  1. Well, um... Writing kind of comes naturally to me. I usually don't have to think much about how my characters will develop. It just kind of happens, but I think I know another trick that can help. Hopefully it's an easy trick...

First, choose a gender. Then, choose a character trait. (You can even use a nature of a Pokemon if you're really stuck.)

Let's say you choose an unusually quiet girl. Why is she quiet? Well, let's say that her mother died when she was young enough to be in grade school in a way where it traumatized her. Ever since, her father doesn't talk to her much in fear that he'll get too attached to his daughter before he loses her as well. Her favorite Pokemon is Cubone, and she wants to raise all of the Cubones in the world so they wouldn't be lonely anymore.

I'll probably use that idea in the future, actually...

...Or we can choose a simpler one. Let's say, a boy who's hesitant of everything because his parents warned him about the world, and the Internet. Let's say that he's from Cerulean City. He barely trusts anybody who he doesn't get to know pretty well, which is why his dad had to give him his first Pokemon. He stayed at home for a while to train until he felt confident enough to leave, but not without taking a few self-defense items with him, just in case.

And then eventually you can get to the development part. He never trusted trusted anybody, and only gave people younger and more innocent than him a chance, until he broke his leg in Mount Moon on his way to Pewter city where he would get his first badge. That's where he met Brock, a teenager who's almost legally a man. Brock helps him get through the rest of the cave by using his Onix (becausewhynot) and into a hospital. In the hospital, the character was forced to trust the nurses and doctors if he wanted to get better, and that one encounter with Brock in Mount Moon helped him open up to people.

...Well, like I said, it comes naturally for me. In fact, I was about to add a whole 'nother section to the second example about how he meets a mute girl with burns in the hospital... Basically it would, once again, turn complicated.

    So I really hope that this trick helps you out, because I have no idea if this is even a good trick or not. ^^;;

Also, if you need help choosing a trait, I'm sure there's a few character generators that you can use.

  2. So, I just re-downloaded the game and started a new file and the screen didn't freeze at the scene I mentioned before. Something weird must have just somehow happened on my previous file.

I haven't heard of Dangan Ronpa before playing this game (I have seen that bear; I just didn't know where it was from) but I really like the game so far. I think it's cool that you have the ability to interact with anyone you want and gain neat insight into them, and I also love the music like I mentioned before. The faces added more emotions and context into the game too.

Well, I'm glad that it's working now. ^^; And I'm really glad that people seem to be liking it so far!

...I probably should've chosen a different kind of game to make though. I have the entire story for the next chapter in mind, but when I have to look things up for reference...

  3. Lol just found out about this the same day I found out that Danganronpa was getting a dub

    REVIEW TIME:

overall I was entertained by it and personally love the danganronpa series. For a 1st episode release it was fairly well done but could improve on in some aspects. Let us talk about what was well done first. I think the thing that made the characters stand out in my opinion were the faces that you saw when you were speaking to them. Most of the custom sprites were just okay-good but the faces were really well done in my opinion. With time and practice, I'm sure you will be able to clean up the overworld sprites. But let me say you did a very good job. Now lets go on to the things that you could improve on. I think that overall the trial was really short and basic. Which for a 1st trial/starting trial could be just fine. But if the next trial is as simple as this one the game will get very boring very fast. I would strongly suggest researching mystery murder cases in order to get ideas for the next trial. I think primarily this isn't a "pokemon" game, you could essentially get through the entire game without battling. Therefore the murder/mystery/crime solving is what is going to make or break this game. There could be plot elements that would force a battle to occur but that would be completely up to you and how to take care of that. I would definitely like to see the pokemon themselves be apart of the murders in future trials. For example you could have something like a pelipper used shock wave to kill the target in order to frame the electric type trainer. I don't remember exactly which trainer has which pokemon so that is something you might want to research to see if you could do anything like that or have abilities come into play who knows what you will be able to do :). Really am looking forward to the next episode.

Well, it's about time that the Dangan Ronpa anime gets a dub... Siiince all three finished games has dubs.

I wasn't even thinking about using a Pokemon for PUNISHMENT TIIIIIME! Then again, I'm not sure what I'm going to have as my next punishment yet. Hm...

I plan on remaking all of the sprites eventually. I just had to whip some things up really quickly once I got the script for the first chapter done.

And I KNEW the added faces was a good idea! Partially because I was getting bored when I was testing out the game and talking to the people.

I'm really glad that you're enjoying it so far, since this is my first game I made and I was kind of nervous about posting it.

  4. Is there anything to do after getting your Pokemon, or is that the end of the demo? The bear says to look around, but I can't leave the room and interacting with the people doesn't lead to anything.

I really love the music, btw ^_^

EDIT: Nevermind, I started a new file and everything was fine. I just had a weird glitch earlier where the Poke Balls and bear disappeared, so I missed some dialogue and the "Should I take it?" question when at the Poke Balls.

EDIT2: Found another glitch: Kokoro and Miki give an error message when trying to battle them. Also,

when you solve the crime and it cuts to the person who did it, it freezes at the scene where it shows them in a room. Specifically, it freezes when they're in front of the top block.

I fixed the first two. I guess I worked a little too long into the night and classified the "Bug Trainer Miki" as "Miki Miki." XD I just had to change one little thing for Kokoro.

    As for the other thing,

When I checked, it worked just fine for me. There IS a point where "the blackened" gives up and just waits for the blocks, so maybe it just seems like it's frozen? It takes a few second for each block to appear. I think I made the one that would crush the blackened take slightly longer than the others... Also I never seem to get the idea of just replacing the blackened's sprite with a block until just now.

I updated the first post with the game fixes! For the post chapter one though, there's not really anything different that you can do. The things I put around the places are Easter eggs from Chunsoft games by checking one of the bookcases and the video game systems themselves.

  5. Reborn and a lot of other fangames here have a level cap where Pokemon disobey you after going past that level. What determines the level cap is the number of badges you have. Aegis made it to where your Pokemon don't gain experience at all once they hit the level cap, though, so your Pokemon shouldn't have leveled past the cap.

I have the Level 35 badge, but I wasn't sure if they were supposed to disobey me after 25 or not. I dunno if it's a bug, or if it was intentional?

  6. you might change the text colour to the automatic one on the forums. it is black in typing but it shows as white in the aftermath. Just makes easier to read. On topic, as a player of the danganronpa series, I am interested. Just asking for purposes of curiousity, is there blood like in the actual games? EDIT: Just reread the op so nvm.

    Err... It looks grey to me. ^^;

And I intend on having RED blood. XD

Edit: Why does this message look white now?!

  7. Up to Chapter 5!

I forgot to change the stupid intro picture, AGAIN!

    tumblr_inline_nvrndaMb8U1rtzl03_540.png

Fun Fact: Dangan Ronpa was originally going to be called “Distrust.”

It’s not really a crossover, but the plot’s the same as the first two games… Well, more the first than the second… Anyway~

I was trying to think of idea for a Pokemon game… Whiiile playing Dangan Ronpa: Despair Girls. I Googled “Pokemon/Dangan Ronpa game” and got nothing. I thought that was blasphemes and I decided to create one instead.

Of course the first chapter is just a warm up chapter, but it doesn’t mean that I didn’t spent a whole lot of time into it. So I'm probably going to update this one chapter at a time.

    The Plot

The plot of Pokemon Distrust is uh… Pretty much the same as Dangan Ronpa. Teenage students, all were selected to attend a “special” school for raising a certain type of Pokemon, and basically being a “prodigy” at it.

And then there’s you. You were picked for reasons unknown. Perhaps you won the lottery among all of the teenagers ages 15-17 in Japan. Maybe you’re special and you just don’t know it. Who knows?

There’s a problem with this school though. Everybody’s trapped inside of it with no way to contact the outside world. They had their Pokemon taken away and they have to start fresh with a new one of their type. The only way out, is to murder somebody and get away with it.

TL;DR Summary: You're suck in a school, and the only way out is to kill somebody and get away with it.

So it’s a murder mystery/detective game… Kind of like Dangan Ronpa, but with Pokemon sprinkled in it… The first chapter’s pretty short, but it’ll get a bit longer as I go, and a lot more interesting I’m sure. And I’ll try to add more to the battling part of it… The official games aren’t that long, so how am I supposed to make them any longer?!

I am planning on making the game at least two hours long, which is the average free RPG Maker game.

    Features

There’s two different versions of it- one that’s censored, and one that’s not. Of course I plan on drawing (or at least doing my best at it) some of the things where I just put a sprite over it instead, to make things more dramatic, but I don’t want to waste hours of my time on something that nobody’s going to be paying attention to. Maybe some other time.

Gen 5 Pokemon sprites, but Gen 3 overworld and trainer sprites (for now.)

Something that's not your typical Pokemon game. (But maybe your typical Dangan Ronpa game.)

Avatar faces by FoxRichards' FaceMaker! (Deviantart.) I thought that without them, the characters seemed a bit dull.

    Triple Triad! =D

    Voltorb Flip! =D

Dangan Ronpa and Persona music... Sooo when I was playing through the Dangan Ronpa series, I liked the music, but the music that plays while you're just walking around the school/islands/island got really dull, but the Persona music didn't do that to me, so...

Dating! =D But not an actual relationship thing. Not yet. Eventually, yes, but not right now.

    DESPAIR

Progress Thus Far On Chapter 5

    I did a little bit...

Fallout 4 is still taking over my life, okay?

    Known Glitches

Sometimes during free time, if you go into the kitchen, it will transfer you back into your room. I have no idea why this is, and I'm sorry if it happens to you.

    Chapter 2 glitches

In Naomi's bathroom, there'll be wild Pokemon. I know that it's annoying. I'm sorry.

I don't know why, but the picture that appears during the second motivation looks weird. Sorry.

For some reason, the Free Time event for this chapter doesn't work until you go around the little pond. If it happens to you, just go around the pond. At least until I finally figure out why it happens.

Trying to get something from the left cart of the mart will crash your game. I'm just going to have to change the item because, eeeeven though it worked for me before, it's not working for me now.

Of course the characters aren't fully flesh out yet, but:

Characters (I recommend that you don't look at these yet)

    tumblr_inline_nv8cuobiNL1rtzl03_100.png

Shiori/Player (17) (I seem to like making the player characters look like genderbented versions of each other) was selected for who knows why? They’re an average trainer at best, with a different range of types of Pokemon in their team. Though they love each and every one of them, and they would do *almost* anything to get them back.

Of course, I don’t care if you want to replace this sprite with your own. I think the games are a lot more fun when you’re playing as your own persona.

tumblr_inline_nv915n46s11rtzl03_75sq.pngVangelis (16) was selected for being a professional at training flying types. He’s unusually calm most of the time, but everybody has a end point. He’ll snap at anyone if he gets too stressed out. The way he sees it, he has to keep calm and think about the situation he’s stuck in. To start doing just that, he searches the entire school for anything that could be helpful to him in the future.

    tumblr_inline_nv91kwmEtW1rtzl03_75sq.png

Miki (15) was raised to be a proper young lady. She was selected for her ability to raise bugs at a young age. She doesn’t really know the meaning of “fun,” and is afraid to do anything unladylike that would upset her parents and peers.

    tumblr_inline_nv91reilta1rtzl03_75sq.png

Tamiko (16) is a girl who always think of others, both human and Pokemon, before she thinks of herself. She was selected for her ability to raise steel types to their full extent. She doesn’t let much get to her, but when she’s mad, she’ll get mad enough to be violent about it.

    tumblr_inline_nv923aROHz1rtzl03_75sq.png

Yuuka (16) loves finding out how to make her Pokemon stronger than ever before. She was selected because she was especially able to raise ground types to be nearly unbeatable. She can be slightly energetic at times, which makes her easy to approach.

    tumblr_inline_nv929zx9Vi1rtzl03_75sq.png

Daiki (17) was born and raised in the always-growing city. One time he was taken to a farm on a field trip and he absolutely fell in love with the nature that’s been taken away from him before he was even born by the city growing more and more artificial. Since that day on, he wanted to raise grass types. He was a straight A student in Pokemon academies through elementary and middle school, before he was chosen to be the grass type trainer of Accourt Academy.

    tumblr_inline_nv9ecc1HtR1rtzl03_75sq.png

Kokoro (16) is a bubbly, cheerful girl. She was selected for her ability to raise ice Pokemon. She tends to find the good things in horrible situations, but everybody has a breaking point. She has a great passion for cooking, especially for other people.

    tumblr_inline_nv9enswksq1rtzl03_75sq.png

Katashi (16) is a short-tempered, violent boy. His pretty body made a lot of people confuse him for a girl, which he hates. Born and raised in a bad neighborhood, he was able to gather up the money for a few sessions at a Dojo. Because of that, he was able to connect with fighting Pokemon.

    tumblr_inline_nv9ewkM56M1rtzl03_75sq.png

Yori (17) is a quiet, mysterious boy. Though maybe that’s only because of the situation he was forced in. His father died in a car accident, but he claims to be able to talk to his ghost whenever Yori visits his dad’s grave. Because of that, he has a special connection with ghost Pokemon.

    tumblr_inline_nv9f5hTsEV1rtzl03_75sq.png

Miyako (16) at first glance is a fairly angry girl, but the reasons are probably related to the situation she’s in. When she’s pushed to a corner, she can’t calm down. Selected for her ability to tame poison type Pokemon. Her parents would try their best to make her happy, no matter what, and she appreciates and loves them more than anything for that.

    tumblr_inline_nv9m76Y4kt1rtzl03_75sq.png

Naomi (17) loves the water, but more than that, she loves water Pokemon. She loves staring at them and feeling a little envious when she sees one swimming away so quickly nobody would be able to catch it. She may have a history of abuse.

    tumblr_inline_nvmu1lbP2X1rtzl03_75sq.png

Ayame (16) has rich parents, which means that she always have people after her hand in marriage. She have been selected for her ability to raise dark type Pokemon. Her smiling face makes people want to approach her automatically, rather she wants them to approach her or not.

    tumblr_inline_nvqelrxTTs1rtzl03_75sq.png

Setsuko (17) was selected for her ability to raise rock type Pokemon. She loves her family, Pokemon, and friends to death, though she’s not sure if she can actually kill to see them again. She can be curious at times, but she’s mostly on guard when she needs to be.

    tumblr_inline_nvqezkKSej1rtzl03_75sq.png

Haruki (17) has been raising fire Pokemon ever since he could get his training license. At first he just chose to make fire Pokemon his primary type for warmth in the cold, harsh winter that will roll around in his town for half of the year, and to toast food when desperate, but he grown to love them.

    tumblr_inline_nvqfjaNK2O1rtzl03_75sq.png

Masaru (16) has been selected to tame dragon type Pokemon to perfection. He can be sarcastic to make light of serious situations, just to stay sane. He tries to stay calm in bad situations, knowing that freaking out won’t do him any good, and could possibly get him killed.

    tumblr_inline_nvqfuaARmp1rtzl03_75sq.png

Kane (17) loves electronics and knowing how they work, and loves knowing how electric type Pokemon works even more. He wanted to build machines to maybe someday help create a world where nobody has to work, because machines will do everything for them. (As unrealistic that idea is.) He also has a thing for video games- both playing, and making.

    tumblr_inline_nvqjtvOx5u1rtzl03_75sq.png

Takis (16) has a special connection to psychic Pokemon. His parents didn’t seem to care much about him, so he had to turn to psychic types. For reasons unknown to him, psychic Pokemon have always been attracted to him. He usually won’t socialize until somebody talks to him first, and that’s partially due to his parent’s neglect. He gets distracted kind of easily.

    tumblr_inline_nvqo2u6f2n1rtzl03_100.png

Monoursa (???) is a robot in the shape of a Teddiursa, and NOT AT ALL a parody of a very popular character. *Shifty eyes* Nobody knows who’s behind it. All that is known is that the one behind this thing uses these robots to see everything at every angle, and to make sure students are “punished” properly for breaking any rules without having to actually show their self.

    On hind sight, I should’ve kept a normal size sprite around. ^^;

    Downloads! (Up to Chapter 5):

    Uncensored version-

Uncensored version has pictures with blood on it... I mean, the pictures depicts blood. If I ever decide to do any nudity, it would be censored despite what version you choose to download. (Well, maybe not on Tumblr.)

    Censored version-

    Kind of spoiler?

The picture of the deaths of chapter five were beautifully shaded and highlighted and everything. I spent all day working on them. So of course my laptop had to destroy them! Which is why the pictures of chapter five are so crappy.

The music is by two very talented composers- Masafumi Takada (Dangan Ronpa 1 and 2 OST) and Shoji Meguro. (Persona 3 and Persona 4 OST) For some reason I kind of felt like the OST for Dangan Ronpa and Persona sounded similar, so I wanted to add Persona’s OST. That’ll probably change to just Dangan Ronpa music by the end of me making the game.

I used FoxRichards’ “FaceMaker” for the avatars, which I automatically got permission for (check the description)- http://foxrichards.deviantart.com/art/FaceMaker-52755515

I used this to make the title, by Kirbynator- https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/892838/

I used Pokemon Essentials, as well as RPG XP (THAT I FORGOT TO CREDIT OH GOD I’M SORRY!)

And of course, Satoshi Tajiri and all of Gamefreak.
