  1. I did some more testing, and it seems that the damage rolls imply that Strength is treated as a 240 BP Rock move.

I have had Mega Ray getting OHKO-ed, and have it survive with 1, 9 and 21 HP left (so far), implying damage rolls of >=351, 350, 342, 330 HP respectively. This is consistent with a 240 BP Rock move:

(Calculations with Strength = 240 BP Rock move)

    Quote
    +1 252+ Atk Golisopod Strength vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Rayquaza-Mega in Strong Winds: 330-389 (94 - 110.8%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
    Possible damage amounts: (330, 334, 338, 342, 346, 350, 353, 357, 361, 365, 369, 373, 377, 381, 385, 389)

But this is even weirder than the game ignoring Delta Stream being in effect. It is true that Chess Attacks can be multiplied by x2 instead of x1.5, and this would result in an effective base power of 80 * 2 * 1.5 = 240. But according to the Field notes, Chess Attacks is multiplied by x2 against targets having the abilities Oblivious, Simple, Unaware, Klutz, or when the target is confused. Clearly none of these apply. I will test some more and see if I get the other possible damage rolls listed.

  2. Chess Attacks seem to be super effective against flying Pokemon, despite Delta Stream being active. I will make my case for this being true below.

EDIT: I have proven myself wrong on this -- see the two replies below (but I guess they'll only make sense after reading the first one). The problem is not Delta Stream not protecting against Chess Attacks, but that some Chess Attacks are being multiplied by x2 instead of x1.5. At least that's the most likely explanation at this point.

We will consider the move Strength. As we know, it is normally a physical Normal move with 80 Base Power, 100 Accuracy and no additional effects. It becomes a "Chess Attack" on the Chess Field, as shown in the below screenshot:

    Spoiler

    3.thumb.png.27314e27fba7f0d9dfa8ec94c3075f40.png

Note from the above screenshot that Chess Attacks also gain additional rock typing as well as a x1.5 boost in power.

Furthermore, Strength gains an additional x1.5 boost in power on top of this:

    Spoiler

    1.thumb.png.0af8e7a4e1aaaf694c7e1dbac0be1b54.png

Thus on the Chess Field, the move Strength is a physical dual Normal/Rock type move with 80 * 1.5 * 1.5 = 180 base power, without additional effects.

The argument rests on the following calculation, where I modified Strength to be a 180 BP physical Rock move:

    Quote

    +1 252+ Atk Golisopod Strength vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Rayquaza-Mega in Strong Winds: 248-292 (70.6 - 83.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

This situation can easily be replicated when challenging Bennett's "A game of Intellect" team in the Nightclub Theme Team. His Golisopod becomes a Bishop, hence the +1 Attack.

If you wonder why on earth I calc with 252 Def Rayquaza, the reason is that with the usual 252+ Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe Rayquaza, we get:

    Quote

    +1 252+ Atk Golisopod Strength vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Rayquaza-Mega in Strong Winds: 312-368 (88.8 - 104.8%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

So getting KO-ed doesn't say anything for sure unless we run Defense investment.

A screenshot of the former calculation is provided at the end, in case you want to double check that I inputted everything correctly regarding the changes to Strength (180 BP Rock). It is not possible to input dual typing moves on Showdown, but the normal type does not matter in this case anyway, as it is neither STAB nor ineffective / super effective.

In the screenshots below, I have sent out this (weirdly) invested 4+ Atk / 252 Def / 252 Spe Rayquaza. It becomes a Bishop, and I waste a turn without losing defense or Life Orb recoil by using Dragon Dance. The Golisopod proceeds to cleanly OHKO Mega Ray with Strength, without critical hitting:

Which by the above calculation should be impossible. I double checked that Golisopod does not hold an item that increases its power. In another battle I knocked off its item, and it was holding an Assault Vest. I did not screenshot that, but the PBS files verifies it:

Given the "It's super effective!" message, it's natural to suspect that Strong Winds simply does not negate Mega Ray's weakness against the move on this Field. If this is the case, the OHKO is explained (180 BP Rock, as usual):

    Quote

    +1 252+ Atk Golisopod Strength vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Rayquaza-Mega: 496-584 (141.3 - 166.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

However, I cannot find anything in the Field notes suggesting that this should be the case, nor anything else that could explain the OHKO. It's a complicated field, so I could've missed something, but I don't believe I have. I would love to be proven wrong, but until I am, I will assume that Strong Winds wrongly does not negate Flying's weakness against Chess Attacks' Rock typing.

As a final note, I have not tested whether Strong Winds fails to protect against (regular) Rock type attacks on the Chess Field, nor any other types super effective against flying. I have, however, verified that Delta Stream protects against regular Rock attacks on neutral Fields.

Addendum, screenshot of the first calculation:

  3. On a related note, the same happens with Amaria, only Singles and Doubles are "reversed" from Adrienn's case. That is, she fights in Singles in "Theme Team", but in Doubles in Boss Rush (Hard mode).

As with Adrienn, everything else seems to be the same. The field is Underwater Field in both battles, and the teams consist of the same Pokemon:

    Spoiler

    Greninja (lead Pokemon in singles)

Tapu Fini (leads together with Greninja in doubles)
    Keldeo

    Palkia
    Mega Swampert
    Primal Kyogre

  4. If you fight Adrienn's "Boss Rush 2" team from "Theme Team", it is a Doubles battle.

The same battle in the actual "Boss Rush" challenge (Hard mode) is a Singles battle.

Everything else seems to be the same. The field is Fairy tale Field in both battles, and the teams consist of the same Pokemon:

    Spoiler

    Alolan Ninetales (leads in singles)
Sylveon (leads together with Alolan Ninetales in doubles)
    Magearna
    Tapu Lele
    Mega Gardevoir

Seems to be fixed. But should Spectral Thief not steal stat boosts from Normals Types in Inverse Battles?  I've tried that during the Giratina fight and used it on its Meloetta and despite being sucessful, it didn't steal stat changes.

I agree. Spectral Thief is able to inflict damage in the situation you described, so it should be able to steal stat changes also.

  6. When battling Aya in the Boss Rush challenges, her field is Swamp Field in Normal Mode and Wasteland Field in Hard mode.

However, when choosing to challenge her in "Theme Team", the situation reverses -- the Field for the "Boss Rush" team is Wasteland Field whereas the Field for the "Boss Rush 2" team is Swamp Field.

    More succinctly:

    • Aya Boss Rush 1 from "Cassbot": gives Wasteland Field (opens with Nihilego)
    • Aya Boss Rush 1 from "Real Cassbot": gives Swamp Field (opens with Nihilego)

    • Aya Boss Rush 2 from "Cassbot": gives Swamp Field (opens with Scolipede)
    • Aya Boss Rush 2 from "Real Cassbot": gives Wasteland Field (opens with Scolipede)

Also, I noticed that on Noel's Holy Field in the Rush Challenge, if you create a Rainbow Field on top, the field reverts to the (neutral) "Nightclub Field" instead of the initial Holy Field when the rainbow disappears. If same is done against Elias in the Elite Four, the field reverts to the Holy Field instead of a neutral field.

Game version: 19.11 (Linux) without mods. The "noitems" and "easyhms" passwords are in use.

  7. Short description: Spectral Thief is able to steal positive stat changes from Normal type Pokemon.

How to reproduce: Use Spectral Thief against any Normal type Pokemon with positive stat changes. The positive boosts will be stolen despite the move failing in doing damage to the target. See screenshots under "Additional info".

Additional info: This can happen both when the player and the AI is in control of a Marshadow. Spectral Thief cannot steal stat changes when the target successfully uses Protect.

I was first introduced to this interaction in a "Mix'n Match" battle in the nightclub, where the following occurred (no field):

My teammate had a Speed Boost Blaziken that had used Bulk Up once and had two speed stat boosts, facing an enemy Marshadow. (The Marshadow had already tried once to steal the Bulk Up boosts and one speed boost, but failed in doing so due to Blaziken using Protect). Then my teammate Blaziken used Baton Pass, sending out Delcatty in its place. The enemy Marshadow used Spectral Thief attempting to steal the stat boosts. The Delcatty took no damage, but the stat boosts were nevertheless successfully stolen.

This prompted me to investigate further, and I was able to reproduce the situation when facing a wild Ditto. See the screenshots in the below spoiler:

I was initially reluctant to post this, as it was difficult to find details regarding how Spectral Thief actually works in edge cases. Does the stat stealing check work independently of the damage check? Bulbapedia was of limited use:

    Quote

Spectral Thief does damage. If successful, it also steals the target's positive stat stages (if any) right before doing damage. Spectral Thief bypasses substitutes.

Spectral Thief will steal all positive stat stages; even if the sum of the user's existing stat stages and the target's stat stages exceeds +6 in a stat, as long as the target's stat stages are positive, they will be reduced to 0. If the user has the Ability Simple, then the stolen stat stages will be doubled; if the user has the Ability Contrary, then the stat boosts will become stat drops when stolen.

"If successful" could refer to as being successfully executed, or as successfully inflicting damage. I was finally convinced to post this after some more searching, when I came across this test replay from the Balanced Hackmons format in Gen VII. Here Spectral Thief is unable to steal stat boosts from Normal type Pokemon. As far as I know, Pokemon Reborn uses Gen VII mechanics, so there is clearly a mismatch here.

  8. Short description: If Encore is used against a faster Pokemon (Slow Encore), the faster Pokemon's Encore ends 1 turn too early. Similarly, binding / trapping moves seem to end 1 turn too early, but on this I am not 100 % certain.

How to reproduce: Use Encore against any faster Pokemon. If we numerate the turn Encore is used as "Turn 1", notice that the Encore of the opposing Pokemon ends after Turn 3 is over. Thus the faster Pokemon has not been made to use its last move three additional times, only two.

Additional info: Fast Encore works correctly. I also suspect there is something similar going on with the timer for Whirlpool, Infestation, etc. I have a Shuckle knowing both Encore and Infestation, and when using Infestation, the message "<Target> is hurt by Infestation!" only occurs 3-4 times in total. Given the Bulbapedia description of Infestation,

    Quote

Infestation inflicts 1/8 of the target's maximum HP as damage per turn for four to five turns upon use, in addition to the damage dealt when it is used. It also traps the target, preventing switching and escape.

I believe that in general, such trapping moves end 1 turn too early as well.

Game version: 19.08 (Linux) without mods. The only passwords in use are "noitems" and "easyhms", but those should have no bearing on these issues.
