able to use it while tailwind I can use as a last move or during turn sucker punch would fail

I tried a game with torterra, was not impressed 😛

    I would suggest:

    - seismitoad: it covers honchkrow's electric problem, hitting back at them supereffectively, gives you an water immunity, a resistance to fire and its only weakness is easily covered by 3/4 of your team

    - hydreigon: levitate makes it imune to ground and psychic types, resist ghosts, fire and dark (all of aegislash's weaknesses)

This team will leave you weak to fairies but aegislash and (mega) lucario should cover those 😄

I think you won. Although I'll probably get swampert but following your main idea

    Thanks guys

Depending on how late in your playthrough you want to finish the team, Garchomp would be a pretty good addition. As last member, I would suggest an offensive fire type (Rotom-Heat, Darmanitan). Rotom-Heat is the better choice in my opinion since your team would be pretty weak to ground otherwise.

But to avoid disappointment: This kind of team will probably not be able to carry you through every battle the game has to offer. Picking more than 6 pokemon is better.

Oh yeah, ground is the bane of my existence in reborn. I liked the rottom idea. I know the best would be having replacements, but having a team with your favorites is so nice 😛

  8. I thought about him specifically for the hp and typing. Most of other eves would be type redundant and he can work as a wall assuming your openents do not use grass (i find it the worse type so I always assume no grass XP) and in double battle it works with ninetails as you mentioned and with raichu tanking eletric damage

  9. Just now, Maqqy said:

Typhlosion and Primarina are the best candidates for your starter since you lack those types. Last lot can be Ampharos for electric coverage. Honorable mentions: Roserade, Magnezone, Arcanine, Alola-Raichu, Alola-Ninetales, Mamoswine and Diggersby.

My gf will be using primarina so i will probably not use her (i like being different). Ampharos is the pokemon i used through the game to the end of chapter 17 so I guess ill keep him hahaha, the downside is that ill be using the mega evolution on lucario (if available) so i would not be able to fully use him.

It really depends on what type of stratagy your team wants to accomplish. If it were my team, I would round it out with a Kingdra and Mimikyu and lead with the Mimikyu since its ability takes a free hit for it.

I do not really have a strategy as the thing for me is having a team with those 4 pokemons, which are my favorites. So im just looking for ideas to complete the team the best possible way to cover the downsides, including addition to help in double battles and i felt those are harder with this team of mine

  10. I'm trying to make a set team that ill use it without changes as I get them. I know most of them come later in the game but this is more about a team with my favorite pokemons that will take the elite 4 with me. The for sure ones will be lucario, gardevoir, aegislash and Honchkrow, any advice on the other 2 members to complete the team? a starter would be nice but not required

  11. Just one more thing that I think is worth mentioning as you follow the standard pokemon game mindset; do the extra reading for this game. There are lots of good jokes, references and forshadowing in many conversations that can be considered standard, even a random NPC can make a reference to a favorite media o yours, which is one of the things that makes this game special

Also, take the chance the new episode is coming out and restart your game. The AI will change and maybe even some leaders pokemons... win win

Yeah, I know that, was just wondering what it takes to make one of these areas. On the technical side, what about places like Shade's gym? Lighning the area doesn`t need an event-tile?

Not really, the darkness is a separate thing. The tiles are already there, they just have an overall map dark sort of effect that suffers the event

  13. So, I was doing the water treatment plant to rescue amaria and one of the meteor grunts and taka kept swapping their pokemons back and forth. I was using my Honchkrow and it seemed they were swamping between pokemons that had an advantage to each of his type. Eg one of the pokemons was fairy and the other was electric

  14. My point is more towards the double standard that I believe some of the critics have. As I mentioned, i`m pretty sure lots of the people upset about it never felt this way when it is the other way around, fewer woman eg, and are doing it here

Mate, you care too much about it. And explain to me please what is an 'progressive' game.

I don`t really care as long as it does not affect the game, there are plenty of games that add totally out of place characters just to reach a "quota". As i said, i love the game and it is done right.

All tough i do have a problem of how the gym leaders are basically all over the place and never at their gym, you know in case someone else would want a badge lol

  15. I'm kind surprised you guys are caring so much about the lack of a certain gender in the game. I totally hate political correctess and sjw but this game should be the perfect example on how to make a progressive game right. While she did have the bias in the beggining it never became about ideology and it was more about being a good game. Having more woman main characters should not even be a point to be brough up, since i'm pretty sure none of the critics ever complained about "lack of woman" in other games.
