  1. Oh, senpai ! *fanboys intensifies*

I play on Hardcore 2.1. Not sure if it is the latest or not but it doesn't seem to be to old of a version.

Regarding Fearow, I don't know yet. Mirage and Rafale were originally picked to counter Corey since I figured out any team could oppose Florinia/Shelly because I would have the type advantage. As for the mons I'll be getting right after... I don't know. Iirc there is a Ducklett available and maybe Swanna can work it out by the time I can get a Pelipper. I also know from my first run that the Murkrow in Lapis Ward turns out pretty well. The hardest thing in a Monotype run is to still manage to cover the 18 types and your main weaknesses at the same time, I believe. So maybe even a Hoppip if I can get the weather to be windy in the slums. No, really I don't know either how this will work out !

And yes of course, Apache has both Smokescreen and Dragon Rage and I won't get rid of them soon. They are game changers alone.

For the mystery egg, well I didn't know you could ask to change it after hatching it ! Guess I'll figure it out when I get Ditto and not before ! :P

EDIT : Is the mystery egg the one given by the policemen, or the one in the slums and which one can you modify ?

  2. Hey everyone ! It's me Altha and although you might not know me, I already know some of you (#lurking).

After clearing my first normal run on Reborn, I decided to do a Dragon Mono-Type one which was... Kinda unbalanced, especially with a strong beginning team. Early levels were either way too fucking hard (Goomy is useless and stays useless a long time) or way too fucking easy (Dragon Rage level 10, top kek). Well, went through one way or an other, and of course lategame was a piece of cake. So... I got bored to death by it. This is why, after following a few Mono-Type runs and being mostly inspired by Drevance's Fire run, I decided to try it myself, on a different path than the one I first took. So :
    - This run will be done on Hardcore difficulty. Cause heck, that seems fun af.
    - I'll write down my progress in the best english I can deliver and with as many screenshots as I can provide (I'm a little french dude and am aware that my english isn't perfect so please don't rip your eyes out if you see typos/mistakes).
    - No starting team will be asked from the Request-A-Mon thread.
    - I am only allowed to use Pokémons which have the Flying type in their current state or in an evolved state they can reach. For instance, as a starter I can choose Charmander and can allow myself to keep it since when it will be a Charizard, it will be Fire/Flying. On the other hand, I can use a Scyther but never get it to evolve to a Scizor cause it wouldn't have the Flying type.

I hope you will enjoy following this run as much as I enjoy playing Pokémon Reborn !

    EPISODE I

So... Let's hop of the train. First thing first, I grab a potion from this missy over here, after nearly getting blown up from a fucking terrorist attack. The weather is slightly windy.

Yeah, I do know. What I don't really know is how "Hardcore" this mode is. I'd better be prepared, then. Oh, my, my. Missing on the important duties. Meet our protagonist for this run, Altha.

    1ef60ed6693840729c8f531120200736.png

Altha, tho a little emo, has worrying fashion tastes but seems kind, overall. Also, he likes trains planes. And Flying Pokémons, cause it allows him to woop Fern's ass and get it done with Victoria as well. About Cain, well... Meh, he won't matter. Always liked the guy, tho.

So, on with the starter, Charmander, of course, as it is the only one I could play. Got him decentish, with a notbadish nature and Blaze. Will do. Named him Apache because he identifies ximself as an Apache Helicopter.

    a4eb8291b2da449ca2388502224dbe70.png

Let's try him out. First battle is against Cain's Nidoran M.

    43833bcd2e2542dda755ba73216c6a36.png

    charmander.gifVS nidoran-m.gif

Scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch. I win. Me faster, you missing. Kek. Apache gets level 6. Dat waz izi.

And here comes the second fight.

    charmander.gifVS tepig.gif

I open up with Growl. Scratch vs Tackle battle goes next. For a reason he's both stronger and bulkier, so I pussy out and use my sole Potion. HA, REKT ! Apache gets level 8 and learns Ember, which will come in handy.

I swoop around some trashy trainers until I notice this place is different from in my thoughts.

    139395f070e744ff8401ce1b7d31932d.png

Niceeuuu ! Free new items at the beginning of an Hardcore mode ! And just a random dude with glasses (so he must be kind af) in front of it ! What could go wrong ?

    b7d59b8365c746deac278ab95a1fd99e.png

That's ok. But I soon realize this Patrat is an HM slave to support the big deal. Praise him !

    charmander.gifVS rayquaza-mega.gif

Hell, it was a trap so obvious I fell for it. Well, I of course get destroyed and move on after soft resetting and careeeeefuuuuuuulllllyyyyyy dodging this guy. This one was obvious, but I wonder if there'll be more suprises like this around the road. I hope not. On the other hand, I am more than happy to find he was guarding a Lucky Egg and an Exp. Share. This. Will. Be. USEFUL. AF. Let's move on and bash some useless non-Flying Pokémons trainers and seek for some master race friends.

I do a bit of farming, and upon exiting a Pokémon Center, it starts thunderstorming.

    da4eb7a5f3094079af216a9e280943ef.png

That sucks, Ember being my main source of damage. But heck, there's no way I could change the weather, right ? So we continue, the rain wiping away our salty tears from our cheeks.

After a few research, let's face it, there are PLENTY of Flying Pokémons available (or at least that I can choose from) in the early Reborn wards. I was hoping to find a Wingull/Zigzagoon getting bullied by kids but it was a fucking Pachirisu so I let it drown and move on. Got access to some hidden garden where I could grab a bunch of Insect Pokémons I could take since their third form has the Flying type, but I'm pretty sure I don't really want/need them in my party. Also, I can find Noibats but I'm not sure if I want to have an useless bat until level 48. I'll get one later on, when its base level will be higher, I guess.

    aef4ee942d9a420a999ea5998eaae220.png

New friends, Mirage & Rafale. Their IVs are pretty bad, but a Simple Swoobat with Calm Mind and 31 Speed IVs could be pretty nice, especially because I fear Corey a lot. Better be safe than prepared, and since I don't think I'll have to build teams around Flobot and Shelly thanks to my natural master race type advantage, I'd better think a few steps ahead. Noctowl is a safe addition. Anyway, I accept them as they are, since I am really too lazy to soft reset wild encounters and that I probably won't drag them to lategame given the fact there are way stronger Flying type Pokémon later on.

I level up the new guys a bit, cleaning the streets of Peridot by destroying all that wretched youth and those thugs, then meet and face off to THE annoying Swag Jocker himself, Sir Fern ! I kinda always liked the dude, though.

    87e74c5ab77449398905e86ecc289ee2.png

    woobat.gifhoothoot.gifcharmander.gifVS roselia.giflombre.gifservine.gif

Already more challenging than on normal mode. Mirage takes out Lombre with several Gusts then is taken out by Servine. Apache goes in and Embers it to death after burning it, losing a lot of life in the process. Things are getting delicate, until Apache levels up and learns... Dragon Rage. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh. Roselia gets almost one-shotted. Rafale finishes the job. All is well that ends well thanks to that early game overpowered ability again. Not spitting on it too much tho, because looking at this fight with Fern, I'm starting to fear a little bit the one against Julia...

Also, Apache evolved and is one step closer to being a true Dragon Flying type Pokémon !

    873555b85c2743da9d1f354ae22b3230.png

A few things happen then. I get asked by Julia to meet her at some factory (I've seen more romantic for a date, and I know what I'm talking about, I'm french, baguette, paris, jeeu t'aimeeuh ma chéériee, omelette du fromage and stuff) to find the guys who tried to blow me up. Decent idea. Meeting Fern's sister Flobot and teaming with him to sweep around the place and slap a few Team Meteor grunts which seem to be the ones behind all this. Of course, I do not get screens of the fight against Aster & Eclipse because I am an idiot, which goes quite smoothly even though Fern got his ass served to him and is merely a decent dummy target. Anyway, we get the win, we blow the place as a payback, and Apache stops listening to me. Oh boy, I so so so fear Julia...

    0573b6e22734406bbc7dbc3967402ff7.png

Wanna blow me up, Team Meteor ? I blow YOU up !

    woobat.gifhoothoot.gifcharmeleon.gifVS helioptile.gifvoltorb.gifvoltorb.gifemolga.gifblitzle.gifelectrode.gif

Here we go, let's see how her team is in Hardcore and how my birdies (and the one lizardy no one noticed yet) can handle it and... She gets destroyed. Annihilated. I've always had trouble against Julia in each and every of my runs, except for this Hardcore one in which I couldn't tell the difference. Mirage starts against Helioptile and Heart Stamps it to death, making Julia use all of her potions. Unfortunately, a field charged critted Thundershock brings the bat's HP pretty low so Apache follows against Voltorb. I then hesitate to Dragon Rage her to death, and decide to do it. After all, this is an Hardcore run so I'd better use every single ace up my sleeve...

Apache doesn't disobey once and outspeeds and one shots every single one of them except Electrode which goes faster and tanks two hits. But heck. Easy as fuck.

At the end of the day, we have to move on to the Obsidia Ward because Florinia requests our help again. Also, I have a new badge and here's my team :

    b4332ec2500c44c0a8710cf90c6049fe.png

I also get some free monies that I will spend on grooming Mirage. I. WANT. IT. TO. LOVE. ME ! While the pokéhairdresser is trying to do something about this disgusting fur, I take a glance outside. It's still raining like the skies broke loose... Or the plants.

    beb3164cb66b4f2b997941466e9926b1.png

That's it for our first episode ! It's my first time doing this, so I guess it's pretty much full of flaws but I'll work on it. Expecting some juicy feedback ! Smell ya later !

  3. The thing about that is that it's an infinite source of money, shards, and of course experience, so Ame allowed Inuki to go full ham on his teams. She would never allow something so rewarding to be easy. :P

There's a similar mindset regarding the grand hall trainers, but they're probably a bit easier.

Plus it doubled as a way to include Pokemon that weren't seen in the Pokedex beforehand.

Exactly my point. Should have said some of his teams are way too easy instead, cause I did not mean to say Indra was hard, on the contrary and the goal of the post was maybe to improve bis worse teams regarding of the fact that the players teams are supposed to already be pretty strong at this point of the game, and farming some Dedenne with decent OU-Ubers doesn't seem as challenging as the rest of the game.
  4. Ame, I've noticed that between certain gym battles, the MC's pokemon are going to be underleveled unless they decide to return to the Grand Hall to grind. The wild pokemon give so little exp it's pointless to battle them, and there aren't many trainers that help solve this issue. This happens mostly on areas that people avoid or cannot access easily, like the Wasteland, Route2, Iolia Valley and the Mountain Trio. Especially post Agate, there's this issue that battling Clown Indra with your underleveled pokemon has a high rate of failure, but you can't do otherwise because the people you can battle outside the circus are very few. I think adding a pokemaniac here and there or an event that gives a lot of exp could help alleviate the hours some of us spend battling the rainbow battles.

In regards to the rainbow battles, they don't seem that balanced to each other. Yellow is by far the easiest one, since it has Dedenne, while Red has 3 pokemon viable for OU. Also, why not replace Simipour from the Blue team with something non-Water (since the other 2 mons are Water type) that's much more threatening?

A final question: Will we speak to Terra again?

Used the exp-share + lucky egg to level up my pokémons on Clown Indra and it really wasn't so long. Plus he gives a fair amount of pokéblingbling and shards. I agree tho that some of his teams are waaaaaay harder than others (added to the fact I think that the color sharing between the theme and the pokémons isn't that obvious).

+1 for TERR4. Iirc, there are hints in Bysbyxion Wasteland on some signs, she seems to still talk to us through the computer.

  5. That field seems awesome. Amazed you still can find creative ways to rip my poophole open, weirdest part being that we all seem to enjoy that and are already theorycraft how to play/counter it, haha !

Btw, am I the only one noticing the Technoblast up on this field ? Isn't it Genesect's signature move ? A part from the Jirachi in Anna's team, can we as well foresee the big metal bug in Titania's one ?

PS : Probably, okkie538. It is likely that the Razor Fang will be available in the Dept. Store, 9th floor and that we will get access to the sticker in E16+.

  6. Well since it's written as "E15 additions" and last edit was in 12/2015, are you sure about that ?

Edit for 5hift : I really dislike Thunder because it has only 5PP. Sucks if you have to do some long-ass even with 12 pokémon double battles and stuff like when Team Meteor attacked the estate in the mountain. Probably is better in strategy but since Reborn, as hard as it is, is still an adventure game I feel like having more PP is better. Could say it's a personal choice. I truly entrust my Heliolisk to take care of her targets only with her Thunderbolt, SPE ATT stat and the fact the move is super effective ^^

  7. As electrik types you also have Heliolisk. You can find one on the rooftop of a building in North Obsidia on sunny days. It's pretty good imo, better than Luxray who is slow af. Other good options might indeed be Electrike, Magnezone (Shade's gym, key found in the Bysbyx Bxyby Xybbybyy wasteland cave or Galvantula (found in North Aventurine Woods), as Vil told you. But beware, the Heracross/Pinsir event is tedious af ! o/

Best ice type imo would be Weavile. You can already get Sneasel in Ametrine mountain, and it's highly possible that we will be granted access to the 9th floor in the Dept Store to get the razor claw to get it evolved. And boy Weavile is beast. Decent option could also be Ice Beam/Ice Punch bred water type pokemon for the bulk. Azumarill could be nice with the Fairy double type and the fact this pokemon is a beast in itself. Also, we can find an Abomasite already. If we get the mega ring/bracelet/buttplug in E16, a mega Abomasnow could come in handy as well. For dragon types Flygon seems pretty decent. Kingdra as well.

If you need more intel, feel free to ask and gl in your team building !

  8. Thank you for your answers.

I indeed misread about Milotic's breeding. And since it's IV's where like horrible I ditched him from the team. Same for Rhyperior. IV's weren't really good, and his good physical bulk was not compensating for his horrible special bulk and double weakness to water/plant (and low ass speed). Figured out some replacements.

    Dundee (Feraligatr, Male)

    Adamant

    Sheer Force

    - Waterfall

    - Crunch

    - Dragon Dance

    - Ice Punch

Bred this one multiple times and got really decent IVs and movesets. Think he'll work pretty fine as my water type.

    Kamina (Flygon, Male, Shiny)

    Adamant

    Levitation

    - Earthquake

    - Dragon Claw

    - Iron Tail

    - Rock Slide

Still not sure about his moveset or nature (hesitating between Adamant and Jolly). With these guys I have 4 physical attackers and only 2 special so I was mb thinking on playing Flygon more as special but not so sure... So i'm letting it be physical for now since his ATT stat is way higher than his SPE ATT.

Decided to keep Honchkrow, his 300 ATT stat with the Suckerpunch stab and Moxie hit just way too hard. Plus I like him a lot, hehe. About Heliolisk I saw a trainer here with Hyper Voice on his on his trainer card but maybe it was from another game or the officials ones so I thought maybe I had miss a TM in the game. Apparently not, so he'll keep both Thunderbolt and Volt Switch. Also, here's for you Azodian : http://prntscr.com/c5ad27 (the Shiny Charm helps :P)

By the way what exactly is Misty Terrain ? Can't seem to find how it synergizes with my team ? I could consider it because Trick Room was just the ace up my sleeve to beat trainers with better pokemon which I really needed to outspeed. With this team I hope I won't need it, especially since a lot of them are really fast or have speed boosting moves. Sorry about this noobish question, I couldn't emulate X/Y or ORAS so Reborn is the first game where I handle Fairy types xD

Anyway thank you again a lot for your feedback and all your answers !

  9. Hey everyone ! I've been hovering around the forum for the past few days and noticed a lot of you guys have very different teams and since I've been questioning mine a lot, having some critics on it could be of great improvement not to get my ass served to me in episode 16 !

So, up to Ciel i had Blaziken, Heracross, Luxray, Gardevoir, Seismitoad and Meowstic. It was pure crap. I managed to win most of my hard fights thanks to my Speed Boost/Adamant/Shiny/Queen of England/King of the First Men and the Andals/He Who Brings Fury Blaziken that I reseted X times cause I had been told beforehand that this game was hard af. But god how cringe it was. This team was so bad with so many flaws. Finally managed to beat Ciel (which was countering my Overlord Blaziken and Moxie Heracross so hard) thanks to a Sturdy Stealth Rock Golem and a Destiny Bond Qwillfish paired with my Trick Room Gardevoir... And I decided I had enough with this shitty team. So I got myself my Exp. Share and farmed the hell out of Clown Indra in order to build a decent team. Here's what I have now (all of them are lvl 80) :

    Ignite (Blaziken, Shiny, Male)

    Adamant

    Speed Boost

    - Brave Bird

    - Fire Punch

    - Bulk Up

    - Hi Jump Kick

    Capone (Honchkrow, Shiny, Male)

    Adamant

    Moxie

    - Fly

    - Suckerpunch

    - Night Slash

    - Psych Up

    Nessy (Milotic, Male)

    Bold

    Marvel Scale

    - Surf

    - Waterfall

    - Recover

    - Hydro Pump

    Pinkie (Heliolisk, Female, Shiny)

    Timid

    Dry Skin

    - Surf

    - Thunder Bolt

    - Grass Knot

    - Volt Switch

    Pantzer (Rhyperior, Male)

    Adamant

    Rock Solid

    - Stone Edge

    - Earthquake

    - Poison Jab

    - Megahorn

    Lancelot (Gardevoir, Male)

    Modest

    Trace

    - Psychic

    - Moon Blast

    - Trick Room

    - Calm Mind

As for the items, I'm leveling up some Pick Up pokémon to get some Leftovers at least. Got also Black Sludge, Toxic Orb and one Life Orb. Don't know (if you can) where to find Choice Specs, Scarf, or multiple Life Orbs. So I've been giving them elemental Arceus plates thingies. They are not EV trained (thought it would be enough only to have good Natures and Move Sets), but have decent IVs and so stats (especially Capone which is a genetically enhanced monster) but I never ever did strategy in a pokémon game (I only know from watching some from streams). Only Pinkie is bred straight from the egg. I also have a Moxie Heracross and a Heracrossite, also level 80. So I had a few questions regarding this team, which I never really tested but in my mind :

    - Is it any good ? Got a pretty decent type coverage, I think, with pretty decent pokemons.

    - Blaziken is a god, the others are decent, but I quite don't like Rhyperior. Didn't have the luck to get an Excadrill from the Mystery Egg so which good Rock or Ground type could I use instead ? Was maybe thinking of Aggron but quite not sure. And I really don't feel like using Bunnelsby. Its horrible. Maybe just a solid other type with access to Stone Edge &/or Earthquake ?

    - I recently learned that Milotic could get both Scald and Ice Beam from breeding. Is that true ? If yes would it be really worth to breed another one from scratch for these two moves ? Or shall I better wait until we get decent TMs ? (Didn't think about it when I started leveling him up).

    - Been thinking about what to play in E16. Since we may have access to Mega Evolutions (only 4 stones are available right know if I read well on the forum), is there any you do plan to put in your team ? Never played X/Y nor ROSA so I don't really know if they are that much game breaking (and since I don't think I'll get a Blazikenite any sooner...). Are they ?

    - If we get to the 9th floor in the Dept. Store in E16 and get Evolutionary Items, which pokémon do you think would be good around the core of my team ? Was maybe thinking about Weavile if we can have a Razor Fang. I would then ditch Capone for a Gliscor or an Archeops and could then also ditch my Pantzer. Do you think it is a decent idea ? (Since my Capone can't learn Acrobatics !!%ù@!!# and I didn't bred him so he would have Brave Bird).

    - Also, last question, how could I get my Pinkie (Heliolisk) Hyper Voice ? Can't seem to find how.

Sorry for all the "noobish" questions and the approximative english and thanks by advance towards anyone reading this post and answering it !

    Have a nice day !

  10. ... 'Cause that's a clever thing to do, right ?

Hello everyone, my name is Jérémy aka Altha(h), I'm 21 yo and I live in France. Discovered Pokémon Reborn from a recent post on 9gag and decided to give it a shot since the reviews were pretty good and that I never had played a Pokémon fan game before (and now I regret doing this one first 'cause no other fan game stands a chance against this masterpiece =_=). I had a lot of trouble during my first run, but managed to clear it thanks to a strategic Trick Room team and cheap low-ass tricks (Sturdy Stealth Rock Explosion lvl 35 Golem, Destiny Bond Qwillfish, etc) because I kinda did bad team choices at several moments in the game. Well, steal beat Ciel so I guess I got that going for me, which is nice. I tried to do my first run without using this forum so I guess this is why I never introduced myself and had a little trouble completing the game. Well, now that I have rebuilt some decent team only farming this fucking repeatable clown in Agate Circus, I am now ready to come here !

What I liked about Reborn is what I seek in every video game I play : challenge. To my eyes, true beauty in a game stands in its ability to differentiate good and dedicated players from the average casual noob. Being a high ranking LoL player and doing HC Progress in WoW/Wildstar, I like when the game is tough and forces you to try several approaches to complete it. Reborn got me good a few times, and for this and the plot/ side characters which were awesome, thank you Amethyst and the rest of Reborn's development team.

More about me, huh ? I like maths and theorycrafting. Musical tastes vary from rap to electronic to metal depending on my mood. I'm also a huge martial arts fanboy, and am currently 2nd dan black belt in Shorin Ryu (an old Karate style). Favourite food is Pizza, favourite color is blue, favourites hobbies are series, manga, anime, sports and hanging out with friends with some booze/liquors and having a fun night (we used to watch football doing this but now we play Pokémon GO, heh, o tempora o mores).

... And that's pretty much it. I'm a friendly (a bit of an introvert) mofo that hopes deep down in my heart that I don't do any horrible english mistakes writing this post, so... Welcome me ?

    Also, Fern is a douche.
